IS 3D RENDERING & ARCHITECTURAL VISUALIZATION THE FUTURE OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN?
French sociologist, philosopher, and cultural theorist Jean Baudrillard warned that simulation would soon “replace the real”... Is this slowly becoming true? Well, thanks to the entrepreneurial leadership of Paul Allen, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Steve Wozniak and the creation of the computing industry, there have been profound changes in both the business and personal lives of people all over the world. Especially architects and designers. Computers are becoming faster and stronger, and many people believe that the rapid advancements in computer technology over the last 30 years have “breathed new life into the world of Architecture”. What is certain, is that the digital age is here and it is being used by architects, designers, and 3D artists to build better, more efficient, more visually stunning buildings.
The Art of 3D Visualization
Why do people use 3D rendering and architectural visualization? Architecture and the urban environment’s design involve many stakeholders: engineers, architects, planners, and nonspecialists. All of these view the process from different perspectives, with different objectives, needs, and wants in mind. This obviously has many challenges, however, for any architectural project to be a success it requires a “shared understanding” to be reached between all of the parties involved... Luckily 3D rendering and architectural visualization techniques can help with this. Using powerful 3D rendering software architects, designers, and 3D artists can manipulate designs in realtime, quickly transitioning between concept and concrete and exploring different options, as well as, making refinements and creating multiple versions of the designs. SketchUp, Rhino, VRay, Maxwell, Mental Ray, and AutoCAD are just a few of the powerful 3D modeling and rendering software, empower design and dazzle clients today
iCOMMENT The “3D Visualization” Process 3D Visualization or 3D visualization is defined as “any technique for creating images or animations to communicate a message”. So it is not a surprise that 3D visualization through visual imagery has been an effective way to communicate ideas since the dawn of man, from cave paintings and Egyptian hieroglyphs to Leonardo da Vinci's technical drawings for engineering warcraft machines. What is surprising though, is the speed at which the advancements in 3D modeling and 3D rendering technology are happening and how this is affecting the buildings we build and live in. Architectural rendering or architectural visualization is the art of creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional images showing the attributes of a proposed architectural design. This technology is changing the way we design, in a way that simply wasn’t possible 15 years ago. 3D rendering and architectural visualization software enable architects and designers to evaluate “proportions” and “scales” using intuitive interactive 3D modeling and simulate the effects of lighting, ventilation, and acoustics in internal environments. 3D artists today are getting so good at their craft that they are able to produce realistic 3D renderings of buildings, giving clients an accurate 3D visualization of the proposed design. These proposed architectural visualizations can represent anything the client desires from the scale, textures, interior furnishings, etc., and are often represented together with “architectural scenes” where everyday actions are being carried out. This is probably something a number of overworked architects and designers can relate to, however, his accomplishments are a remarkable milestone not only in the technical evolution of drawing but also as representations of the architectural scene. In many of his sketches, he captured a diverse range of activities and people, which populated the scenes and spaces he represented – just like we would today in our 3D architectural visualizations for new developments.
Lighting Design. The Law Of Attraction.
Lighting design is partly a mathematical process and partly a series of assumptions based on the needs of the user. Taking a priceless piece of ART for example and transforming it so the client sees it in a different way, is a result of a tremendous amount of work and research, where the lighting scenario will allow the artwork to take center stage. COLOR RENDERING INDEX.
