Members of the Covington Bucc Boosters and Covington Optimist Club are joining forces to co-sponsor an event that will help support the development of youth in their community. This Bucc Bash is planned for Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Covington Eagles from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The evening will include both a silent and live auction, a 50/50 drawing, pull tabs, other games and prizes, hors d’oeuvres, and a bake sale. You must register to participate. Only the first 350 registrations will be accepted. Cut-off date is Friday, Sept. 24. There is a cost to attend to attend this fundraiser. Covington-Newberry Historical Museum To Be Open Labor Day Weekend The Covington-Newberry Historical Museum, located at 101 E. Spring St., will be OPEN for Labor Day Weekend – on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. and Monday, Labor Day, from noon until 3 p.m. Stop by and see the many displays and artifacts in the air conditioned building. A local food truck is also planning to be at the museum. Make weekend plans to enjoy the Fort Rowdy festivities at the Covington Community Park and visit us at the museum!

Hoffman UM Church Seeks Information On Local Vets for Veteran’s Day Program A special Veteran’s Day program honoring all Union Township veterans and their families will take place Saturday, Nov. 13, at Hoffman United Methodist Church in West Milton. The program will take place at 2 p.m. and everyone is invited. A video will be created to go along with stories submitted for each veteran featured. Organizers are asking anyone wanting to include family members to send pictures and stories, branch of service, and years served as soon as possible. Your pictures will be returned to you. Spelling Bee DetailS The Old Fashioned Spelling Bee Divisions will be children going into grades 3-6, then grades 7 -12 and adults combined. This is a not-to-be-missed event! Kids love the Spelling Bees, which encourage fortitude, grit and confidence in those who participate! The Spelling Bee will include chalkboards, chalk, washcloth erasers and a variety of words, especially chosen for those specific age groups! Ms. Roeth, Covington’s J.R. Clarke Library’s Director, will lead and encourage all participants to “spell out-loud, so others can hear you!” We will also be using those new-fangled microphones to help everyone in the crowd hearken to our superb spellers! Winners in all categories will receive the new Fort Rowdy Medallion, especially crafted for this Labor Day weekend! Word sheets used to begin each age division may be picked up at J. R. Fort Rowdy Encampment will also be holding an Ohio Pioneer History Bee! The questions for the History Bee will be from histories of Miami/Darke Counties and the Village of Covington and surrounding area. There will be two divisions for this bee: Children going into grades 7-12 and adults (ages 18 and over). If you are interested, please see the local history books in the J.R. Clarke Alcove or refer to the websites below. In order to narrow down the time-period, most questions are from 1800’s through the the Great Depression. Piqua-Caldwell Historic District Plans Covington HS Athletic Dept. Announces Scavenger Hunt Saturday, Aug. 28 Availability & Pricing for Fall Sport Tickets
NEED HELP With Food or Financial assistance?
During the quarantine last year, the Piqua-Caldwell Historic District (PCHD) had the idea to host a scavenger hunt as a way to safely get families outdoors for some fun. The event was such a success, the PCHD Association has decided to host once again this summer. Hunters will be searching for 16 specific architectural features found on homes or business properties within the district. Hunters can pick up their map at 528 N Downing Street in Piqua between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Aug. 28. Everyone who finds all 16 elements can return their map to the same location to be eligible for a drawing of several $25 gift cards. There is no charge to participate, but there will be a freewill donation box available for anyone who wishes to help defray costs for the day. Reserve seat and season tickets for the 2021 Covington High School fall sports season are now on sale. Those who held football reserve seats in the past or want to buy seats may purchase their tickets at the high school anytime during business hours (8:00-3:30pm). Fall sports passes, good for all junior high and high school fall sports activities (regular season home events only) will also be available for purchase. Fall sports pass prices are: $80 for adults and $40 for students. Reserve seat ticket prices for varsity football are $40 for adults.
