French sociologist, philosopher, and cultural theorist Jean Baudrillard warned that simulation would soon “replace the real”... Is this slowly becoming true?
Well, thanks to the entrepreneurial leadership of Paul Allen, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Steve Wozniak and the creation of the computing industry, there have been profound changes in both the business and personal lives of people all over the world. Especially architects and designers. Computers are becoming faster and stronger, and many people believe that the rapid advancements in computer technology over the last 30 years have “breathed new life into the world of Architecture”. What is certain, is that the digital age is here and it is being used by architects, designers, and 3D artists to build better, more efficient, more visually stunning buildings.
Why do people use 3D rendering and architectural visualization?
Architecture and the design of the urban environment involve a multitude of stakeholders: engineers, architects, planners, and non-specialists. All of these view the process from different perspectives, with different objectives, needs, and wants in mind. This obviously has many challenges, however, for any architectural project to be a success it requires a “shared understanding” to be reached between all of the parties involved... Luckily 3D rendering and architectural visualization techniques can help with this.
Using powerful 3D rendering software architects, designers, and 3D artists can manipulate designs in real-time, quickly transitioning between concept and concrete and exploring different options, as well as, making refinements and creating multiple versions of the designs. SketchUp, Rhino, VRay, Maxwell, Mental Ray, and AutoCAD are just a few of the powerful 3D modeling and rendering software, empowering design and dazzle clients today

The “3D Visualization” Process
3D Visualization or 3D visualization is defined as “any technique for creating images or animations to communicate a message”. So it is not a surprise that 3D visualization through visual imagery has been an effective way to communicate ideas since the dawn of man, from cave paintings and Egyptian hieroglyphs to Leonardo da Vinci's technical drawings for engineering warcraft machines. What is surprising though, is the speed at which the advancements in 3D modeling and 3D rendering technology are happening and how this is affecting the buildings we build and live in.
Architectural rendering or architectural visualization is the art of creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional images showing the attributes of a proposed architectural design. This technology is changing the way we design, in a way that simply wasn’t possible 15 years ago. 3D rendering and architectural visualization software enable architects and designers to evaluate “proportions” and “scales” using intuitive interactive 3D modeling and simulate the effects of lighting, ventilation, and acoustics in internal environments.
3D artists today are getting so good at their craft that they are able to produce realistic 3D renderings of buildings, giving clients an accurate 3D visualization of the proposed design. These proposed architectural visualizations can represent anything the client desires from the scale, textures, interior furnishings, etc., and are often represented together with “architectural scenes” where everyday actions are being carried out. This is probably something a number of overworked architects and designers can relate to, however, his accomplishments are a remarkable milestone not only in the technical evolution of drawing but also as representations of the architectural scene. In many of his sketches, he captured a diverse range of activities and people, which populated the scenes and spaces he represented – just like we would today in our 3D architectural visualizations for new developments.
Furthermore, by giving architects and designers the tools to visualize and immerse themselves in their designs, they are able to gain a much clearer understanding of both the “qualitative and quantitative nature” of the spaces they are designing.
So in summary 3D rendering and architectural visualization can help architects and designers work collaboratively and communicate ideas more efficiently. 3D visualization can be used as a marketing tool with clients or for planning consultations with planners, and at the same time can be used to improve the way buildings are developed by design teams. So why isn't everyone using them?
So are 3D rendering and architectural visualization the future?
In all designs, whether it be architectural or not, the process of “visualization” does not stop. What I mean by this is that visualization is not an end in itself.
The process of design and visualization should be iterative, where design alterations are made as a result of insights gained through visualization… leading into the next version of the design. So are 3D rendering and architectural visualization the future? Well to answer this question we asked architects and designers on LinkedIn whether they thought “3D rendering and architectural visualization was the future of architectural design” and here are some of the comments we received:
“It's not the future, it's the present.”
“I think the digital age has brought more tools to the table, so to speak. Architects have been drawing and building models for ages.... we still do, but now we are able to use computers to draw and make 3D models (even print 3D models). That being said I fear that more traditional skills are being lost and care should be taken to keep those skills sharp. Tablet drawings are great but nothing says lunch meeting like a 'napkin sketch'”
“3D visualization and video is the new way to go in terms of architectural presentations. Our Clients are requesting this service and we are happy to provide them.”

Lighting Design. The Law Of Attraction.
Lighting design is partly a mathematical process and partly a series of assumptions based on the needs of the user. Taking a priceless piece of ART for example and transforming it so the client sees it in a different way, is a result of a tremendous amount of work and research, where the lighting scenario will allow the artwork to take center stage.