L.u.xu. r.y + PLUS
Choosing lights for your project can be quite technical. Whether you are building an apartment, a new home, a restaurant, a hotel, any kind of commercial business, or an art gallery, it is important to understand the different aspects there are to lights such as the Color Rendering Index, and why it’s so important to achieving your goal in your project. With the advances in LED technology, there are many LED light sources on the market that could potentially light Your project. But, before splashing out your cash, you need to find out not only that the LED you have in mind is bright enough and has an appropriate optical performance but, more importantly, the color performance of the LED
What is color temperature CCT ( Correlated Color Temperature ) and does it have a high CRI rating of Ra 90+ (color rendering index)? If the LED on offer has a CRI of between 85 and 90 it can be described as having ‘good color rendering’.90 and above is ‘excellent color rendering’ and that is where you need to be to get your artwork to look at its best 100 is the PERFECT scenario. For some lighting design can be an afterthought or just simply misunderstood. If you are opening a restaurant, for example, you might want dim lighting which might work great for your space—but it might also create a different environment from what you intended. Or, if you are an artist and are hanging your work in a gallery, the lighting will affect the way your painting is seen by customers and visitors. These risks can easily be solved by understanding CRIhere are some key things to know. CRI essentially refers to how different types of illumination, or light, affect the color of objects as they are perceived when the light hits them. The index allows lighting manufacturers to create different lights with CRIs that are best for different situations, i.e. a restaurant and an art gallery. To do this, they manufacture lights on a scale of 1-100: High-pressure sodium light sources have a CRI of 24 Mercury vapor light sources have a CRI of around 49 Fluorescent light sources have a CRI range between 50 and 85 depending on the phosphate coating of the bulb Metal halide light sources have a CRI range between 75 and 95 Poor quality LEDs the majority of what the market is using have a CRI range between 55-75 High-quality LEDs have a broad range of CRI up to 95 What do those CRI measurements mean? Simply put, the lower the CRI, the less accurate the true colors will be depicted. Therefore, if you are shining a light on a table where your food will be placed, you’d want a higher level CRI. The same goes for a piece of art, a mosaic installation, or a Corian sculpture—if the light shining on your object or photo has a low CRI, the colors that you used or captured are not going to appear as you intended. The closer the CRI rating is to 100, the more the colors will appear as they would in perfect natural, true lighting.
LIGHT REFLECTANCE LOSS You also have to be aware that the final lighting result will be influenced by different reflectance levels and the light loss the interior objects will cause after their installation in an interior space. Lighting design by the majority of specialists is a procedure that ends when the lighting installation is over. WRONG!! All the interior objects absorb light. It is then that we really have to do new calculations and lighting adjustments. There are cases where the lighting designer is also an architectural interior designer as it is in my case. So we have calculated the color of the interior surfaces during our interior design study and when we are working with our lighting concept-scenario we use those results in our lighting study, therefore we are not dealing with major changes until the end of the project. But it is really rare to find an architectural interior designer who is also a lighting designer. What you have to keep in mind is that the lighting calculations should be continued until the last interior object is installed. Lighting design is the most powerful MARKETING asset in any type of commercial, hospitality, residential, or art exhibition project you might have. The revenue the right lighting scenario can cause is immense. I dedicated all my life to studying architecture and interior design. It took me forever to study lighting design. What I still don’t understand is why people are hiring the most qualified architects and interior designers and why they pay for luxurious interior design materials, ( expensive marble, mosaic, leathers, Corian, Swarovski, artwork etc.) if they are not planning on hiring a lighting designer to make sure that all those luxurious visual ” stimulations ” would be perceived in their eyes and the eyes of their customers, they way they should? So, it became my passion. My addiction. To educate my clients and to illuminate correctly their businesses. I turned out to be a great Marketing asset and a powerful weapon in what they are trying to accomplish. Success in every possible way. Marianna Holoway Architectural Lighting & Interior Designer
Hotel design involves the planning, drafting, design, and development of hotels. The concept of hotel design is rooted in traditions of hospitality to travelers dating back to ancient times, and the development of many diverse types of hotels has occurred in many cultures. For example, the advent of rail travel in the early 1900s led to the planning, design, and development of hotels near railroad stations that catered to rail travelers. Hotels around Grand Central Terminal in New York City are examples of this phenomenon.[4] Hotel interior design and styles are very diverse, with numerous variations existent.
Contemporary hotel design can be sophisticated and functional, involving specialist architects and designers, environmental and structural engineers, interior designers skilled contractors, and suppliers, particularly for large, intricate projects. Hotel design can involve the refurbishment of an existing building already used for lodging, the conversion of a building previously used for another purpose, or the construction of new buildings. Hotel design involves planning regarding the estimated client needs for the facility along with the designers' vision. Hotel buildings may have various functions, including restaurants, outdoor facilities swimming pools, fitness centers, and spas. Contemporary hotel design involves effectively integrating these various aspects of hotel operations within a location to minimize interference with one another. For example, hotel design includes considerations to avoid guests being inundated with excessive noise and the movement of people. Hotels are usually designed from the inside out to ensure the practical functionality and relationship of their parts.
