Although, for the time being, you won’t be able to sit down and enjoy a meal at your favorite restaurant, most places welcome and NEED your take-out business. By patronizing them Now, you’ll make it possible for them to re-open their doors once the CoVID-19 crisis is over. Continue to have maintenance done on your vehicles, have your lawn care service keep your grass weed-free and thriving, have outdoor construction projects completed, and keep up your provisions by shopping at local places of business. By taking the precautions outlined by the government, you can safely shop. It is recommended that when replenishing your food supply, only one member of the family do the shopping. we all need to do our part in keeping our local businesses solvent and able to serve us again once this crisis has passed!

Sharing happy thoughtS During troubLing timeS
!
Turning on the TV news and reading newspaper headlines these days is “distressing and depressing.” We’re living in a time that none of us could have foreseen. Bad things have always happened, of course, but usually it was to “someone else” living “somewhere else.” But the fact is... This bad thing is happening to ALL of us, no matter where we live, no matter how hard we try to do the right thing. But, it’s not all bad. We are sure many of you have uplifting, encouraging stories you could share with our readers. Perhaps, if you’re a shut-in, you have a neighbor who checks on you daily to see if you have enough provisions to see you through this. if you’re considered an “essential” employee and must go to your job every day, maybe a thoughtful friend cares for your children while you’re working. Boredom is a problem with many families suddenly thrust together all day, every day. have you thought of a creative way to entertain your children while they’re not in school? Maybe even a way to keep them engrossed while educating them at the same time? Adults, too, find excess time spent at home leads to depression and lethargy. have you figured out a way to make your stay-at-home days more productive and less stressful? Too much togetherness can be a strain on even the happiest of families. have you figured out how to spend so much time together without getting on each other’s nerves? Maybe the memories your children will have of this terrible time will be how much they enjoyed playing board games, the meals together at the dining room table, and making crafts the whole family can work on together. We invite our readers to share ways they’ve found to cope during this period of isolation. Please tell us – in 200 words or less – how you are making the best of a very bad time in your lives. Get your children involved... we’d love to hear their thoughts, too! You can e-mail your comments to arenspub@gmail.com; mail to: Arens Corp., happy Thoughts, P.O. Box 69, Covington, Ohio 45318; or just put your submission in the drop box next to our parking lot!

Happy
THOUGHTS During this pandemic I don't have to worry about getting on anyone's nerves because I am alone, but I am finding things to do like cleaning drawers and cupboards that haven't been cleaned for a long time and working outside when the weather is nice. I start each day with reading my Bible. I'm reading thru this year (about 3 chapters per day) and I listen to Christian radio or the classical station or CD's. I also try to think of someone I can help. I've sent out 40 cards or letters and made several phone calls to others who are alone. My church family has been good to me. I've received flowers, cookies, and snacks, and several phone calls. My daughter calls me almost every day and my son brings my groceries and is here in the evenings preparing to farm when the weather is right. I try to be thankful for a nice home and family and I know God is with me because He says He will never leave us or forsake us. ~ Treva Westfall, Covington The owners of Subway in Covington are trying to spread positivity – one sandwich at a time. Jason and Pam Sommer and their team made 45 meals for those in need in the community. Pam teamed up with local churches to find people in need of these meals and help in delivering them. “I can’t describe it. It just gives me a warm feeling, knowing people out there that probably would never call or say they needed something, especially the elderly,” she explained. Pam and Jason are providing these meals for free. “This business isn’t ours. It was a gift from God. He lets me be able to work the business. It’s not ours anyway, so we need to give back,” said Pam. The couple hopes to be able to continue delivering meals at least once a week as long as there is a need.

Truthfully, I'm having a tough time. I don't see any reason why I can't run through the bank drive-thru to make a deposit, and at the same time drop off our mail through their drive-thru all in one swoop. Ginger says, “No.” I think she's turning into a warden.

The Godfreys have just finished eight days of their 14-day self-quarantine. Why? Because we recently returned from Florida and everyone says this is the way it has to be. How's it going? Ginger says it's just like any other week. I think it's like being in jail.

As far as our other employees, they are keeping the ship afloat. I have to have the best employees in the world. Thank you for your continued support. The calendar tells me I have six more days in confinement. I can go back to the office on Wednesday, April 22. I want to thank all our readers, advertisers, and first responders dealing with this awful virus. As a company, we're hanging on by a thread. As long as the advertisers hang on and our printer keeps printing, we're here for the long run. At this point, I'm more worried about the economy than the virus. The political powers have done what they can, but until we get back to the way it was, our country is in serious jeopardy. People can only stand so much confinement. If we start fighting over distances between each other, and the food supply starts to dry up, we could see out of control behavior from the masses. Breaking away from the social guidelines too fast or too slow could trigger the virus to gain strength once again. That would mean we go back to where we started. Just today, I saw that our existing guidelines could last until 2022. I really don't think we're up to that. What about the sport arenas? Will we have to sit in the seats every other one, always wearing our masks? How about restaurants? Will they have to arrange seating six feet apart? What about the mask while you're trying to enjoy a juicy steak? Will all the servers have to mask up and wear vinyl gloves? What about the kitchen and clean-up crews? Will they have to be checked for the virus daily? Supporting the restaurants is just as important as supporting the airlines. There's no way we can open up the small businesses all at once. But a gradual opening could turn into a disaster within the wink of an eye. Do we really want politicians making these decisions? I can only say this... “We all need to get on our knees and pray to God to make these decisions quickly.”

Calling all Crafters! – Help Sew Face Mask Covers –
Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County is looking to mobilize an army of crafters who can sew face mask covers to help with the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) healthcare workers are facing throughout Ohio and the nation as they treat patients with COVID-19. “Many crafters are reaching out and offering to make face mask covers,” said Amy LeVan, Director of Volunteer Services at Ohio’s Hospice. “While our healthcare professionals are using their PPE equipment thoughtfully, these homemade face mask covers may help us extend our supply of PPE if shortages continue to be a challenge.” Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County is accepting face mask covers from smoke-free and pet-free environments. These face mask covers will be used as a last resort based on current guidance. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare providers can use homemade face masks when face masks are not available. However, the CDC states that homemade face masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect healthcare providers is unknown. The homemade face masks should be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front, extending to the chin or below, and the sides of the face. The pattern is available online at:
