Transforming Architecture. The Role of AI in Architectural Design Rendering In recent years, the field of architecture has witnessed a significant transformation through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in various aspects of the design process. One particular area where AI has made significant strides is architectural rendering. By harnessing the power of AI algorithms, architects and designers can now create visually stunning and realistic representations of their ideas, enhancing the communication of design concepts to clients, stakeholders, and the general public. This article explores the role of AI in architectural rendering, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and future implications. Understanding Architectural Rendering Architectural rendering is the process of creating visual representations, such as images or animations, that depict the design intent of a building or space. Traditionally, architects relied on manual techniques, including hand-drawn sketches and physical models, to convey their ideas. However, these methods were time-consuming and lacked the level of detail and realism that clients often required to make informed decisions. The Rise of AI in Architectural Rendering With the advent of AI, architectural rendering has experienced a remarkable evolution. AI algorithms, particularly those based on deep learning and computer vision, have been developed to analyze vast amounts of data and generate high-quality renderings with astonishing accuracy. These algorithms have the ability to learn from existing architectural designs, understand spatial relationships, and generate photorealistic visualizations that capture the essence of the proposed building or space.

The Art of 3D Visualization

Benefits of AI in Architectural Rendering

Time and Cost Efficiency AI-powered rendering significantly reduces the time and cost associated with manual rendering techniques. AI algorithms can generate realistic renderings quickly, enabling architects to present multiple design options to clients in a short timeframe. This iterative process allows for faster decision-making, reducing project timelines and costs. Enhanced Realism AI algorithms have the capability to generate highly detailed and lifelike renderings, capturing textures, lighting conditions, and materials with great precision. This level of realism helps clients and stakeholders visualize the final product, fostering better understanding and engagement with the design concept.

iCOMMENT Improved Communication and Collaboration AI-powered architectural renderings facilitate effective communication between architects, clients, and other stakeholders. The visual representations generated by AI algorithms provide a common language for discussing and refining design ideas, ensuring that all parties involved have a shared understanding of the project vision. Challenges and Limitations While the integration of AI in architectural rendering offers numerous benefits, there are also challenges and limitations to consider: Data Availability and Quality AI algorithms require large amounts of high-quality data to learn from. However, architectural datasets can be limited in size and diversity, making it challenging for AI models to generalize effectively. Ensuring a robust and representative dataset is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable renderings. Interpretability and Control AI algorithms operate as black boxes, making it difficult for architects to understand how specific design choices influence the generated renderings. Balancing the desire for AI automation with the need for human control and intuition is a key challenge in the adoption of AI in architectural rendering. Ethical Considerations As AI algorithms become more sophisticated, questions arise regarding the ownership and use of generated renderings. Concerns about copyright infringement, intellectual property, and the potential misuse of AI-generated content need to be addressed to maintain ethical practices in the field of architectural rendering.

Future Implications Looking ahead, the integration of AI in architectural rendering is likely to have profound implications for the field of architecture: Design Augmentation AI-powered architectural rendering tools will continue to augment the creative abilities of architects. By analyzing vast architectural datasets and learning from historical designs, AI algorithms can provide architects with new insights, inspiration, and design suggestions. This symbiotic relationship between human architects and AI can push the boundaries of architectural design, leading to innovative and groundbreaking structures.

Sustainable Design Optimization AI algorithms can contribute to sustainable design practices by optimizing building performance and energy efficiency. By simulating and analyzing various environmental factors, such as sunlight, airflow, and thermal conditions, AI can assist architects in creating buildings that are environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. This integration of AI in architectural rendering can lead to the development of sustainable cities and communities.

Virtual and Augmented Reality The combination of AI and virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) technologies has the potential to revolutionize architectural visualization. AI algorithms can generate real-time renderings that can be experienced through VR headsets or AR devices, allowing clients and stakeholders to immerse themselves in a virtual representation of the proposed design. This immersive experience can provide a deeper understanding of the spatial qualities and aesthetics of the design, leading to more informed decision-making.

