LIVE WORK HOUSE EVAN BAKER


The importance of this live/work building was using my garage space as a way to separate the program of the building. When clients come to visit they are able to enter into the workspace without having to go through the living space that is oriented towards the back of the site. There is also an outdoor space in the back of the house with a screen for vegetation to grow on. The vegetation will be present in the summer to provide shade and absent in the winter to provide sunlight through the back windows.

In conclusion, I decided to keep all of my design elements from the matrix except for the roof type. I got flat roof for my first iteration which caused problems because it is expensive and it is makes it more difficult to manage water with a flat roof. I decided to change to a shed roof which is one of the cheapest options and easier to water off of the roof. With this change I was able to have more money in my budget and able to add more glazing to allow sunlight to the interior of the building. The shed roof also allowed me to create a wrapping element along the exterior of my house and separate the living space and work space on the west elevation.
