Skate Park Re-opens At The Barn Youth Center
Milton-Union PUblic library

The Barn Youth Center, located at 2140 N. Rench Rd. in Pleasant Hill, has updated and renovated their skate park, thanks to funds generously donated by the Miami County Foundation. Open to skate boards, BMX bikes, and scooters, the newly updated park is ready for use. Students who don’t own equipment can sign a waiver and borrow scooters, bikes, and skateboards from The Barn for free. The Barn is open to junior high students on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 7-10 p.m. and to high school students every Friday from 7-10 p.m. Follow The Barn on Instagram and Facebook for regular updates on special events and activities. Pleasant Hill ‘Lights Up the Night’ Celebration Planned July 3 ••• Vendors sought ••• The Village of Pleasant Hill “Lights Up the Night” Celebration will take place Saturday, July 3, at the Newton Township Soccer Fields. In collaboration with community partners, the Pleasant Hill Village Council is planning a “Lights Up the Night” as part of their July 4th Celebration, which will consist of a parade, fireworks, car show, live music, local vendors, and food and drinks. Paige Boehringer Named To Spring Dean’s List At Ohio Dominican Paige Boehringer of Covington has been named to Ohio Dominican University’s spring semester Dean’s List. In order to achieve this honor, fulltime undergraduate students must have achieved a 3.5 GPA or better after taking a minimum of 12 credit hours. Ohio Dominican is located in Columbus.
Graham Thornburg Named to Dean’s List At Olivet Nazarene Graham Thornburg of Covington has been named to the Dean’s List at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. To qualify for inclusion on the Dean’s List a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and attained a semester GPA of 3.50 higher on a 4.00 grading scale.
Laura Fire Dept. Receives Life-Saving Grain Rescue Equipment & Training Nationwide’s Safety Program Awards 41 Rescue Tubes to First Responders On May 13, the Laura Fire Dept. was awarded a grain rescue tube and specialized training to help protect against grain bin entrapments in the area. The resources are being provided by Nationwide, Graves Fearon Agency, and the Miami County Ohio Farm Bureau through Nationwide’s Grain Bin Safety advocacy campaign, which has delivered grain rescue tubes and hands-on training to 152 rural fire departments across 29 states since 2014. To deliver the resources, Nationwide partners with the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) to train first responders in a grain simulator. At least four grain rescue tubes provided through the campaign have been used to save lives of farmers trapped in grain bins. Every year, thousands of farmers and commercial grain handlers risk their lives by entering grain bins to remove clumped or rotted grain. As rural communities have come to know all too well, an accident in a grain bin can quickly turn deadly. In just seconds, adults can sink to their waist in flowing grain, rendering them completely trapped without the proper rescue devices. These accidents result in dozens of lost lives each year, and deaths have spiked in 2019 and early 2020 due to the wet harvest. “We began our Grain Bin Safety campaign in 2014 to support the agriculture community and put an end to avoidable deaths from individuals entering grain bins without recognizing the dangers and taking precautions,” said Brad Liggett, president of Nationwide Agribusiness. “Thanks to the generous and increasing support of our partners, I’m extremely proud to say that we’re providing more rescue tubes and training to first responders this year than we have ever before.”
