EDITOR’S NOTE: Today, and every day, I continue my dedication to veganism. I will spread the information, using any means possible (general-conversation with new-acquaintances, social-media, scheduled meetings with political leaders, etc.). I hope that you will join me, in doing the same. “Advocacy for veganism” is a minority-campaign; so we (vegans), welcome any new heroes, who are willing: to take part in the spreading of nonviolence; to make our voices heard. In this edition of NMV, I am moved to speak about “food advertisements” –television, radio, magazine, newspaper, etc.– they are monopolized by companies, who sell animal-products, such as: dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, etc.); egg; and flesh; [this fact is nauseating, to me]. In the food-section of any “traditional, nationally-mainstream grocer,” animal-products, fill every aisle, and every shelf …(Put aside , for a moment: the butcher; the seafood counter; the dairy cooler; the delicatessen; & the frozen varieties of all these. Let us consider the canned, bottled, bagged, and boxed foods that we think of as: “vegetarian”)...breads contain (chickens’) eggs and (cows’) milk; refried beans have (pigs’) lard; chips, dips, soups, sauces, salad-dressings, rice-dishes, pasta-dishes, etc. etc. etc., contain broths & cheeses (from animals). If I continue mentioning on & on & on; I will, obviously, come to exhaustion; from trying to show (with complete details) that: nearly 100% of prepared food-products (in most of our society’s mainstream grocers & restaurants) contain animal-body-parts. There is a lot of talk about “global climate issues,” yet everyone is missing the “elephant in the room” who is trumpeting, “Stop eating us” (i.e., stop eating animals) [‘Animal Agriculture’ –the energy & tactics used, for the mass consumption of animals, by humans-- is the primary cause of global-warming]. The world needs more compassionate citizenry. We need to wake up. We need to “live VEGAN.” That’s right, I said it, …VEGAN! Veganism is not only good for people's health, and the ecology of our planet; it also eradicates a wrong, that has been plaguing us, for centuries: the abusive disrespect, of being disconnected, with animals. We should know, (with a heart-connection), that entity who is expected to be sacrificed on our plate; then, we will: un-die the swine; & dine on the vine.

I’m counting on you (every vegan out there) to: up your game, step up, be counted, be heard. Your dollars speak. Your choice is your voice. The money you spend on “non-cruelty products and services” speaks …and merchants will hear. Make sure that your daily choices, are voices of heroic-love. Together, we can make a difference. Each voice counts. Each choice counts. I pray for: the peace of veganism, throughout the world; and, the happiness of all beings, (both human and non human). Ahimsa. Livegan, Nancy & Arwen

Assistant Editor’s Note: I would like to report, that with help from my friends, I am getting stronger and can even hold myself up for short stints of time. I am now undergoing physical therapy to strengthen and get my hind legs to cooperate with the rest of my body. Again my sincere appreciation to those who contributed to GoFundMe (For the Love of Arwen) campaign, which has helped with the expenses needed for my recovery. Livegan, Arwen