COLOR RENDERING INDEX.
Choosing lights for your project can be quite technical. Whether you are building an apartment, a new home, a restaurant, a hotel, any kind of commercial business, or an art gallery, it is important to understand the different aspects there are to lights such as the Color Rendering Index, and why it’s so important to achieving your goal in your project.
With the advances in LED technology, there are many LED light sources on the market that could potentially light Your project. But, before splashing out your cash, you need to find out not only that the LED you have in mind is bright enough and has an appropriate optical performance but, more importantly, the color performance of the LED
What is color temperature CCT ( Correlated Color Temperature ) and does it have a high CRI rating of Ra 90+ (color rendering index)?
If the LED on offer has a CRI of between 85 and 90 it can be described as having ‘good color rendering’.90 and above is ‘excellent color rendering’ and that is where you need to be to get your artwork to look at its best 100 is the PERFECT scenario.
For some lighting design can be an afterthought or just simply misunderstood. If you are opening a restaurant, for example, you might want dim lighting which might work great for your space but it might also create a different environment from what you intended. Or, if you are an artist and are hanging your work in a gallery, the lighting will affect the way your painting is seen by customers and visitors. These risks can easily be solved by understanding CRI-here are some key things to know. CRI essentially refers to how different types of illumination, or light, affect the color of objects as they are perceived when the light hits them. The index allows lighting manufacturers to create different lights with CRIs that are best for different situations, i.e. a restaurant and an art gallery. To do this, they manufacture lights on a scale of 1100:
High-pressure sodium light sources have a CRI of 24 Mercury vapor light sources have a CRI of around 49 Fluorescent light sources have a CRI range between 50 and 85 depending on the phosphate coating of the bulb Metal halide light sources have a CRI range between 75 and 95
Poor quality LEDs the majority of what the market is using have a CRI range between 55-75
High-quality LEDs have a broad range of CRI up to 95 What do those CRI measurements mean? Simply put, the lower the CRI, the less accurate the true colors will be depicted. Therefore, if you are shining a light on a table where your food will be placed, you’d want a higher level CRI. The same goes for a piece of art, a mosaic installation, or a Corian sculpture if the light shining on your object or photo has a low CRI, the colors that you used or captured are not going to appear as you intended. The closer the CRI rating is to 100, the more the colors will appear as they would in perfect natural, true lighting.
LIGHT REFLECTANCE LOSS
You also have to be aware that the final lighting result will be influenced by different reflectance levels and the light loss the interior objects will cause after their installation in an interior space. Lighting design by the majority of specialists is a procedure that ends when the lighting installation is over. WRONG!!
All the interior objects absorb light. It is then that we really have to do new calculations and lighting adjustments. There are cases where the lighting designer is also an architectural interior designer as it is in my case. So we have calculated the color of the interior surfaces during our interior design study and when we are working with our lighting concept-scenario we use those results in our lighting study, therefore we are not dealing with major changes until the end of the project. But it is really rare to find an architectural interior designer who is also a lighting designer. What you have to keep in mind is that the lighting calculations should be continued until the last interior object is installed. Lighting design is the most powerful MARKETING asset in any type of commercial, hospitality, residential, or art exhibition project you might have. The revenue the right lighting scenario can cause is immense. I dedicated all my life to studying architecture and interior design. It took me forever to study lighting design. What I still don’t understand is why people are hiring the most qualified architects and interior designers and why they pay for luxurious interior design materials, ( expensive marble, mosaic, leathers, Corian, Swarovski, artwork etc.) if they are not planning on hiring a lighting designer to make sure that all those luxurious visual ” stimulations ” would be perceived in their eyes and the eyes of their customers, they way they should? So it became my passion. My addiction. To educate my clients and to illuminate correctly their businesses. I turned out to be a great Marketing asset and a powerful weapon in what they are trying to accomplish. Success in every possible way.
While restaurants, ice cream parlors, cafes, and every other establishment in the F&B industry compete with each other using location, prices, and promotions, very few take the win from the margin of their interior design. Most people do not know this, but the restaurant interior design impacts customer psychology prompts them to order more or less, and even impacts the duration of their stay in the restaurant. Seating options, light, music, and architecture, all constitute a restaurant’s interior design. Here is a guide on how you can influence your customer’s psychology using interior design in restaurants and some brilliant restaurant interior ideas that you can use at your outlet.
