CASE STUDY BRIEF Everyone went through a strong turning point two years ago. The Covid pandemic is one of the biggest crisis since the Second World War. Suddenly, the boundless mobility that was the ideal in the globalized open world came to a standstill. Perhaps globetrotters felt homesick for the first time when it was uncertain whether or when a journey home or onward would be possible? With this uncertainty came the change. It seemed as if many became aware of their homeland for the first time and developed a stronger bond with it. An opportunity? The phrase "We're staying home" became the hashtag of the pandemic. Now everyone had to choose their location - the place they were currently staying, or the one they wanted to return to - their home. It was no longer the place where we enjoyed our after work time and met with our loved ones. It was everything. Work, school, recreation - everything took place within our own four walls. Is our home designed for that, or have we reached a point where we know something has to change? We need more than familiar solutions and a good design. But don't we all instinctively know that this time could be the impulse and catalyst for something new? Questions need to be answered that focus on things like whether housing as we know it still makes sense and do we still need the old methods? Do we still believe in the typical patterns of a family or are there new forms of living together? We should also integrate the ideas of sustainability, availability of materials and accessibility for everyone. The idea is not to create a solution for a specific group, but for all - people and environment.

and in addition to a classic office area, a flexible work area, a space for a studio, a workshop and an area for meetings. In the added module on top is only a living space VECTORWORKS EDUCATIONAL VERSION for a couple. The facade offers great flexibility. It can be completely closed or opened and act in different positions more like a screen. This allows the residents to decide how much light they want inside and how much relation they need to the outside. The idea of the interior is based on a core that stores all the fixed functions, like bathrooms, storage, wardrobe and the kitchen. The surrounding spaces are a flexible open space. They are all open but can be separated from each other if necessary. The material has a meaning of old and new. Everything that already was there before is mainly concrete and perforated metal. All new parts show up in wood and glas combination.

neighbourhood 3-4 story buildings

The design for a Post-Covid Case House focuses on a piece of land close to downtown. That site has an abandoned building on it, is approx. 0.7 miles from Cincinnatis Central Business District away and located in Mt Adams. The idea was to use that vacant concrete building and add a living module on top. That addition on top is a chance to avoid seal and condense the city even more and answer the sustainable question, at least a little. The volume of the building was processed during the process. It was opened, expanded and ultimately increased by an additional floor. All changes and additions were designed along a grid, that is layered horizontal and vertical over the building. To create more space and using the room height, split levels were integrated. Spaces for different work situations have been created on the floors VECTORWORKS EDUCATIONAL VERSION
