MONARCH MASSING
This design focuses on utilizing the asymmetrical Butterfly Roof to establish a hierarchy of spaces within the home. The front and rear facades are slanted inwards to create a 90° angle with the roof. This allows for a Private Attitude towards the Street, as the house is literally pulling away from passersby. The Masonry Fireplace is anchored in the center of the house, emphasizing the hierarchy of public and private spaces. Additionally, the Fireplace is an anchor for the roof structure, tying the constraints together programmatically and structurally. Super Insulated walls generate a thick poche that is punctured by window boxes on the slanted facades, creating pockets of valuable space.

The bright and airy window boxes create unique, flexible spaces that can be utilized for storage or seating, while bringing light into the house. These boxes contrast the heavy, robust feeling the mass of the home brings. The interior offers a variety of flexible spaces while remaining fixated around the Fireplace. The light feeling of these spaces also contrast the substantial mass of the Fireplace, playing off the contrast happening with the exterior.