Importance Of Interior Design In Restaurants
Restaurant interior design must be a must for any establishment since the way your restaurant looks will be crucial to your branding. Your interior design is the first thing that your customer will notice as he/she walks through the doors. This first impression will dictate how they perceive your brand, what level of service they expect, what kind of time they anticipate, and if they want to come back
Thus, the importance of interior design cannot be underplayed. Here are some reasons why restaurant interior design is so important:-
•Restaurant Interior design in restaurants is crucial to the branding strategy. The way a restaurant looks impacts how the customers perceive the restaurant concept and if they consider it a good enough place to eat at.
Shabby or very bright interiors will form a negative impression on the customers and potentially make them leave even before they eat. An ideal restaurant design idea would be to use natural light to its fullest to make sure your place is more Instagrammable.
•In the age of Instagram, interior design is your restaurant’s silent salesman. Everybody wants to post where they have been all day, and if your restaurant looks Instagramable, it will make it to your customer’s feed and entice their entire follower list.
•Good interior design means marketable interior design. You can use your interior design for marketing your restaurant among your target customers. If there is something unique about your interiors, make it public. People love to think that they are a part of something unique and would flock to your restaurant.
•Most importantly, interior design in restaurants impacts customer psychology. You can make your customers order more, eat fast, drink more, stay less, etc. all using interior restaurant ideas.
1. Architecture And Design
Architecture and design are essential aspects of restaurant interior design. The way you design the inside of your restaurant and place all your elements plays an integral role in defining the look and feel of your restaurant. It also has a significant influence on customer experience because it includes planning the layout of your restaurant. How spacious your restaurant will feel, how claustrophobic it will get during rush hours, and how comfortable it will be to walk around without bumping into people or crashing into tables, all of this dependent on the restaurant layout. It makes no sense for your joint to be beautiful if your servers cannot serve well, and customers cannot feel comfortable in their own space.
The floor plan of your restaurant must be such that there is individual space for every person seated. If you are a fine dining restaurant, 20 sq feet area per seat is ideal; however, for a QSR 10 sq feet area is considered perfect.
2. Lighting
Lighting is an essential part of your restaurant’s interior design. It does not make any sense for you to have everything perfect if the light is so off that it kills the effect. Technically there are three types of lightingAmbient, Task, and Accent lighting.
Ambient lighting defines the overall look and feel of your restaurant. Is your restaurant dimly lit or is it bright and heavy on the lights, this is the light that defines it. Fine dining restaurants usually use dim ambient lighting to create a relaxing mood and aura. As they serve customers in a way that pushes them to linger, and so order more, this atmosphere is perfect. QSRs, on the other hand, must be well-lit. The idea for them is for customers to come, eat fast and go. Bright lights induce that behavior, so the customers don’t keep lingering around. Task lighting is the light used for performing tasks. These are the lights that enable servers to work and customers to read the menu and order. This light is to be used strategically so that it does not kill the objective of the ambient light, but at the same time performs its function well, especially in fine dining restaurants. You can use it to highlight pathways or incorporate it by putting it on some unique features like sushi bars or minibars to highlight them.
Accent lights are lights used for that extra touch but mostly for decorative purposes. There you can experiment with it, but most wall lighting in this area is received better than overhead lighting. You can use these lights to reinforce the colors of your brand as well but don’t overdo it, or else it will kill the purpose.
As a restaurant owner and not an interior designer, you may feel that all these lights are just the same. True, there is not much of a difference between the three for the untrained eye, but if misused, the result can be a nightmare.
3. Colors
Colors believe it or not play a huge role in your restaurant interior design. The main thing that impacts what colors you must use in your restaurant is your target clientele. Different colors trigger different emotions and set different moods. Some colors stimulate diet while others repress it. Warm colors like red and orange are considered potent stimulants, so a lot of restaurants try to use red in their interior. Fine dining restaurants aim for a mood where customers would want to linger as opposed to QSRs and so it makes colors like blue or turquoise ideal for them. QSRs, on the other hand, need customers to order more and eat fast, thus making warm shades suitable for them.

First, What Is Cosmopolitan Interior Design?
Cosmopolitan interior design is an urban modern design style featuring varied patterns, colors, and textures. This design theme can include minimalist modern elements, edgy, experimental designs, glamorous chic, and ethnic heirlooms, all colliding in a 21st-century setting.
Larger furniture pieces, like couches and beds, tend to be low-profile and uniformly sleek. Decorative accents, such as mirrors, pillows, and end tables, usually demand creative expression with elegant geometric designs and vintage pieces with traditional embellishment.
COZIFY YOUR LIVING ROOM
When it comes to bringing cosmopolitan style to your living room, design update ideas to consider include changes in carpeting, flooring, and lighting.