Generative Design Generative design, a concept where AI algorithms generate design options based on specified parameters, holds immense potential for architectural rendering. By defining criteria such as building constraints, performance objectives, and aesthetic preferences, architects can leverage AI algorithms to generate numerous design iterations. This process can spark creativity, explore unconventional design solutions, and optimize complex architectural forms.

Human-Centered Design While AI algorithms play a significant role in architectural rendering, the focus on human-centered design should not be overlooked. Ultimately, buildings and spaces are created for people, and the integration of AI should enhance the user experience and address human needs. Architects must strike a balance between leveraging AI technologies and ensuring that designs prioritize functionality, comfort, and the well-being of the end-users. Conclusion The integration of AI in architectural rendering has transformed the way architects conceptualize, communicate, and create designs. AI-powered algorithms have revolutionized the efficiency, realism, and flexibility of architectural renderings, benefiting architects, clients, and stakeholders alike. However, challenges related to data availability, interpretability, and ethical considerations need to be carefully addressed as AI continues to play an increasingly prominent role in architectural rendering. Looking forward, AI-powered architectural rendering holds great potential for advancing sustainable design practices, enhancing collaboration and communication, and fostering creativity and innovation in the field of architecture. By embracing AI as a powerful tool, architects can unlock new possibilities and shape the future of architectural design. 3D Rendering Credits: Sepideh Moghaddam Khaled Sadeden

Designing a CLASSICAL Home Classical architecture refers to the architectural styles of the ancient Greeks and Romans, who have influenced architecture throughout history.

PLUS

As the name suggests, classical interior design is deeply influenced by classicism – a reverence for the classical period and its aesthetics – and the Western classical tradition. Vitruvian proportions (those advocated by da Vinci) were a fundamental element of the classical style’s architecture, art, and design resulting in a formally aesthetically pleasing beauty. The classical design is recognized by its saber legs, strapped leather seat (although upholstered designs are now common), and curved back. The chaise longue also carries classical inspirations. Other key features of the classic interior style include urns, laurel wreaths, marble (busts, fireplaces, sculptures, et al), dentil molding, columns, swags in both drapery and decorative motifs, architectural nods (broken pediments, domes, friezes, and cornice), and murals.

The original color palette of ancient Greece comprised slate, mist blues, scarlet, violet, pale malachite, sun yellow, ivory, marble pink, and clay; Rome’s was comprised of more vivid magentas, golds, Pompeii reds, and black accents.

What are CLASSICAL design elements? Though not exhaustive, a traditional interior will often make use of the following elements: •Emphasis on symmetry and order •Traditional architectural details such as wainscoting and crown molding •Classic decor elements such as chandeliers and bookcases •Neutral color schemes with pops of bold colors, often in jewel tones •Upholstery and textiles tend to be subtler (cotton, velvet, or wool, for example) •Furniture pieces with traditional silhouettes, though they’re often updated with modern elements or finishes •Layered window treatments and draperies, though curtain valances aren’t used often •Classic patterns such as plaids, damask, or florals •Flooring tends to make use of darker wood Another feature of classic-style homes can be found in the materials used to create the space, namely layering luxurious textiles. Textiles are what make classic spaces feel soft and inviting, even if the overall design leans in a masculine direction. Some great textile options for mixing comfort and luxury: velvet, linen, leather, cashmere, hides and fur, wool, and silk.

TIPS TO CREATE A CLASSICAL INTERIOR SPACE To work out how to arrange your furniture, think symmetry. Try to create mirror images, such as identical sofas facing each other with a coffee table between, or maybe mix it up with one long sofa and two single armchairs opposite, as this still creates symmetry. Work your way around the room, addressing the large pieces of furniture first, then consider where your artwork and accessories will go – again, matching pairs usually work best. Placement is the major key to this look, and once you understand this quite a simple way of arranging furniture, you'll be able to easily recognize the look in magazines and movies and adapt the look for your own home. Classic style includes well-made furniture with detailing such as inlay and carved or turned legs, as well as pieces with ornate detailing, sometimes with a floral or fauna influence. Fabrics that have texture and subtle patterns, and stripes mixed with block colors, are popular choices. You can achieve a classic look by mixing in straighterlined pieces with more traditional items to create a fusion, which works by following the principles of placement. Two coffee tables side by side can act as one large piece. Try placing two dining chairs in the corners of a room, mirroring each other. It's this balanced order that creates harmony and a classic feel. Modern and transitional design are instant wins if you want to feel cool, fresh, and trendy, but for a classic, homey feel, traditional decor nails it. Along with the predictability comes a sense of comfort, familiarity, and accessibility. Nothing will really surprise you or catch you off guard, but you know what they say—there's no place like home.

Marianna Holoway Architectural Lighting & Interior Designer

While restaurants, ice cream parlors, cafes, and every other establishment in the F&B industry compete with each other using location, prices, and promotions, very few take the win from the margin of their interior design. Most people do not know this, but the restaurant interior design impacts customer psychology prompts them to order more or less, and even impacts the duration of their stay in the restaurant. Seating options, light, music, and architecture, all constitute a restaurant’s interior design. Here is a guide on how you can influence your customer’s psychology using interior design in restaurants and some brilliant restaurant interior ideas that you can use at your outlet.

Importance Of Interior Design In Restaurants Restaurant interior design must be a must for any establishment since the way your restaurant looks will be crucial to your branding. Your interior design is the first thing that your customer will notice as he/she walks through the doors. This first impression will dictate how they perceive your brand, what level of service they expect, what kind of time they anticipate, and if they want to come back. Thus, the importance of interior design cannot be underplayed. Here are some reasons why restaurant interior design is so important:•Restaurant Interior design in restaurants is crucial to the branding strategy. The way a restaurant looks impacts how the customers perceive the restaurant concept and if they consider it a good enough place to eat at.

Shabby or very bright interiors will form a negative impression on the customers and potentially make them leave even before they eat. An ideal restaurant design idea would be to use natural light to its fullest to make sure your place is more Instagrammable. •In the age of Instagram, interior design is your restaurant’s silent salesman. Everybody wants to post where they have been all day, and if your restaurant looks Instagramable, it will make it to your customer’s feed and entice their entire follower list. •Good interior design means marketable interior design. You can use your interior design for marketing your restaurant among your target customers. If there is something unique about your interiors, make it public. People love to think that they are a part of something unique and would flock to your restaurant. •Most importantly, interior design in restaurants impacts customer psychology. You can make your customers order more, eat fast, drink more, stay less, etc. all using interior restaurant ideas.

1. Architecture And Design Architecture and design are essential aspects of restaurant interior design. The way you design the inside of your restaurant and place all your elements plays an integral role in defining the look and feel of your restaurant. It also has a significant influence on customer experience because it includes planning the layout of your restaurant. How spacious your restaurant will feel, how claustrophobic it will get during rush hours, and how comfortable it will be to walk around without bumping into people or crashing into tables, all of this dependent on the restaurant layout. It makes no sense for your joint to be beautiful if your servers cannot serve well, and customers cannot feel comfortable in their own space. The floor plan of your restaurant must be such that there is individual space for every person seated. If you are a fine dining restaurant, 20 sq feet area per seat is ideal; however, for a QSR 10 sq feet area is considered perfect.

2. Lighting Lighting is an essential part of your restaurant’s interior design. It does not make any sense for you to have everything perfect if the light is so off that it kills the effect. Technically there are three types of lighting- Ambient, Task, and Accent lighting. Ambient lighting defines the overall look and feel of your restaurant. Is your restaurant dimly lit or is it bright and heavy on the lights, this is the light that defines it. Fine dining restaurants usually use dim ambient lighting to create a relaxing mood and aura. As they serve customers in a way that pushes them to linger, and so order more, this atmosphere is perfect. QSRs, on the other hand, must be well-lit. The idea for them is for customers to come, eat fast and go. Bright lights induce that behavior, so the customers don’t keep lingering around. Task lighting is the light used for performing tasks. These are the lights that enable servers to work and customers to read the menu and order. This light is to be used strategically so that it does not kill the objective of the ambient light, but at the same time performs its function well, especially in fine dining restaurants. You can use it to highlight pathways or incorporate it by putting it on some unique features like sushi bars or minibars to highlight them. Accent lights are lights used for that extra touch but mostly for decorative purposes. There you can experiment with it, but most wall lighting in this area is received better than overhead lighting. You can use these lights to reinforce the colors of your brand as well but don’t overdo it, or else it will kill the purpose. As a restaurant owner and not an interior designer, you may feel that all these lights are just the same. True, there is not much of a difference between the three for the untrained eye, but if misused, the result can be a nightmare. 3. Colors Colors believe it or not play a huge role in your restaurant interior design. The main thing that impacts what colors you must use in your restaurant is your target clientele. Different colors trigger different emotions and set different moods. Some colors stimulate diet while others repress it. Warm colors like red and orange are considered potent stimulants, so a lot of restaurants try to use red in their interior. Fine dining restaurants aim for a mood where customers would want to linger as opposed to QSRs and so it makes colors like blue or turquoise ideal for them. QSRs, on the other hand, need customers to order more and eat fast, thus making warm shades suitable for them.

