The Grain Within Grid Andre Cifuentes Lyceum 2020: Belt Tightening - Bungalows for the Millennial Family Faculty Advisor: Terry Boling Through the passage. A Thin line stretched, stretched, thinner, thinner. Drifting in hill and bark. Chiseled bark. Chiseled earth. Chiseled Chicago rolling in and up and then down again. Columns of bark, peeled back, a dense pattern inhales new life from within. Dense, defying, determined. Together, punching through dirt and stone. Toes clinched in deep earth. Reaching out, fingertips touching. Endure. Clay and stone, fragmented. Shattered by springing life. There sits a woman... resting...resting. Child by her head, hoisting up and up, over and over. “Stay near!” Above stands a man. Peering overboard, over canopy and asphalt. Humming?... Down the street! A violinist sways in Chicago’s palm. For all to hear, for all to witness. The city watches. From railings. From raised earth. From broken grid underfoot. From across passage. Passage... from behind glass shields. Pacman of the grid. Will you recognize fruit when you see it? Will you hear us? We all hear. We all see. That, you should know.