As the travel and hospitality industries rebound in 2022, keeping up with the latest design trends is more important than ever. Now, hotels must look to not only differentiate themselves from the competition but also attract customers in a safe and welcoming way — and everything is fair game. Amenities, services, and, most importantly, design choices are all pivotal decisions hotels have to make to bring in customers and earn repeat business. When looking at current hotel design trends, many try to create a more inviting space that elicits the feeling of a “home away from home.” Fostering that comfortable, relaxing — and also safe — atmosphere leaves guests with a positive opinion of the hotel, one they might share in reviews or with their friends or family. Many hotels even design with social media in mind, installing eye-catching features or greenery that might inspire guests to snap a photo to share. Below are some of the exciting trends we’re seeing in the hotel industry that you should consider in your next design.
Many hotels are incorporating the comfortable, inviting design elements of a residential home into their commercial space. This hotel design trend is especially important for guest rooms, where you want to create an environment that feels safe and relaxing — whether a person is traveling for business or pleasure. It is equally important in outdoor spaces since many guests are often looking to enjoy refreshments on a balcony or relax before their next meeting. Plus, helping guests feel comfortable and relaxed is a great way to leave them with a favorable impression of the hotel space and brand. Hotel guests are looking for designs that are comfortable and approachable, which is a shift from past decades.
LOBBIES
Lobbies have typically served one purpose: as a place to check in to your room and to get information from the front desk. Décor was minimal, with an occasional couch and side table set up for guests. Over the years, however, lobbies have elevated their design aesthetic and been transformed to better serve and engage all guests. Now, for an added level of safety and security, many hotels are incorporating sanitation stations, digital check-in methods, and touchless features such as elevator keypads and credit card machines to give guests peace of mind. But as more people begin to feel comfortable congregating in lobbies, hotels will once again turn to design and style to ensure a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. Comfortable chairs and sofas, eye-catching plants and artwork, and stylish rugs and furnishings are the perfect addition.
Hotel lobbies are the ultimate gathering space for guests and locals alike, and their inviting atmosphere and comfortable setup draw guests into spending time in the space beyond their initial check-in/checkout Whether it’s work or play, new hotel design trends are seeing lobbies that cater to all needs. Many are equipped with coworking spaces, which is especially important with the increase in remote employees. Guests have a place to make calls, charge their phones, or use their laptops while enjoying access to free Wi-Fi. Even if guests aren’t there for work, having a designated space to check in with family and friends back home or just relax outside of the room has become a vital design element for hotel lobbies.
Lighting Lighting is an essential part of a hotel’s interior design. It does not make any sense for you to have everything perfect if the light is so off that it kills the effect. Technically there are three types of lighting- Ambient, Task, and Accent lighting. Ambient lighting defines the overall look and feel of your establishment. Is your dimly lit or is it bright and heavy on the lights, this is the light that defines it. High-end hotels usually use dim ambient lighting to create a relaxing mood and aura. As they serve customers in a way that pushes them to linger, and so order more, this atmosphere is perfect. QSRs, on the other hand, must be well-lit. The idea for them is for customers to come, eat fast and go. Bright lights induce that behavior, so the customers don’t keep lingering around. Task lighting is the light used for performing tasks. These are the lights that enable servers to work and customers to read the menu and order. This light is to be used strategically so that it does not kill the objective of the ambient light, but at the same time performs its function well, especially in well-designed hotels. You can use it to highlight pathways or incorporate it by putting it on some unique features like sushi bars or minibars to highlight them. Accent lights are lights used for that extra touch but mostly for decorative purposes. There you can experiment with it, but most wall lighting in this area is received better than overhead lighting. You can use these lights to reinforce the colors of your brand as well but don’t overdo it, or else it will kill the purpose.
Sometimes, the framework for socializing, enjoyment and sensuality is created by totally simple rooms, sometimes, it is created by building up dreams that are translated into a room’s architecture .

Just as man has changed over the years, the environment in which he lives has also evolved. Indeed, with the arrival of the modern age, the curious and traveler aspect of man came to the fore. This led to the emergence of cosmopolitan design: it is a style aimed at expressing and displaying knowledge, cultural knowledge, and all that distinguishes people today.
