Antoinette Bridal Boutique recently opened its doors at 19 N. Center St. in Versailles. The new store provides an intimate, boutique experience with avant garde looks at a modest price. Antoinette offers bridal gowns, formal wear, menswear, and accessories, as well as concierge beauty and styling services. Co-owners and Versailles residents Heidi DeMange and Allison Cox set out to create a destination for wedding parties looking for a more personal bridal shopping experience. The owners leveraged their experience in fashion, beauty, and marketing to curate a collection that has timeless and unique bridal gowns around the $1,000-$2,000 price point. Not only do they provide bridal attire, but the boutique is a certified salon, offering everything from sunless tanning to bridal hair and make-up styling. The store’s upstairs area has been designed into a bridal lounge for larger appointments and tux fittings, complete with a pool table, piano, and refrigerator for refreshments. At Antoinette, wedding parties can also rent the space for bridal showers and wedding preparations the morning of their event and the Antoinette team will steam and prep gowns, coordinate hair and beauty services, and provide music and anything else your party would need before walking down the aisle. Marias Technology/Orestod Project Update Covington residents are excited and curious to know how the Marias Technology/Orestod Project is progressing. Siding abatement began November 25 at 24 N. High St., and a construction fence went up around the entire project on the 27th. Demolition began on 12-24 N. High St. December 2 and will continue through the end of the year. Construction of the new building is not scheduled to begin until tentatively April or May. Demolition of the six buildings is starting now because renovation of the Dime Store at 10 N. High needs to begin. The public should expect to see the site for the new building sit as empty lots without activity for many months. There were rumors and miscommunication during the delay in the start of the Casey’s project. Residents were unsure if the project was even going to proceed. However, a project of this magnitude takes a lot of time to come together. Construction drawings and other engineering work continues on the new building. It is hoped to have it ready to go out to bid mid-winter, with construction to commence mid- to late-spring. Marias Technology continues to hire new staff members and will use a portion of the Dime Store for their staff until the new building is completed. An agreement is in place to lease half of the front of the Dime Store to Swift Gilly Boutique. As soon as drawings are completed and permits are approved, work will start on the Dime Store. This will be an very in-depth renovation with structural work, exterior work, all new glass, doors, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. It is hoped this can begin sometime in January. When the Haines family first acquired Marias Technology, it established Orestod Holdings as a holding company for its real estate and other investments. Since then, Orestod has added the seven buildings to the west of the Marias building, facing High St. Orestod also has acquired the Newberry Township Building and established the Newberry Theater Preservation Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to bring the theater and the rest of the building back to life. Orestod’s current plans: • Demolish six of the seven buildings that inspections deemed unsalvageable. • Construct a 26,000 square foot, three-story building adjacent to the Marias building, with 6,500 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 17,000 square feet of office space on the second floor. The first floor space will be home to Glacier View Coffee, which is an Orestod company as well, with the other portion of the first floor being relegated to restaurant space. • Renovate the Dime Store building into another 4,000 square feet of retail space, of which 2,900 square feet has already been leased. The remaining 1,100 square feet is available for lease. This is an exciting time for the Village of Covington, and every effort will be made to keep residents informed of the progress being made on the Marias Technology/Orestod Project.

Merry Christmas & Best Wishes for the New Year to All Our Neighbors & Friends in the Community
www.arenspub.com
West Milton Fire Chief Dennis Frantz To Retire as of Midnight December 31 Chief Dennis Frantz joined the West Milton Fire Department October 23, 1969, and quickly progressed through the ranks of 1st Class Firefighter, 2nd Lt. – January 1, 1974 - December 31, 1975; 1st Lt. – January 1. 1976 - December 31, 1977; Captain – January 1, 1978 - December 31, 1984; Assistant Chief January 1, 1985 - December 31, 1988; and then becoming Chief January 1, 1989, serving as Chief a total of 30 years, the longest serving Chief, as the average of all other Chiefs is 10 years. Denny joined the West Milton Fire Department in 1969, following in his father's footsteps. Denny's father, Joe, became West Milton's Fire Chief in 1974 and retired in 1985 after serving 26 years. Denny became Chief in 1989. As you can imagine, the fire service has changed drastically over 50 years and Denny led the way. In 1969, firemen wore Nomex Arimid coats with pull up boots, riding to fire calls on the tail boards, with demand-type air masks stored in compartments on the trucks. Now, firefighters wear fire-resistant coats and bunker pants with positive pressure air masks in each seat. West Milton bought their first aerial platform from Vandalia in 1996. The truck was a 1972, 75 foot articulated boom snorkel. The snorkel was used until 2005 when it was replaced with a used 1988 102 foot Grumman ladder tower purchased from Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Maintenance on that truck became an issue and in 2018 the fire company went looking for another used ladder to replace it. They found a 2009 105 foot ladder for sale in Flower Mound, Texas. Several firemen inspected the truck and recommended that the village buy it. The truck was delivered in January of this year. Today, firefighters have positive pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus, thermal cameras, carbon monoxide monitors, and hydraulicand battery-operated extrication equipment. The West Milton Fire Department answers an average of 180 calls each year, with 35 volunteer members. Most people don't know that about 70 percent of America's firefighters are volunteers, and 85 percent of the nation's fire departments are all or mostly volunteer. The smallest communities — those with fewer than 10,000 residents — are almost always served by volunteer departments. Volunteer firefighters serve their communities with little or no pay, dropping whatever they are doing (work, family, etc.) to respond from wherever they are to help a neighbor or total stranger. All of the fire departments in Union Township - Miami County are volunteer (Ludlow Falls, Laura, and West Milton). Denny will be honored for his 50 years of service to the community in January.