Elementary School Classroom Participation In the Red and Green VegFest My name is Brian Valenzuela and I am a fourth grade teacher at Duranes Elementary School in the Albuquerque Public School District. I was approached by the organizer of the First Annual Red and Green VegFest (Nancy Arenas) about my classroom participating in producing visual art to be displayed at this Annual Festival. It was suggested to me that the theme of the artwork could be Earth Day, healthy eating habits, as well as humane treatment of animals. I saw this as a wonderful opportunity to fulfill my obligation to teach my students Visual Arts, Life Science, Earth Science and Health. I am charged with teaching these subjects, but often find little time to do so because of high stakes State Testing Requirements that focus primarily on Language Arts and Mathematics. The students were excited when I announced that we would be spending time on this Thematic Unit, particularly because it was near the testing window and the students were experiencing stress due to intense teaching of reasoning skills needed to achieve on the state mandated standardized testing. With joy in their hearts, they began researching Earth Day and found many excellent resources online in their attempt to educate themselves in this wonderful movement. The students began to take notes and decide on what would be the theme of their 12 X 18 inch poster that would be judged at the Festival. They read about Earth Day and wrote some ideas in their own words that they felt would be important to include on their posters. Next, they created rough drafts of their posters and showed them to me to check their appropriateness. They were given a number of different types of art media such as watercolors, colored pencils, crayons, markers, tempera paints, and pastels. The students’ creativity flourished and the posters came out wonderful. The next week I became very ambitious and decided to take on the dreaded (messy) Paper Mache balloon globes to be displayed at the festival as compliments to other decorating by the organizer. I purchased high quality medium sized balloons and common everyday white flour. I had the students cut up medium sized strips of white copy paper so the finished product would be good for decorating. They simply mixed bowls of water with flour and the students dipped their paper in the mixture. Later they hung them up on a sturdy rope to dry overnight. The next day the students decorated them with more emphasis on the theme of vegetarianism and humane treatment of animals. The globes came out surprising Well and they were quite a good compliment to the Festival, as they were displayed around the main hall of the Red and Green VegFest. Overall, the experience was very pleasant and the students were enlightened on these important subjects as they mature to become productive members of society.

Let’s Take A Look At Zoos – Not A Home Sweet Home When I was growing up, going to the zoo, was an exciting thing to do. I got to see such beautiful animals (especially the lions, I love the lions). I was so happy, that they were there for me…I never questioned whether it was “right”…and, it was right . . . right?!?!? Unfortunately, I was not told the whole story. In later years, I demystified, the charming (yet, deceptive) fairy tale, of happy zoo-animals: Zoos are not “a home sweet home” for any of the animals imprisoned there.

Is the Zoo Industry (as a whole), serving animals with ...love? Perhaps you feel this question is ...shocking. Consider the love-contradiction involved, wherein: zoo owners/zoo employees/& zoo customers, are carnivorous meateaters. . . -- “I love you, (zoo animal)...I love to see, the life of your beautiful body, with my eye” -- “I love you, (farm animal)...I love to taste, the death of your delicious body, with my tongue.” The zoo-animals are not expected to “end up” in our bellies; but, they do “end up” ...behind bars. If, indeed, zoo-animals are being hurt, through zoo-affairs; then we, as a culture, are (once again) hurting ourselves. We would be misleading our children on: what it means to wield our power & intelligence, for peace in the world. What kind of Big-brothers & Big-sisters (i.e., Big-humans) are we being to our “wilder” counterparts of the animal-kingdom? Yes, the same love-contradiction, applies to carnivorous pet-”owners.” Nonetheless, the question regarding, the quality-oflife, for zoo-animals, begs to be answered, here. So, what is the truth? Here is what some people have said; about their direct experience, with zoos: ----------------------------------------------------“...zoos...are not protectors of endangered species, conservationists, or research centers; and, they do not teach anyone to truly respect animals; ({if they did, zoo} visitors would...become members of animal-protection-agencies, instead of going for a hot dog at the zoo cafe).” /// Ruby Roth, Author. Many animals held in captivity begin to form poor health conditions or abnormal mental health problems. One common neurotic and atypical behavior is known as “Zoochosis.” Zoochosis occurs as a result of boredom, depression, frustration, a lack of mental and/or physical enrichment, and removal from the animal’s natural habitat and social structures. /// Born Free. “Zoochosis: Abnormal and stereotypic behavior in captive animals.“ Retrieved: February 11, 2014. /// Last Chance for Animals. “Zoos and Circuses.“ Retrieved: January 30, 2014. Pathology of Zoo Animals...documents widespread malnutrition among zoo animals; high mortality rates from the use of anaesthetics and tranquillizers; serious injuries and deaths sustained in transport; and frequent occurrences of cannibalism, infanticide and fighting almost certainly caused by overcrowded conditions. /// Jamieson, Dale (1985). “Against Zoos.“ Retrieved: January 30, 2014. When polled, 94% of people believe that zoos teach children how to protect animals and their habitats. In reality, zoos teach people how animals react to boredom, depression, and stress, in captive situations. Never will a zoo-goer witness [in a zoo] an animal {living, as it would} in its chosen habitat and in a natural state, thus making true education almost impossible. /// Association of Zoos and Aquariums. “Visitor Demographics.“ Retrieved: February 1, 2014. “I photograph at zoos regularly, and I know, they are not all bad or ill-intentioned places… Many have adequate space, food, shelter and enrichment for the animals. Sadly, this is the exception, rather than the norm.” /// JoAnne McArthur, weanimals.org --------------------------------------------------Cont’d next page