AS A DESIGNER Marianna Holoway DOES THE USUAL IN AN UNUSUAL WAY

First, What Is Cosmopolitan Interior Design? Cosmopolitan interior design is an urban modern design style featuring varied patterns, colors, and textures. This design theme can include minimalist modern elements, edgy, experimental designs, glamorous chic, and ethnic heirlooms, all colliding in a 21st-century setting. Larger furniture pieces, like couches and beds, tend to be low-profile and uniformly sleek. Decorative accents, such as mirrors, pillows, and end tables, usually demand creative expression with elegant geometric designs and vintage pieces with traditional embellishment.

COZIFY YOUR LIVING ROOM When it comes to bringing cosmopolitan style to your living room, design update ideas to consider include changes in carpeting, flooring, and lighting. Transitional Marble This type of floor involves enclosed or full floor marbles, featuring two or more patterns, geometrical designs, and colors. Transitional enclosed carpeting adds drama to a modern living room.

Transitional enclosed carpeting adds drama to a modern living room.

Trendy White Flooring Start designing your cosmopolit an living room by changing your old tiles to large white tile flooring for a neutral base. You might want to consider terrazzo flooring. Terrazzo is a highly durable flooring material, impervious to stains and water damage.

Install Luxury Lighting For a cozy living room, invest in luxury lighting fixtures with transitional design elements. A white linen shade pendant light with a brushed nickel finish is graceful and charming. Add Lush Pillows and Throws To achieve a cosmopolitan look, choose geometrical patterns and bold colors for lush pillows.

The architect’s choice

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” said the great artist Leonardo da Vinci, which was later appropriated by Steve Jobs as a design philosophy for his Apple computers. Does it not hold true for all aspects of life? When we see architecture with clean straight lines, without the trappings of complicated design, the simplicity of the effect is uplifting. The architecture should be seen as neat and functional. Elegance is achieved when the superfluous is discarded and construction takes place with free-flowing spaces and interiors in harmony with the environment.

Homes untroubled by excess furniture and uncluttered by artifacts with clear spaces and surfaces suggest a minimalism and a freedom and openness that can be refreshing. It is not in the multiplicity and confusion of things that beauty is achieved. Perhaps, a plant in a corner can bring in the sense of the outdoors. In fact, simple can be more difficult than complex, as only an uncluttered mind can think clearly. Therefore, reducing the complex to simple is a measure of creativity. When Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher emperor of Rome said, “The effect of true philosophy is unaffected simplicity and modesty. Persuade me not to ostentation and vain glory”, he said it all.

EXTRA-ORDINARY Materials The following pages are ARCON’S DESIGN COMPANY treasure. It is intended as a tool not only for the consumer but also for those seeking inspiration in their own design work. Design since the millennium has witnessed a liberating pluralism, and for the past years, the design community has been in a state of flux, with no one style or trend being dominant. There has been a slow breaking down of the barriers between disciplines, cultures, roles, and skills: this is a period in which there is a place for craft-based, low-tech, individualistic approaches, as well as for mass-produced high-tech.

