Duane and Joyce Ann (Myers) Weikert of Potsdam celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on April 19. They attend the Potsdam Church of the Brethren, where they were married on a snowy day in 1953. They are church deacons and Joyce Ann is involved in the Kids’ Club ministry, choir, and FISH of Miami County. She has been a member of the Potsdam Town Council and served on the Miami County Central Committee and the Board of Elections for many years. Duane is involved with hospitality at the church and welcomes members and guests every Sunday morning. He is retired from General Motors Delco Moraine. They are the parents of three children – Pat and Rhonda Weikert, Potsdam; Claudette and Steve Post, Potsdam; and Pam and Todd Cota, Troy. They also have nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Don and Barbara (Estep) Hiser were married April 28, 1968, at First Lutheran Church in Tiffin, Ohio. Don is a retired Director of Health and Sanitation for the City of Piqua. Barbara is a retired Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant for Miami County Surgeons. The Hisers enjoy their retirement by spending time with family and friends, traveling, volunteering, and working on their property. They celebrated their anniversary with a trip to Florida with their daughter Heather, son-in-law Justin, and grandson Harrison.

Alas… I Think It’s Spring! This year will go down as the longest winter in Ohio history. This weather has affected everything and everyone. Businesses were shouting from the rooftops for the sun to shine and warm weather. Most of April was cold and wet. Our page count was more than thin. But now I stand tall and shout: “Hooray!” This will be our first 16-page edition for 2018. Spring has finally arrived. I know this for sure, because my children are busy, too. Kelly (daughter number one and her husband David) prepared their trailer for the summer on Lake Cumberland this weekend. Jennifer (daughter number two and her husband Tim) continue their quest with four young grandchildren. JR (son number one and his wife Lainie) have two softball games under their belts with Ella (our youngest granddaughter). As you can tell, they’re all in full swing with their own families. Meanwhile, Ginger and I check the calendar daily to see where we might go next. I’m positive that your family is just like ours. You try to make your time stretch, but you know that everyone has only 24 hours in a day. You just can’t make it to everything. So, you do the next best thing. You go where you can, when you can, and you try to keep everyone happy. That’s all any of us can manage. And in between all this scheduling Ginger and I squeeze in our own trips, work, classes, and recreation. Try to accomplish this in one week. Most of our friends and family know that Ginger and I have given traveling top priority. We love our kids, their kids, and their kids, but traveling (for us) is very special and we love making new memories together. We’ve been to many places. Seen marvelous cities and things. We’ve certainly been blessed. Yesterday, Ginger and I hosted the 15th birthday for our youngest grandson, Trey Godfrey. We had a wonderful meal, with lots of desserts. Trey was happy with his gifts and family members.

This week’s boTTom line: Forget about the past, you can't change it. Forget about the future, you can't predict it. Forget about the present, I didn't get you one.

Miami Co. Sheriff’s Office Requests Citizens’ Help in Murder Investigation The Miami County Sheriff’s Office announces the identification of Jane Doe found in 1981. She was found hours after she was killed by strangulation and blunt force trauma. Jane Doe, who became known as Buckskin Doe because of the coat she was wearing, was found on Greenlee Rd. in Miami County on April 24, 1981. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has taken advantage of new technology and investigative techniques as they have become available over the past 37 years. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children worked with the Sheriff’s Office to offer resources that would help with the investigation. NCMEC created a facial reconstruction in 2016 of what Jane Doe may have looked like. On April 9 Jane Doe was positively identified as Marcia L. King. Marcia, who was 21 years old at the time of her death, was from Arkansas. Investigators believe that Marcia may have had ties to Kentucky, Arkansas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania shortly before her murder. Miami County Sheriff’s office has worked tirelessly to identify Marcia and they are now moving forward with a homicide investigation.