What is cosmopolitan design? The characteristics In recent years, the cosmopolitan style has become more and more established and popular. It is a design that mirrors the cultural knowledge and information that characterizes the man of today. Nowadays, human beings are no longer naive and unaware of their surroundings and the outside world. On the contrary, the main characteristic of the modern era is the desire to know and discover more and more. An inquisitive, knowledgeable, and informed man needs to live in an environment that bears witness to his being. Consequently, the cosmopolitan style was born with this very purpose: to make the home a mirror of man’s cultural and social essence.
The living room uses natural and earthy colors, with the main palette consisting of dark browns and whites with highlights and accents of reflective metals and greenery. With the brilliance of this design, the 21st-century styling keeps the home updated and current with the current trends. With the whites and the browns, the living room resembles a natural setting which is comfortable for the eyes. The colors are relaxing and soft to the sight, making for a snug environment to return to every day.
Trendy White Flooring Start designing your cosmopolit an living room by changing your old tiles to large white tile flooring for a neutral base. You might want to consider terrazzo flooring. Terrazzo is a highly durable flooring material, impervious to stains and water damage.
The architect’s choice
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” said the great artist Leonardo da Vinci, which was later appropriated by Steve Jobs as a design philosophy for his Apple computers. Does it not hold true for all aspects of life? When we see architecture with clean straight lines, without the trappings of complicated design, the simplicity of the effect is uplifting. The architecture should be seen as neat and functional.
Elegance is achieved when the superfluous is discarded and construction takes place with free-flowing spaces and interiors in harmony with the environment.
The dining area however is clearly meant to appear much more refined. With the tasteful design of horizontal beams for the backsplash, and the pristine white marble table and bench, the space is much more polished than the rest of the home, and rightfully so. With such a focus on the dining area, it makes for very elegant dinners, perfect for those who love to cook and prepare gorgeous-looking meals fit for a Michelin Star. The pendant lighting there is also another well-tough addition to the space. The rose gold color is not a typical or usual inclusion in homes, but here, a splash of such stylish color is welcomed. The tear-drop shape of the lamp hood is another exquisite feature that adds to the refined air of the space.
Homes untroubled by excess furniture and uncluttered by artifacts with clear spaces and surfaces suggest a minimalism and a freedom and openness that can be refreshing. It is not in the multiplicity and confusion of things that beauty is achieved. Perhaps, a plant in a corner can bring in the sense of the outdoors. In fact, simple can be more difficult than complex, as only an uncluttered mind can think clearly. Therefore, reducing the complex to simple is a measure of creativity. When Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher emperor of Rome said, “The effect of true philosophy is unaffected simplicity and modesty. Persuade me not to ostentation and vain glory”, he said it all.
EXTRA-ORDINARY Materials The following pages are ARCON’S DESIGN COMPANY treasure. It is intended as a tool not only for the consumer but also for those seeking inspiration in their own design work. Design since the millennium has witnessed a liberating pluralism, and for the past years, the design community has been in a state of flux, with no one style or trend being dominant. There has been a slow breaking down of the barriers between disciplines, cultures, roles, and skills: this is a period in which there is a place for craft-based, low-tech, individualistic approaches, as well as for mass-produced high-tech.

The concept of ‘’design for all “ introduces trends that have grown steadily in recent years: the increased democratization of design, the rise of superficial styling, and the birth of the design personality steadily in recent years. As we often explain to our clients: materials are the character actors of the projects. In today’s globalized, rootless world, design needs history more than ever. We can create a new design history at every point level. Remarkable new trend ideas can transform our everyday life, but we must produce only what can improve life, and what can make this world a better place. The Cosmopolitan Greek gastronomic fashion is expressed by the appearance of renowned chefs who enchant the palate of the guests with their modern Mediterranean gastronomic creations. Tolis Kravaris is one of them. In 2003 he created a completely new approach to Greek cuisine at "Mensa", showing that the taste superiority of top raw materials, worked in simple culinary ways of high precision, can result in an extremely expressive result. Tolis Kravaris escalated himself to a pioneer of the Cosmopolitan gastronomy of Mediterranean cuisine. A different gastronomic experience that includes favorite dishes of Mediterranean cuisine in a "teased" version is what placed him among the most important culinary representatives in Greece. Born in Ioannina Apostolos Kravaris is the son of very educated and accomplished parents, who encouraged him to follow his dreams and create his own path leaving a trial. In 2014 he entered the prestigious, British World Master Chef Society and since then he has been leading by his example and his culinary creations. He managed to dig up old recipes and create new authentic ones, based on pure materials, with simple flavors, inspired by Mediterranean tradition with a teased look, which evoke memories, and feelings and become experiences. A dining experience you cannot ignore, and you, never forget.