Let’s Take A Look At Zoos – Not A Home Sweet Home

Zoos, were created by humans, for the selfish purposes of: enjoyment; & making money. Human-ignorance & human-greed (once again) partner-up with the ole mighty dollar, to “purchase” sentient-beings…American slavery, is not abolished, after all. Certain people will argue, that pet-owners “purchase” their pets…yes, well: is this not, merely, an adoption-fee, that is involved, when making a home, for one who is lovingly-treated as an equal member of the family? Zoo-animals are not simply adopted; zoo-animals are imposed upon, with the heavy-burden of misery; this is not…love. It is the fate of zooanimals: to live in “taxation without representation;” to be treated with tactics, that are “cruel & unusual.” We are tricked into believing, that each zoo is a legitimate business “for the whole family”…but what about the family they are keeping hostage, the animals? Zoo-animals are, either: taken from their homes; or, born into imprisonment. Their prison is, the “zoo” itself; for, the zoo prevents its wild-animal residents (inmates), from living their lives in nature, (in their species-appropriate habitat) where they are free to do, at will (in their own time & place) simple things, like: exploring a “new” path or tree-branch, running, roaming, flying, climbing, foraging, choosing a mate, raising a family, and being with others of their own species. We must give respect to non-human animals. We should allow them, to live and move freely, in their natural environment. They should not be ripped away from their families and homes. So, do real-vegans support animal-zoos? How could they? Please, do not support violence upon animals, in any way.

Zoos, can be a busy hub of activity, and parents might worry that skipping the zoo, means their children are “missing out.” However, there are many alternatives, to visiting the zoo, that help children connect with animals, and help children learn more about animals: Visit an animal sanctuary; Observe wildlife habitats, to learn about local plants, trees and animals; Visit local parks and hiking trails; Watch educational documentaries; Walk dogs, or care for other animals, at a local shelter; Read and share books with children; and, naturally, there are (infinitely) more creative ways, to expand yourself with animals, while …being loving to animals NM Vegan | 07

The Buzz The birds are waiting in anticipation for their fill of water to bathe and enjoy the day. The sun has not yet peeked over the Sandia Mountains. I revel in the coolness of the fresh morning air this Summer Solstice as the full moon sets and sun rises. The cycles of nature bring hope every day and emit a life giving force that no one can destroy ever. Despite the seeming way the world is in chaos and horrors that have recently occurred due to the hatred and intolerance of one human, there is life and things are beginning to buzz in the Bees Knees and Hummers Hangout Urban Wildlife Sanctuary. The volunteer tree at the northwest corner of the sanctuary houses various members of the sanctuary… members of the board, the CEO, Vice President and members at large, these are the feathered critters only one sector of inhabitants of the wildlife sanctuary. The thirty year old pear tree that was the only true tree and essential member of the tree tribe of the sanctuary was doing well despite it’s few years of neglect by the previous temporary owners of this space. Besides for my human family of blood relatives and friends all the plants and small wildlife are my family as well. Extending this even further all life is my family and it is my joy and responsibility to share how everyone can provide the simple necessities to help restore our living earth our mother to green again. Where is this sanctuary? It is on an urban city lot in Albuquerque, New Mexico. About six years ago I invested in a home and after a half year of weeding, mulching and amending the areas where I wanted plants to hopefully grow they were planted. The sale plants that were homeless during what most people consider the ‘non-growing’ season in Albuquerque. All of them in my sunroom waiting to be placed in the ground at the appropriate time. Most of the plants that would do well in the full sun of my front and back yards were ‘coincidentally’ perennials (plants that come back every year or reseed themselves), and attract pollinators: bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, small birds and other small wildlife including insects. Also ‘coincidentally’ there were rain barrels on sale made of recycled materials that will provide most of the water needed for the gardens. As I walked over the newly amended and mulched earth showing a friend an illustration of what was to be the inner meditation gardens, the herb gardens, the berry bushes and such, I felt another presence peeking over my shoulder. Perched delicately on the fence was the CEO of this garden. A fluffy grey long beaked feathered being tilting her head toward the illustration to get a better view of the plans. After all, she and all her relatives were there years before I came on the scene. She nodded and then flew off. It was still late January and a bit chilly. Every year she and her family return to nest and over see the entire sanctuary along with the other pollinators that nest and give birth and receive sustenance from all the plants that are designed to feed creatures in their natural habitat. Meet: Silver City, NM The valley which is now called Silver City, once served as an Apache campsite. With the arrival of the Spaniards, the area became known for its copper mining. After the American Civil War, a settlement developed and became known as la Ciénega de San Vicente (the Marsh of St. Vincent). With a wave of American prospectors, the pace of change increased, and booming Silver City was founded in the summer of 1870. Silver City, in Grant County, New Mexico; is one of the most diverse landscapes in the southwest US. Silver City hosts half a dozen climatic regions; as well as a variety of: vegetative-species, weather-patterns, and temperature-ranges …sometimes over the space of just a few miles! Silver City is home to many musicians, artists, etc.; and, also, has a thriving downtown arts district.

The Buzz – Cont’d This year 6 years after it’s creation, the rosemary plants that have become life affirming nourishment for our local bee population burst into bloom on January 2nd!! For three months literally hundreds of bees received nectar to nourish their lives and create honey for those that are local honey bees. It is my pleasure to write “The Buzz” with information on how whether a person is an apartment dweller or has acres of land can create an urban wildlife sanctuary and stories of how the wildlife on this small lot have brought me great enjoyment, laughter and hope! In 2011 2 ½ years after creating this garden, Time Magazine published one of the first public articles about bee colony collapse. Pollinators are important to help ensure more than 1/3 of our plant food supply in the world. In future articles you the reader can expect fact filled information, inspirational stories and easy, simple instructions on how you can help restore our environment no matter where you live. Until then may I introduce you to the CEO and Vice President of the Bees Knees and Hummers Hangout.