Transitional Marble
This type of floor involves enclosed or full floor marbles, featuring two or more patterns, geometrical designs, and colors. Transitional enclosed carpeting adds drama to a modern living room.
Trendy White Black Flooring
Start designing your cosmopolitan bathroom by changing your old tiles to large white tile flooring for a neutral/black base. You might want to consider terrazzo flooring. Terrazzo is a highly durable flooring material, impervious to stains and water damage.
Install Luxury Lighting
For a cozy living room, invest in luxury lighting fixtures with transitional design elements. A white linen shade pendant light with a brushed nickel finish is graceful and charming.
Add Lush Pillows and Throws
To achieve a cosmopolitan look, choose geometrical patterns and bold colors for lush pillows.
The architect’s choice
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” said the great artist Leonardo da Vinci, which was later appropriated by Steve Jobs as a design philosophy for his Apple computers. Does it not hold true for all aspects of life?
When we see architecture with clean straight lines, without the trappings of complicated design, the simplicity of the effect is uplifting. The architecture should be seen as neat and functional.
Elegance is achieved when the superfluous is discarded and construction takes place with free-flowing spaces and interiors in harmony with the environment.
Homes untroubled by excess furniture and uncluttered by artifacts with clear spaces and surfaces suggest a minimalism and a freedom and openness that can be refreshing. It is not in the multiplicity and confusion of things that beauty is achieved. Perhaps, a plant in a corner can bring in the sense of the outdoors. In fact, simple can be more difficult than complex, as only an uncluttered mind can think clearly. Therefore, reducing the complex to simple is a measure of creativity.
When Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher emperor of Rome said, “The effect of true philosophy is unaffected simplicity and modesty. Persuade me not to ostentation and vain glory”, he said it all.
EXTRA-ORDINARY Materials
The following pages are ARCON’S DESIGN COMPANY treasure. It is intended as a tool not only for the consumer but also for those seeking inspiration in their own design work. Design since the millennium has witnessed a liberating pluralism, and for the past years, the design community has been in a state of flux, with no one style or trend being dominant. There has been a slow breaking down of the barriers between disciplines, cultures, roles, and skills: this is a period in which there is a place for craft-based, low-tech, individualistic approaches, as well as for mass-produced high-tech.
The concept of ‘’design for all “ introduces trends that have grown steadily in recent years: the increased democratization of design, the rise of superficial styling, and the birth of the design personality steadily in recent years. As we often explain to our clients: materials are the character actors of the projects. In today’s globalized, rootless world, design needs history more than ever. We can create a new design history at every point level. Remarkable new trend ideas can transform our everyday life, but we must produce only what can improve life, and what can make this world a better place. If you want information about these unique materials do not hesitate to ask.
The Cosmopolitan Greek gastronomic fashion, is expressed by the appearance of renowned chefs who enchant the palate of the guests with their modern Mediterranean gastronomic creations. Tolis Kravaris is one of them. In 2003 he created a completely new approach to Greek cuisine at "Mensa", showing that the taste superiority of top raw materials, worked in simple culinary ways of high precision, can result in an extremely expressive result.
Tolis Kravaris escalated himself to a pioneer of the Cosmopolitan gastronomy of Mediterranean cuisine. A different gastronomic experience that includes favorite dishes of Mediterranean cuisine in a "teased" version is what placed him among the most important culinary representatives in Greece.
Born in Ioannina Apostolos Kravaris is the son of very educated and accomplished parents, who encouraged him to follow his dreams and create his own path leaving a trial. In 2014 he entered the prestigious, British World Master Chef Society and since then he is leading by his example and his culinary creations.
He managed to dig up old recipes and create new authentic ones, based on pure materials, with simple flavors , inspired by Mediterranean tradition with a teased look, which evoke memories, feelings and become experiences. A dining experience you cannot ignore, and you, never forget.
The Chef is also building strong culinary menus and he is training the staff of restaurants around the world.
Spaghetti with shrimp, Feta cheese, and ouzo
500g Spaghettini Νο10 MISKO
500g shrimps No3, without shell
2 onions, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, grated
3 regular long green peppers, chopped into round slices
500g cherry tomatoes cut in half 250g Feta cheese, grated
80ml ouzo
2 tsp. basil
2 tbsp. parsley, finely chopped olive oil
Salt
If you ask me, the star of this dish is ouzo. OK, shrimp plays a major role too, but without the ouzo, it’s just another shrimp pasta. But let’s take things from the start. For this recipe, I wanted to make a light tomato and roasted pepper sauce to accompany the shrimp and provide a nice background where all the flavors from the shrimp and the ouzo would develop. I figured that since I’m already roasting the peppers why not roast the tomatoes also? Of course, since the tomatoes have higher water content than the peppers, they don’t get too caramelized or charred, but they lose some moisture and become sweeter. After roasting, all I did was remove the skins from the vegetables and blend everything to get a smooth sauce. This sauce literally transforms with the addition of star anise and ouzo, both of which have similar flavor profiles and pair amazingly well with seafood.

ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN GUIDE
But if you’ve never gone through the process of using an interior designer before, and you feel unsure, consider flipping the script and interviewing Now's the time to figure out what this partnership is going to look like.
In the heart of Brickell, where the Miami River meets the beautiful blue waters of Biscayne Bay, this soaring glass tower will stand illuminated by the infinite shimmer of the sun and the glittering lights of the city center. Combining the best of Brickell with enlightened design, artful service, and enlivening waterfront amenities, Baccarat Hotel & Residences offers residents a lifestyle infused with laid-back glamour and limitless luxury.
Billing isn’t standard
Billing is another feature that varies among interior designers. Since most own their own businesses, they are free to set their own fee structures. However, it typically works in one of two ways. Either the designer charges an hourly fee with or without the cost of materials built or charges you the retail price for merchandise and takes the upcharge as the fee. Both methods are considered typical. You just want to be sure you’re aware of how much you’re paying for services. Reputable designers will provide you with a thorough budget before they start making purchases, so seeing a cost breakdown shouldn’t be that difficult. If your designer seems resistant to the idea, you may want to look elsewhere.

This year’s cosmopolitan design trends are all about looking for ways to incorporate natural elements into your home. And the Baccarat Residences – inspired as they are by the glittering city lights, sparkling Miami sun, and shimmering Brickell waterfront – give you endless inspiration to pull from. Make indoor/outdoor integration a key consideration when making design decisions about materials, lighting, and the flow of your space, taking into account not just the interior features of each room but how they are enhanced by their outdoor backdrop. The use of natural, organic, and sustainable materials is a great way to honor the Baccarat’s setting, as is the utilization of nature-rich tones and plenty of vibrant greenery.
Make Smart Use of Light
Do accommodate your need for privacy, but don’t let the advantages of floor-toceiling windows and epic views go to waste. Lighting in your Baccarat home should be guided by the sun, with a big focus on maximizing natural light throughout the space. From there, use mirrors and other reflective services to carry that light wherever it’s needed, with consciously placed accent lighting that adds to the enchanting nature of the city lights when the sun goes down.
One of our favorite things to see as top Miami interior designers is the ample use of marble throughout a luxury home. Aside from its inherent beauty, marble is a naturally cooling surface that helps offset Miami heat without having to constantly blast the AC. And it offers so many possibilities beyond flooring.
Creative ways to use marble, include marble doors, full-slab marble showers, and kitchen islands, each of which provides the perfect blend of classic luxury design and contemporary coolness.
Miami obviously has its fair share of high-end spas, but that doesn’t mean you can’t benefit from your own personal spa at home, too. Work with a South Beach interior designer to incorporate spa elements into your master bath, such as heated towel rails, serene lighting, fine art in moisture-resistant framing, and diffuser-based spa scents like eucalyptus and cedarwood. Despite the Baccarat’s other relaxing amenities, you may never need to leave home to get some necessary peace and calm.

Poetry was the way I channeled the hardest days and the most dreadful nights into something I could reflect on. There was so much torturing my mind, that I needed a safe place to write it down and let it go. After journaling all my inner, deepest, and unacceptable truths about myself, it was suddenly easier to move on from it. I feel like a lot of us choose to ignore things that challenge us, make us sad, or feel something unwanted. But the reality of it all is that with ignorance there never comes acceptance; therefore, your mind will keep circling around the same thing you wanted to forget. If it wasn't for my best friends, I would have never recognized that running eventually gets so tiring that you end up drowning when you stop.
They were the ones who also taught me that you shouldn't stop loving so deeply just because love isn't all you were given. Instead of running, learn! Instead of ignoring, accept!
Instead of hating, forgive! Instead of fear, choose hope! That's what this unexpected path showed me. And once I let go of all those negative, triggering miserable feelings and thoughts, I was clear about what I needed and wanted from that day on. So, then, I found it!
This book is still hard for me to share, as there are parts of me I never even wanted to let others see. But after a while of talking about these difficult times and topics, I realized we’re kind of all similar, and maybe more people than I know of will find this book helpful, relatable, and empowering. Because there's indeed light at the end of every tunnel. We just must keep going till we reach it. The book is available on AMAZON.