Brandy Cream Chicken Ingredients •boneless skinless chicken breasts • Mini portobello mushrooms – also called baby Bella, mini Bella, or crimini mushrooms •brandy •heavy cream •minced garlic •butter •brown sugar •salt •freshly ground pepper
First, generously season your chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet or pan over medium to mediumhigh heat. Add the chicken breasts to the pan and cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until the juices run clear, turning a nice golden brown. Once fully cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the pan and set aside. Note: Cooking times can vary depending on the size and thickness of your chicken breasts. The internal temperature should be at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Tent the chicken with foil to keep warm. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and the mushrooms to the same pan and saute for 3-5 minutes over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low carefully remove the mushrooms from the pan and set aside. Add the brandy and minced garlic to the same pan then increase the heat to medium. Deglaze the pan with brandy by scraping up in browned bits and cook over medium heat for 3 – 4 minutes, or until the brandy has been reduced by half. Once the brandy has been reduced, add the last 2 tablespoons of butter and brown sugar to the same pan and stir over medium heat until the butter is melted and sugar dissolved. Add the heavy cream, salt, and pepper to the same pan and whisk to combine all ingredients. Simmer for 3 – 4 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally. Keep at a simmer, not boil, and reduce the heat if needed. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Return the cooked chicken and mushrooms back to the pan and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring and spooning the sauce over the chicken. Remove from heat and serve.

ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN GUIDE FRENCH COUNTRY STYLE French country style is defined as a mix of rustic and refined decor inspired by the homes in the French countryside. It's a popular style worldwide because of its comfortable and casual elegance that's never ostentatious. Three distinct characteristics make up the style: •Softly patterned fabrics in muted colors •Distressed, painted, and vintage furnishings and accessories •Lots of wood and other natural materials You may also hear this type of decor called provincial style. Provincial style is recognized as a slightly more formal, refined look. Some of its elements, such as its rich colors, bold patterns, and gold accents, can be incorporated into the French country style.
Architecture The style's architecture is taken straight from the French provincial countryside. Here are the style's most popular interior architectural elements: •Exposed wooden ceiling beams •Natural stone, wood, or brick floors •Weathered appearance French country homes incorporate stone, wood, and muted colors into their exterior architecture as well.

Billing isn’t standard
Billing is another feature that varies among interior designers. Since most own their own businesses, they are free to set their own fee structures. However, it typically works in one of two ways. Kitchens A kitchen in this style is both comfortable and sophisticated. Cabinetry may look like regular furniture with molding and carvings. Casual kitchens of this style feature shabby chic and vintage touches, including pretty old jars and bottles that hold pantry items, quaint signage for wall decor, wrought iron pot racks, and plenty of copper pots. Modern French country kitchens are known for their signature, decorative range hoods.
Simple Color Palette The color palette inside a French country home mirrors the exterior's natural and soft qualities. You'll find white, cream, red, gray, and brown straight from the variety of natural building materials and complementary paint colors. And since these homes often feature multiple windows, natural light can reflect off the softly colored walls and surfaces to open up the space even further.
Living Rooms Airy, whitewashed, and sun-kissed describe the style of French country living rooms. There should not be any heavy, dark fabrics or furniture in the room. This style of living room beckons guests with an uplifting and pretty mix of patterned fabrics and painted furniture. Use sheer lace curtains to allow light to stream in while still providing privacy. For a quaint and whimsical touch, place a wrought iron garden bench with pillows under the front window for the look of a casual window seat.

Our concept of “democratic design”—to increase the quality of the objects at lower prices so that more people can enjoy the best—set Arcon Design apart in early 2000, when the design was geared exclusively towards the elite. Our inventive and fanciful interior concepts for numerous restaurant, hospitality, and retail projects are world-renowned and our design is entirely sustainable and eco-friendly.