About the author: Miranda Jacobson is the creator and manager of: Bees Knees And Hummers Sanctuary. She offers free presentations and home visits to help individuals be inspired to create their own gardens whether it is on a city lot or an apartment patio. She is available for public talks at conferences, for organizations, or private homes. The goal is to inspire the creation of these sanctuaries and teach how to create them on a budget for the individual, group or organization. Animal-Circuses: That’s Not Entertainment …That’s Torture So, you have heard about the “Greatest Show On Earth” …well, in reality, any circus that uses animals, is (ironically) the “Saddest Show On Earth.” A circus-animal is (often) gotten for the circus, by being stolen from its mother and/or family; and, held in captivity, for its lifetime, in cramped quarters, and made to perform, even when sick. Many circus-animals are maltreated and/or castigated, repeatedly & frequently, in order to force their performance. Of course, they are performing for the audience….and that is you! Some circusanimals are born in captivity; and, therefore, must grow-up “around” humans (away from their natural habitat) in an abnormal (and, often, traumatic) environment. We are led, through a national-hypnosis, into believing that circuses are legitimately ethical entertainment: but, for whom is it pleasurable?...definitely not the animals. According to recent studies, nearly 100% of the population, believe that circuses are animal-friendly; and, that circuses offer an accurate image of healthy “wild” animals, {{even though the (circus) animals, are (obviously) not observed in the wild, by those attending the circus}}. Did you know that the training methods (often) include the use of: whips, ropes, bull hooks, electric prods, (and other weapons), as well as food-denial. These very “methods” are repeated, so the animals, (through fear), will become conditioned, to obey their trainer…or else! Under these stressful conditions, circus-animals suffer from psychological complications, which they would not encounter in their natural habitat. Common signs, indicating mental distress, of circus-animals, include: swaying back and forward, head-bobbing, pacing, and (even such severe repercussions as) self-mutilation. You have to ask yourself, “Is this the kind of thing that we should support????” The answer is, “Heck No!” Cruelty, in any form; cruelty, to any being…is intolerable. It is up to the consumer, to say, “That’s not entertainment…that’s torture; animalcircuses are cruel; animal-circuses are for selfish-profit; and, I will not participate, in these kinds of activities.” The standards of animal-care, in too many circuses, are inadequate; they are not completely-enforced; and, may be ignored, entirely. Even with multiple citations, animal-circuses may remain in business. Please, boycott: circuses-that-use-and-abuse-animals. There are circuses, that do not use animals; all circuses should be that way. Join with me, to end: the abuse of animals; and, the selfish profit of their abusers. If you purchase a ticket, to an animal-circus; you are supporting cruelty, …please don’t. Following, is a list of circuses, that do not use animals, and should be supported:

This homemade vegan butter takes 5 minutes, including clean up. The soy free vegan butter is equally delicious. Ingredients: 1 cup original soy or coconut milk 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 tsp salt 1 3/4 cup (14 oz jar) refined coconut oil (unrefined will have a coconut flavor) 3 tbsp canola oil 2 tbsp soy lecithin granules or 1 tbsp sunflower lecithin or 5 tsp agar agar powder 1/4 tsp xantham gum Directions: Add vinegar and salt to the milk. Stir. Allow this to curdle for 5-10 minutes. If using soy lecithin granules, grind into a powder. A mortar and pestle is easiest, but a small electric grinder is fine too. The coconut oil is easiest to measure when it’s melted. Place in a sunny window or warm in a pot filled with water (placing jar inside pot) on the stove. Refined coconut oil does not have the lingering flavor of coconut. Place the ingredients in a blender. Blend at high speed for 2 minutes. For “sticks of butter, pour into a silicon mold, place on a cookie sheet (because the mold is not steady and cleaning up spilled butter is not fun) and place in the freezer for about an hour. Store in the refrigerator or leave at room temperature, depending on preference. If this recipe is too large, simply freeze what will not be used within a week or two.

Two of the best things at keeping our attention are our love relationships and highly gripping novels. Eating vegan, for all the ways that it benefits us, had yet to fully tap into these great human "attention zones"--until now. For most people, it is only when someone we love's well-being is threatened that we finally start to perk up and pay attention to the situation, even if the actions which led to their near-demise have been going on for years. And at the same time, have you seen the way someone who is caught in a riveting novel acts, sliding into their hideaways to soak up one more compelling page of the story? Each one of the hundreds of millions of people who face preventable inflammatory degenerative conditions is someone's child, parent, or significant other, and their conditions is due mostly to meat and artificial processed sweeteners which are subsidized with ties back to the meat industry. In those love relationships involving people at risk or on the brink with diet-related sickness, think about how much latent attention there is that could shift onto our food choices. I began my genre of writing by asking, what if we could focus that human attention onto encouraging individuals' and society's dietary practices that would achieve the fulfilling health outcomes we want for the people we love the most? What we need is to link love relationships to an engaging character-based narrative novel about diet and healing. What was missing became obvious in 2012 when I started on a mission: the healthy vegan novel. I had 8 years behind me already in research and a career working every day to help people make the vegan transition, both at holistic health centers like the Tree of Life, where all the food is vegan, organic, and much of it is veganically grown without manure, and in my private wellness practice. I had also completed a 220-person survey for my master's degree with my advisor, Dr. Gabriel Cousens, MD, MD(H), about the mental attitudes and emotions that are seen in people who successfully transition their diet and lifestyle to vegan and achieve satisfying natural healing outcomes. The field of transitioning to healthy veganism has been the center of my professional attention for more than an entire decade-plus, and, I have helped produce and release a successful documentary film on the reversing of type 2 diabetes naturally with whole, unprocessed, organic, and raw vegan foods, as well as using mental and emotional healing. SINCE THE DAWN OF HUMANITY, there remains a group so persistently abused and marginalized, that their suffering is ingrained in our everyday lives. If animals could freely talk, their chorus of cries would drown out every other sound in the world. We are all animals. We are all living, breathing beings who share the same Earth. We all feel pain and suffer when we are hurt or deprived of our lives, our families, our freedom. We all have the right to experience kindness, compassion and dignity. We believe in the kinship of all beings, and the possibility for us to coexist in peace and harmony on planet Earth.

CONSIDERING that all living beings on planet Earth came originally from the same source, and follow the same evolutional principles; CONSIDERING that all living beings on planet Earth inhabit the same lands, seas and air, and therefore share them and their resources to live within, and to live off of, comprising one ecological system; CONSIDERING that all living beings possess the same basic needs: to survive, to seek happiness and pleasure and avoid pain, to live comfortably, to procreate, create families and other social structures; CONSIDERING that all living beings, as known to humankind, are sentient beings, and therefore can feel pain, pleasure, sensations, feelings and emotions; CONSIDERING that the human species is only one of millions of animal species, and comprises a minute minority in number, compared to the billions of animals living on this planet; WE HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT: 1. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all beings are created equal, and have a right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of their Happiness. 2.

Therefore, all animals have the same natural right to exist, as any other living being.

3.

All animals have the right to be free, to live their lives on their own terms, as intended by nature.

4. All animals have the right to eat, sleep, be physically and psychologically comfortable, be mobile, healthy, safe, and fulfill all their natural and essential needs. As such, all animals are to be free from hunger, thirst, and malnutrition; physical discomfort and exhaustion; confinement against their will, bad treatment, abusive or cruel actions; pain, injury and disease; fear and distress; and free to express their normal patterns of behavior. 5. All animals have the right to reproduce, live with their offspring, families, tribes or communities, and maintain a natural social life. They have the right to live in their natural environment, grow to a rhythm natural to their species, and maintain a life that corresponds to their natural longevity. 6. Animals are not the property or commodity of humans, and are not theirs to use for their benefit or sustenance. Therefore, they are to be free from slavery, exploitation, oppression, victimization, brutality, abuse, and any other treatment that disregards their safety, own free will and dignity. They should not be slaughtered for food, killed for their skins, experimented on, killed for religious purposes, used for forced labor, abused and killed for sport and entertainment, abused for commercial profit, hunted, persecuted or exterminated for human pleasure, need, or other ends. 7. Humans shall do whatever is within their means to protect all animals. Any animal who is dependent on a human, has the right to proper sustenance and care, and shall not be neglected, abandoned, or killed. 8. Animals who have died must be treated with respect and dignity, as humans are. 9. We call for the protection of these rights. They must be recognized and defended by law, as human rights are. Any act which compromises the wellbeing or survival of an animal or species, or jeopardizes, contradicts, or deprives an animal or species of the rights listed above, should be deemed a crime, and should be punished accordingly.

