Fall River Walk Memorial Set At Area Reserve
Discover Brukner Nature Center’s vista birdlife! Join members of the BNC Bird Club on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2-4 p.m., as you learn to identify our feathered friends. Enjoy the camaraderie in the third story window on wildlife. All levels of birders are welcome. Check out the feeders for the winter finches – pine siskins, purple finches, and redpolls. Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County will host its annual Fall River Walk Memorial on Sunday, Sept. 29, 3 p.m., at the Stillwater Prairie Reserve, 9750 W. S. Rt. 185, Covington. Friends and family members are invited to enjoy the beautiful walk in memory of loved ones. Each person being remembered will be honored by placing a flower in the Stillwater River during the reading of names. John DeBoer will play Native American flute music throughout the service. “The Fall River Walk Memorial is a beautiful opportunity for families to come together and enjoy a fall walk in memory of their loved ones,” said Kimberly Walker, bereavement counselor at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. “If you have lost someone close to you, we encourage you to participate in this walk.” The River Walk stretches approximately one mile along a limestone gravel path, so appropriate walking shoes are necessary. Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the walk. For more information and to register, contact the Generations of Life Community Bereavement Resource Center at 937-5732103. We are going to try again, one more time! The Tippecanoe Historical Society will be holding an Open House, this time on a Saturday, Sept. 14, from 1-3 p.m. We will have outside displays set up, so Third St. will be closed from Main to Walnut. The Third St. ramp into the Lutheran Church parking lot will be closed but the Fourth and Walnut St. entrances will be open. Susan Furlong will be present to have a book signing. She will autograph her Tipp City history books, Tippecanoe to Tipp City, The First Hundred Years and Legendary Locals of Tippecanoe to Tipp City. She will also be signing her new book, a romance novel titled Steadfast Will I Be. If the weather does not allow us to be outside, the museum will still be open. As we’ve said many times, the Stillwater Valley Advertiser is not a newspaper in the sense most think of a newspaper. The key is in our name – AdVertiSer. This publication relies on paid advertising to generate income for printing/postage costs, staff salaries, and building/equipment maintenance. However, the Advertiser is pleased to be of service to the community by offering open space – when available – to help our readers share news they feel is of interest to the community, such as engagements, weddings, milestone birthdays and anniversaries, birth announcements, five generation pictures, Vacation Bible Schools, library programs, school and club events, etc. If an organization, even nonprofits like Veterans organizations, charge for a steak, chicken, or fish fry, we can’t offer free advertising to them, as their event competes with area restaurants who do pay for display advertising. Churches also compete with restaurant advertisers when they host Chili and Spaghetti Dinners, etc. The key is in what is done with the funds generated. For example, a church hosting a dinner to raise money for a new organ would be charged to advertise that event. However, if the church is hosting a dinner to benefit a family experiencing a health crisis or who have lost their home in a fire, the Advertiser waives the cost of advertising as our contribution to the effort. Those wishing to advertise an event that does charge an admittance fee can do so by including that information in our Calendar of Events for just $15 per week.
