West Milton Lions Club Chicken BBQ Dinners Available 4th of July The West Milton Lions Club will be continuing a long tradition of offering chicken BBQ dinners on the 4th of July. The location will be moved from the City Park to the Hoffman United Methodist Church (site of Grandma's Kitchen), 201 S. Main St., West Milton. The chicken is grilled on-site that morning and the dinners will contain half a BBQ chicken, served with applesauce and chips. The Lions will provide drive-thru pick-up starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m., or until the chicken is gone. Orders may be placed in advance by calling 937-698-4171 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The Lions Club contributes to school lunches for the needy, two $500 Good Citizenship Awards to graduating Milton Seniors, eyeglasses for the underprivileged, Pilot Helper Dogs, Young Spirits, JTI, FISH, Helping Hands, Milton-Union Marching Band, and much more. Funds raised from this event support our community.

Paige Boehringer Named to Dean’s List At Ohio Dominican Ohio Dominican University, located in Columbus, named more than 400 students to its Spring Semester 2020 Dean’s List. In order to make the Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must have achieved a 3.5 GPA or better after taking a minimum of 12 credit hours. Among those so honored was Paige Boehringer, a Covington resident.

He was parked in front of the mall, wiping off his car. He had just come from the car wash and was waiting for his wife to get out of work. Coming his way, from across the parking lot, was – what society would consider – a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous, but there are other times that you just don’t want to be bothered. This was one of those “don’t want to be bothered times.” “I hope he doesn’t ask me for any money,” he thought. He didn’t. He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop, but he didn’t look like he could have enough money to even ride the bus. After a few minutes, he spoke. “That’s a very pretty car,” he said. He was ragged but he had an air of dignity about him. His scraggly blond beard kept more than his face warm. The man said “Thanks” and continued wiping off his car. He sat there quietly as the man worked. The expected plea for money never came. As the silence between them widened, something inside said, “Ask him if he needs any help.” He was sure that he would say “yes,” but he held true to the inner voice. “Do you need any help?” he asked. The bearded man answered in three simple but profound words that the man never forgot. We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from those of higher learning and accomplishments. The man expected nothing but an outstretched, grimy hand. The man spoke the three words that shook the car’s owner. “Don’t we all?” he said. The man was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a bum in the street, until those three words hit him like a 12 ga. shotgun. Don’t we all? The man needed help, maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but he needed help. He reached into his wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare, but enough to get a warm meal and shelter for the day. Those three little words still ring true. No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help, too. No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded down you are with problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give help. Even if it’s just a compliment, you can give that. You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don’t have. A different perspective on life, a glimpse at something beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you, through a torn world, can see. Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe he was more than that. Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise, to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves. Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum, then said, “Go minister to that man cleaning the car... that man needs help.”

With deepest sadness, the 2020 Fort Rowdy Gathering must be postponed until Labor Day Weekend of 2021. Due to current issues with COVID-19 and public safety for our community, volunteers, campers, and vendors, the Fort Rowdy Gathering Board of Directors felt this was the best decision. It was not made lightly, but safety for all is our number one priority. We look forward to continuing and providing an even better Fort Rowdy Gathering next year.