IN WITNESS THEREOF, this Declaration is hereby signed today, Sunday, June 5th 2011, The First National Animal Rights Day, in the City of New York, The United States of America.

Cont’d from page 16‌ The novel I wrote, Sweet Healing: A Whole Health Journey, to reach a wider audience, is based on the transitional lifestyle practices, emotions, and mental attitudes most commonly seen in going vegan and a personal growth path that embraces the natural lifestyle change of whole, unprocessed, organic vegan foods. This holistic vegan journey can have bumps in the road. Yet afterwards it can also bring you to the sweet "mountaintops" of knowing your own being as sensationally empowered in your body, words, thoughts, and actions, since you have seen your choices cause your body to shift to a physiology of vibrancy and vitality. One of the main reasons people have exhilarating experiences when the power of plant foods and a cleared mind works for them is that they get to release the trapped emotion of fear--a fear that they wouldn't get to live long enough, or be healthy enough, to be there with their loved ones. We all know that bold moves are nearly impossible when we are paralyzed by fear. That's why the narrative in Sweet Healing starts with allowing people to relate to and see that their unspeakable fear is shared and understood, so that the fear of that starts to dissolve away. Today, people have been presenting vegan information for a long time, yet for an even longer time, meaningful narratives about love, adventure, heroism, and coming home a winner are what have always enlivened information into action. Personal meanings and relationships are what lift knowledge about health tips, menus, and meal plans off of the page, and into the sphere of living where you play out your personal narrative. When you access the personal meaning and value behind the possibility of becoming a healthy vegan, you can start to tell the story you want to tell in your life! As a dedicated supporter of people transitioning to veganism for over twelve years, through the ups and downs and the forwards and backwards of this rewarding path, I have seen what is required of us to move through the skepticism, desires, and resistances that almost inevitably will arise. The walk into healthy vegan living is as adventurous as any dramatic play in human experience, and when the adventure, the homecoming, and the return of love in the body and soul is captured in narrative format, it is equally, if not more, captivating as any thriller. Through identifying, relating to, and connecting the narrative we want to tell, we can change our story, and change our life. That is why great epics, even the Odyssey, have love and adventure as the purest human themes. In Sweet Healing: A Whole Health Journey, love, adventure, and the desire to come home through the fog are tied to healthy veganism. Please read Sweet Healing and get it for loved ones at www.vegannovel.com

The educateDUcare program, will be launched, in the Fall of 2016, by: Reverend (author and vegan activist) Nancy Arenas. The educateDUcare program, is a social-development program; it utilizes: facts; compassion; diet; & empathy (as tools, to effect social change). educateDUcare is an in-school residency, designed for every child, regardless of background or experience. The objective, is to build: social consciousness; self-reliance; and, a sense of self-worth …in children (through the practice of: self-compassion; and, compassion for others). Engaging in educateDUcare focuses children’s energies, to a holistically-healthy way of life; and, increases a child’s understanding of connections to: people; animals; the world; and, the universe. A major goal, of the program, is to diminish human-disconnectedness, in every relationship (i.e., self; humans; animals; government; mother-earth; the realm beyond death; etc.). I feel compelled to begin this program, with children; because, (it is true, as we have all heard), children are our future. educateDUcare teaches people how to accept and fulfill their most basic responsibilities, (i.e., to transcend the many superficial-distractions). It explains the consequences, of careless-actions. It encourages participants, to see the value, of all living things. And, it reveals our inherent…”interconnection.” Over the past few decades, our society has become increasingly aware, of the link, between abuse-toward-animals, and abuse-toward-people. Therefore, the need to promote kindness and empathy, through effective humane education, in our communities, is greater than ever. Furthermore, encouraging a deeper consideration, of the humane choices, available to us in our daily lives, will: lessen animal suffering; promote healthier diets; purify the environment; and, create a more peaceful world. With the right knowledge and resources …anyone can make better choices. If you would like to learn more about this program, please contact us at: welcome22day@gmail.com
