CONSULTATION

Bradford Public Library will be hosting their 2nd Soup Swap on Saturday, March 13, from 11 a.m.-noon. Participants must sign up at the library to attend. When you sign up, please pick up your containers and recipe card. Simply make your soup at home, package it in the containers provided, and bring it in with your recipe the day of the swap. Then the fun begins! Swappers will take turns choosing the soups they want to take home. You will take home the same amount of soup you bring in. We recommend bringing in at least four quarts. Participants will also go home with a recipe booklet containing all the soups that were brought in that day. This is a great opportunity to put some soup back for those chilly days in late winter/early spring. Participation is limited to 10 cooks, so don’t wait to sign up! Social distancing guidelines will be followed and participants will be asked to wear a facial covering. If you have questions about this event, please call the library at 937-448-2612.

The West Milton Lions Club will sponsor a community blood drive Wednesday, March 3, 1-7 p.m., at the West Milton United Church of Christ, 108 S. Main St. Everyone who registers to donate gets the new “Donor Shenanigans” T-shirt, plus free COVID-19 antibody testing. Make an appointment at www.DonorTime.com or call 937-4613220. March is St. Patrick’s Day month and donors can get in the green with the new “Donor Shenanigans” T-shirt, available March 1 thru 27. Community Blood Center is calling 2021 “Blood Donor Year” because of the impact of COVID-19 restrictions and winter weather cancellations on blood collection. CBC is challenging all who are able to donate at least three times in 2021. The goal of the “Fight. Heal. Give.” campaign is to encourage COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma donations, especially from new donors. Learn more about donating CCP and register at ccp.givingblood.org and make an appointment at 937-461-3220 There is no deferral or delay in making a regular blood donation after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. CCP donors who have received the COVID-19 vaccine may be eligible to continue donating CCP. To confirm your eligibility e-mail canidonate@givingblood.org or call 937-461-3220.

COVINGTON PANCAKE DAY IS MARCH 20 The Covington Noon Optimist Club will be holding a DriveThru Pancake Day on Saturday, March 20, to benefit the youth programs of our community which the Optimist Club supports. 2021 marks the 56th annual Pancake Day event in Covington, which was originally started by the Kiwanis Club in 1965. Due to pandemic restrictions, this year’s event will be drive-thru only, and serving hours will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year’s pancake breakfast will be by donation only; no tickets will be sold at the door or ahead of time. It will again be held at the Covington K-8 school building, and the drive-thru will be in the bus loop. And as always, all proceeds from Pancake Day stay in the Covington community to benefit the youth of the village. The Covington Noon Optimist Club, begun in 1985 and meeting every Wednesday at noon at the Covington Eagles Aerie #3998, is marking its 36th year as a “Friend of Youth” to Covington kids. In addition to generous contributions to the CHS Scholarship Fund Program, the Noon Optimists sponsor numerous other youth events. This includes recurring support of the annual Oratorical Contest, Halloween Costume Contest, High School Honors Banquet, the P.L.U.S. organization, the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference for CHS students, Covington music programs, and numerous other donations to worthy Covington youth-oriented causes. Pancake Day would not be possible without the continued generous support of numerous Covington area businesses whose sponsorship will be visible on the placemats. These folks were so kind to make their donations for 2020’s Pancake Day, before the beginning of the pandemic abruptly cancelled the event last March. Thank you to the Covington Eagles Aerie #3998 for their generosity as the major sponsor again this year. In addition to each business who is a placemat sponsor, the printing of the placemats is sponsored by The Covington Savings & Loan Association, sausage is sponsored by Sprankle’s Butcher Shop, and the pancake batter sponsors are Littman-Thomas Insurance Agency and Moore Funeral Home. The Optimist Club invites all Covington and surrounding area residents to join them for golden brown pancakes to continue the strong support of our youth in the Covington community.

bradford public library eliminates overdue Fines The Bradford Public Library is pleased to announce we are eliminating overdue fines starting March 1. This will be a temporary service through the end of the calendar year. We know that many of our patrons have been struggling as a result of the pandemic and we want to ease some of the burden for you. This move ensures that our public library is living up to its commitment to provide free and equal access to information, knowledge, independent learning, and the joys of reading for our community. For the remainder of 2021, items that are returned late will not have an overdue fine charged. Items that have been “lost” by a patron will be welcomed back as long as they are not damaged, and any overdue fines associated with those items will be waived. In addition, if a patron comes in to Bradford Public Library and has past overdue fines on their account, those fines will be waived. Please note that this only applies to overdue fines, and not replacement costs for lost or damaged items. Our Food for Fines Campaign will continue through the year, offering patrons a chance to eliminate their fees associated with lost items. Each non-perishable item will eliminate $1 from your replacement costs. We will waive fees for one lost item per month. All food collected is taken to the Bradford Resource Center and will be distributed to Bradford residents in need. We are providing this as a service to our wonderful patrons and community as a way to say thank you for your support through the years and especially through this past year. We want everyone in the community to have the opportunity to start fresh and have access to our material and services. As always, if you have questions about this service, we encourage you to call the library at 937-448-2612. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Updates on J.r. clarke Public library Move to An Alternative site during Upcoming renovations Several weeks ago, J.R. Clarke Public Library sent information to our public and patrons via newspapers, Facebook, and our website: www.jrclarkelibrary.org about the upcoming Inside Renovation Project. The Trustee Board can now confirm dates that will assist everyone in communicating the continuance of our library and business services to the surrounding communities and our patrons. The library will be closed to the public Monday thru Saturday, March 8-13. We plan on moving to our alternate location at 101-103 N. High St. during this period. The library will reopen Monday, March 15. The alternative site is on the northwest corner of High and Wright Sts. and is owned by Jeff Leininger. The many business and personal relationships through this period of transition have been fruitful and patient during this year-long planning process. The Library Renovation at 102 East Spring St. should be completed by the end of August. We all know that beginning and ending dates of projects this size depend on the weather, contractor schedules, and many other factors. There will be several changes to our daily schedule beginning March 15. JRC will be open Mondays 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Tuesdays 9 a.m - 5 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays 9 a.m.5 p.m.; and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Closed Sundays. Our Annual Summer Reading Program will take place in the newly renovated library in the fall. We want to assure our youthful readers that we will have a fun-filled Fall Reading Program for them. If you have any questions concerning the move, please contact Cherie or Mary Beth at 937-473-2226. We are looking forward to seeing you at the new site!
