Reassembly Helena Ma Lyceum 2020: Belt Tightening - Bungalows for the Millennial Family Faculty Advisor: Terry Boling On the project site, 38 percent of people still live with extended family in current. But these houses were built for single nuclear family. And over the past half century, the share of people living alone in America has doubled. This concludes that single-family house for nuclear-family is no long sustainble and affordable for the Chicago working class In the future of entering temporary workforce and uncertainty, my solution is Reassembly - a prefab cooperative that helps residents live a fuller, more connected lives with a tight knit community. Reassembly cooperative can be converted and resassesembled so that units’ materials can be taken apart and rebuild, enabling reusing building materials and fast construction as everything is prepared. This reduces the energy and greenhouse gas emissions associated with production, and transportation of new materials. The modular framing will be t-slot, which can provide a flexible and convertible spaces for any size and needs. Any units such as rooms and core stairecase can be modularized by using a 6x 6 T-slot. In nearby, a vacant warehouse situated nearby will be converted into a modular construction factory that does prefab components for this community and beyond. The goal is to create new, innovative construction jobs and attract these new workers on this site. So that residents can not only live here, but are also behind the workforce of building their house and the community, gaining capitals and trust, which are the most important things for a healthy and thriving community. In Assembly, owned by the cooperative, the alley is activited into a place instead of a street. Since everyone owns a membership to its cooperation, allowing them possession of individual units and lower down the mortgage rates and downpayment. As a result, residents will receive ownerships at low cost, get to know their neighbors, have a voice in electing the board of their community, and they will develop a healthy interdependent and cooperative community.
The facing orientation is flipped horizontally so each house is facing the alley, which is owned by the cooperative
Crane robot is also anchored into the slot of T-slot, so they can slide in xyz axis to help putting in new materials such as putting in new windows, walls. and fastening the T-slot bar
Drop-in T-Nut The T-nut will be dropped into slot of T-slots. The other t-slot can slide in one directions to the desired place. The steel plate and screws are placed on top of the T-nut and the T-slot is fastened tight with a T-handle. This solid connection is tight, yet allow for modularity
