Dear Valued Customers, These are uncertain times for all of us. Life as we know it has temporarily been put on hold. Until the time comes when the coronavirus is just a horrible memory, we all must accept that food and other products normally available to us on our grocery shelves may not be available for the foreseeable future. We here at Patty’s IGA are doing our very best to keep our shelves stocked, but we are at the mercy of our suppliers, who are also facing this crisis. That is why we are not publishing our regular sales ad this week. We just don’t know what is going to be available over the next few weeks. We ask you to bear with us as we do the best we can to provide you and your loved ones with the necessities of life such as paper products, meat, milk, bread, and all the other products we have always been able to provide for your family. They say you don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone. Right now all of us are appreciating the days when we could shop at any store and find what we wanted on the shelves. Right now, that’s just not possible. We assure you that we here at Patty’s IGA look forward to getting things back to normal just as much as you do, and hope you understand our situation. Thank You for Your Support, The Staff at Patty’s IGA

Look for changes in Retirement Plans It might not have made the headlines, but a recently passed piece of legislation could affect the IRAs and 401(k)s of millions of Americans beginning in 2020. So, if you have either of these accounts, or if you run a business, you’ll want to learn more. The new laws, collectively called the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act, include these noteworthy changes: `• HigHer age for rMD’s – Under current law, Vicki L. BLei you must start taking withdrawals – known as edward Jones required minimum distributions, or RMD’s – from your traditional IRA and 401(k) or similar Financial Advisor employer-sponsored plan once you turn 70½. The new law pushes the date to start RMD’s to 72, which means you can hold on to your retirement savings a bit longer. • No age liMit for traDitioNal ira coNtributioNs – Previously, you could only contribute to your traditional IRA until you were 70½, but under
the SECURE Act, you can now fund your traditional IRA for as long as you have taxable earned income. • liMitatioN of “stretcH ira” provisioNs – Under the old rules, beneficiaries were able to stretch taxable RMD’s from a retirement account over his or her lifetime. Under the SECURE Act, while spouse beneficiaries can still take advantage of this “stretch” distribution, most non-spouse beneficiaries will have to take all the RMD’s by the end of the 10th year after the account owner passes away. Consequently, non-spouse beneficiaries who inherit an IRA or other retirement plan could have tax implications due to the need to take larger distributions in a shorter timeframe. • No early witHDrawal peNalty for ira’s & 401(k)’s wHeN New cHilD arrives – Typically, you must pay a 10% penalty when you withdraw funds from your IRA or 401(k) before you reach 59½. But now, with the new rules, you can withdraw up to $5,000 from your retirement plan without paying the early withdrawal penalty, as long as you take the money within one year of a child being born or an adoption becoming final. Some provisions of the SECURE Act primarily affect business owners: • Multi-eMployer retireMeNt plaNs – Unrelated companies can now work together to offer employees a 401(k) plan with less administrative work, lower costs, and fewer fiduciary responsibilities than individual employers now encounter when offering their own retirement plans. • tax creDit for autoMatic eNrollMeNt – The new law provides a tax credit of $500 for some smaller employers who set up automatic enrollment in their retirement plans. And a tax credit for establishing a retirement plan has been increased from $500 to $5,000. • use of aNNuities iN 401(k) plaNs – It will now be easier for employers to consider including annuities as an investment option within 401(k) plans. Previously, many businesses avoided offering annuities in these plans due to liability concerns related to the annuity provider, but the new rules should help reduce these concerns. The SECURE Act is the most significant change to our retirement savings system in over a decade. We encourage you to contact your financial advisor, tax professional, and estate planning attorney to assess the potential impact on your investment strategies and determine any possible tax and estate planning implications of the SECURE Act. Agriculture and the Economy that can serve as the foundation of a healthy nation. Earning a living in agriculture strengthens purchasing power, which fuels other markets. Eventually, farming can pave the way for development, including roads, markets, shipping services,
Though it’s easy to look at the tech industry and think this increasingly influential sector is what makes the world go round, something closer to the very core of the Earth may be what’s driving your economy. The agricultural sector plays a strategic role in a nation’s economic development and prosperity. From the earliest days, agriculture has been heralded as playing a crucial role in North American culture. Farmers who grow produce and raise livestock for meats and other products have long exemplified what it means to work hard and take initiatives to be self-sufficient. The symbiotic nature of agriculture and the economy is noticeable when examining the ups and downs of each. This is because food production and the potential of agriculture extends beyond the fields and local food stands. These resources impact supply chains and other markets. A strong agriculture base influences other employment sectors like food manufacturing, biotechnology, hospitality, machinery building, and much more, while a weak agriculture can adversely affect those sectors. While it can be difficult for residents of developed nations to visualize agriculture’s effect, one only needs to turn to impoverished and developing nations to see just how big an impact agriculture can have on an economy. Agriculture provides food and raw materials, eventually creating demand for goods produced in non-agricultural sectors. Also, food provides nutrition

Coronavirus Fears Put Local Blood Supply at Risk ~ CbC Urging Donors to Make & Keep Appointments to Donate ~ Community Blood Center is facing blood drive cancellations out of fear of the coronavirus outbreak and is calling on donors to help prevent a blood shortage by continuing to donate. At this time a growing number of sponsors have cancelled CBC blood drives or changed locations, citing temporary measures to guard against the coronavirus. There is not a current blood shortage in CBC’s 15-county region of western Ohio and eastern Indiana, but CBC warns supply could change dramatically. “We are facing a serious challenge to our local blood supply,” said CBC Chief Operating Officer Jodi Minneman. “As coronavirus fears intensify and more blood drives cancel, we risk a significant decrease in donations. Our blood supply is safe, and it is safe to donate. The coronavirus does not pose any known risk to blood donors during the donation process or from attending blood drives. People must continue to donate. We ask that you please make appointments to donate and keep them.” Donors are urged to make an appointment online at www.Donortime.com or call 937-461-3220. Minneman said CBC must constantly replenish the blood supply to its regional hospitals. Red blood cells commonly used in emergencies and surgeries have only a 42-day shelf life. Platelet cells used for clotting wounds and treating cancer patients have only a three-day shelf life after testing. CBC is emphasizing and enforcing its fundamental procedures to protect donors, staff, and the blood supply: Donors must be in good health to be eligible to donate. People with any cough or cold symptoms should not come to a blood drive. According to the FDA there have been no reported cases of coronavirus transmission through blood transfusion in this outbreak or any recent outbreaks. To operate with an abundance of caution, CBC is increasing hygienic and sanitary procedures. While blood drives may bring together groups of people, they are not mass gatherings. They are controlled events using appropriate infection control mechanisms to assure the safety of the donors, staff, and blood products. As more cases of coronavirus have been reported in the region, CBC is increasing its preparedness appropriately. CBC will continue to monitor the outbreak and will provide additional updates as blood needs change. Blood donation requirements: Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at CBC branch and blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds (you may have to weigh more, depending on your height), and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions are invited to email canidonate@cbccts.org or call 1-800-388-GIVE. Make an appointment at www.Donortime.com.