The Cosmopolitan Greek gastronomic fashion, is expressed by the appearance of renowned chefs who enchant the palate of the guests with their modern Mediterranean gastronomic creations. Tolis Kravaris is one of them. In 2003 he created a completely new approach to Greek cuisine at "Mensa", showing that the taste superiority of top raw materials, worked in simple culinary ways of high precision, can result in an extremely expressive result. Tolis Kravaris escalated himself to a pioneer of the Cosmopolitan gastronomy of Mediterranean cuisine. A different gastronomic experience that includes favorite dishes of Mediterranean cuisine in a "teased" version is what placed him among the most important culinary representatives in Greece. Born in Ioannina Apostolos Kravaris is the son of very educated and accomplished parents, who encouraged him to follow his dreams and create his own path leaving a trial. In 2014 he entered the prestigious, British World Master Chef Society and since then he is leading by his example and his culinary creations. He managed to dig up old recipes and create new authentic ones, based on pure materials, with simple flavors , inspired by Mediterranean tradition with a teased look, which evoke memories, feelings and become experiences. A dining experience you cannot ignore, and you, never forget.

Giblets from 1 turkey 1 dry onion, peeled, quartered 2 stalks celery, coarsely chopped 2 tsp. soup spoon of flour juices and leftovers from roasting the turkey salt, freshly ground pepper

For the turkey gravy, in a small pot put the giblets, onion, celery, salt and pepper, and enough water to cover them and boil on high heat for 2-3 minutes, until they start to sizzle. Lower the heat and simmer for 45 minutes.

Drain the giblets, discard the onion, and celery, and keep the broth, to which we add the liquids from roasting the turkey. Finely chop the giblets and put them in a pan together with the dry remains from the pan, sprinkle with flour and saute over medium heat, stirring for 2 - 3 minutes. Gradually add 3-4 tablespoons of the broth, season with salt and pepper, mix, and boil for 10 minutes or until the sauce thickens. We serve it in a saucer

Billing isn’t standard

Billing is another feature that varies among interior designers. Since most own their own businesses, they are free to set their own fee structures. However, it typically works in one of two ways. Either the designer charges an hourly fee — with or without the cost of materials built-in — or charges you the retail price for merchandise and takes the upcharge as the fee. Both methods are considered typical. You just want to be sure you’re aware of how much you’re paying for services. Reputable designers will provide you with a thorough budget before they start making purchases, so seeing a cost breakdown shouldn’t be that difficult. If your designer seems resistant to the idea, you may want to look elsewhere.

Meeting Tiffany & Co’s commitment to sustainability, MVRDV designs the façade of the company’s Changi Airport store, made up of recycled ocean plastics forming a unique cell-like pattern.

MVRDV has identified a series of distinctive design characteristics that would speak to Tiffany’s identity and history, ranging from touches of Tiffany Blue® to the use of innovative materials, inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany’s contributions to the world of glass art during the late 19th century.

Also drawing from Tiffany’s design legacy are nods to flora and fauna throughout the store. MVRDV’s designers looked to the local environment and Singapore’s coral reefs for a thematic anchor. Using the patterns seen in coral species as a guide, the team designed a screen to cover the store’s façade with an organic, cell-like pattern. This screen foregrounds a layer of glass that was screen printed with a color gradient, transitioning from Tiffany’s signature robin’s-egg blue to a deep blue that references Singapore’s ocean setting. The technology task force at MVRDV NEXT helped to refine the pattern of the coral-inspired screen, developing scripts to make sure the design could withstand various stresses.

3D printing experts developed a process to produce the 50-millimeterthick screen using recycled plastic, including reclaimed and recycled fishing nets. By making use of this unusual source of recycled plastic, the design not only draws inspiration from the oceans but also plays a part in protecting them. A particularly challenging task was to meet the stringent regulations for fire safety required in an airport; here, BUROMILAN solved the issue by adding a chemical to the mixture that is also manufactured using seawater. The gradient of light and dark blue returns in the 3D-printed portion of the design, in multiple ways: around the store’s entrances, the screen is light blue at the front and dark blue at the back; this gradient is reversed in the very corners of the façade, with a gradual transition in between – a gradient in all three dimensions.
