Grave Mistake: I’ve written a lot of crazy stories over the years – and many times I’ve said: You can’t make this stuff up. The craziest stories are often the true ones. So bear with me while I tell you what happened to my friend Ben lately. Ben is one of my oldest friends. He’s been dating his beloved for several years, but never ever met her father. Dad was a cantankerous old geezer and he didn’t socialize with anyone. So….. just recently poor old dad passed away. Ben’s girlfriend Barbara dutifully carried out the funeral arrangements. Dad was a Vet and she arranged for a graveside service with full military honors. She then got dad’s best suit, shirt and tie and took them to the dry-cleaners so that his last remains could be viewed in dignity. She also took some dry-cleaning for Ben, including his favorite tuxedo. A few days later the funeral took place. The casket was opened and dad – who Ben had never seen before – looked surprisingly splendid. The next day girlfriend Barbara went to Ben’s closet to make sure his tuxedo was ready for an upcoming wedding. But when she opened the bag containing the tuxedo, there was a suit she didn’t recognize. To cut to the chase….she’d given Ben’s tux to the funeral home – and dad had been buried in that! Ben laughed as he told me the story. He recalled how Barbara had taken him to several funerals over the years – and in all those services, he had never met the dead guy. So there seemed nothing particularly different about this funeral. He added: “When I looked in the casket that day I didn’t know what to expect. Remember that I had never seen dad before. But as I looked down at his last remains, I

thought to myself: “I’ve never seen this man before – but dammit, that sure looks like my tuxedo!!” As I say this story is true – only the names have been changed to protect the embarrassed participants. The Last Message: Marvin, was in the hospital on his death bed. The family called Marvin’s preacher to be with him in his final moments. As the reacher stood by the bed, Marvin’s condition seemed to deteriorate, and Marvin motioned for someone to quickly pass him a pen and paper. The preacher quickly got a pen and paper and lovingly handed it to Marvin. But before he had a chance to read the note, Marvin died. The preacher feeling that now wasn’t the right time to read it put the note in his jacket pocket. It was at the funeral while speaking that the preacher suddenly remembered the note. Reaching deep into his pocket the preacher said “And you know what...I suddenly remembered that right before Marvin died he handed me a note, and knowing Marvin I’m sure it was something inspiring that we can all gain from.” With that introduction the preacher ripped out the note and opened it. The note said “HEY, YOU ARE STANDING ON MY OXYGEN TUBE!” Tombstone epitaphs: A lawyer’s epitaph in England : Sir John Strange. Here lies an honest lawyer, And that is Strange.

Boy Scout, Pack 165 worked on their conservation protect. The boys donated a tree to the town of Haverstraw. Supervisor Howard Phillips was there and accepted the tree from the boys. This donation and ceremony could not have happened without Supervisor Phillips, the staff of the town of Haverstraw and Boweline, as well as DJ Helmke Landscaping and Shemins Nursery. Pack 165 is very involved with the community. Just to name a few. They have participated in Keep Rockland Beautiful, assisted with Memorial Day services, collected food for local families, worked with the veterans for Toys for Tots, visited local nursing homes and hospital, collected clothes, books, and blankets for Montrose Veterans Hospital as well as care packages for our deployed military.

Petersenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Boatyard, located along the Hudson River in Upper Nyack, dates to 1787. Hundreds of vessels had their keels laid here, most notably during World War Two, when the US Navy commissioned the yard to construct a fleet of submarine chasers. Toward the end of the 20th Century the yard switched to providing dockage, repair and storage for recreational boaters, but recently returned to its roots, under the ownership of Ken Graefe and his family, once again providing heavy commercial marine haulage and repair services. The older photo, from the 1950s, documents the yard, slipways, construction sheds and boats. The newer photo, from April 2016, shows the bustle as a fleet of tugboats and large commercial vessels are serviced by a slew of workers. While much has changed in the intervening 60 or 70 years, comparison reveals that much is still recognizable. - Daniel Spitzer.

Start with white walls. I like Benjamin Moore’s Decorator White 04. Walls and ceiling in flat paint and the trim in semigloss. Floors can be a warm wood tone, use wider planks to mimic drift wood. Very natural looking and just vacuum or damp mops Furniture pieces can be white leather or faux leather. All wipe able. However, ink is difficult to remove but there are cleaning products available for spot removal. Perhaps the chairs could have chrome legs. AVI holds fun event for Lego kids Almost 50 children from Rockland and Orange Counties and their “buddies” participated in a LEGO® Store Mini Model Build, at the Palisades Center store. The program, hosted by the Association for Visually Impaired (AVI) allowed visually impaired children and those with other special needs to experience the building of a mini model lighthouse at the store, and take it home after – for free. Following the activities, all the guests were treated to refreshments, courtesy of Evergreen Kosher Supermarket of Monsey and the Association for the Visually Impaired. For Monsey resident Rachel Bodek, the event fulfilled a long-time wish. “The AVI event was groundbreaking. As a visually impaired individual myself and a mother of a visually impaired child, I’ve always yearned to have a support network as well as opportunities for recreation and skill building geared to individuals with visual impairments.” Mrs. Bodek believes the importance of events like this lies in the opportunities it provides for people from all communities to network, and share information about programs and services that may be beneficial.” “This was an amazing start to actualizing this dream,” she added. “It is a great resource to visually impaired individuals, their families, and friends. I am hopeful that AVI can continue similar events going forward and I will do anything I can to facilitate this awesome project.” This event was the first in a series of Association for the Visually Impaired’s Education, Recreation and Wellness Programs created from funds raised by special events. Recently, AVI hosted a chair yoga class for adults who participate in its support group. The group will participate in another yoga session, as well as other adaptive fitness and health enhancement programs in the coming months. According to executive director Beth BateDu Boff, the goal of AVI’s programs is to promote independence and provide supports so an individual can remain in their home of choice and participate in all activities of daily living, as well as help a person to develop the skills to participate in community activities. “We are looking to improve the quality of life for all individuals who are blind or visually-impaired. Garnerville Arts Festival is a Garnerville smash was buzzing with excite-

ment as thousands of people toured the vast Garner Arts Festival complex to view the work of outstanding artists. The Arts Festival also celebrated the 400th Anniversary of the Founding of Haverstraw. Many works were on display. The public explored artistsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; open studios filled with contemporary and student art exhibitions. They participated in art workshops, drum circles and childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s activities. They watched films, dance and live music on two stages and they visited historic exhibitions and the Lagunitas Brewing Company Beer tent at Garner Creekside. There were also plenty of food trucks and the Garner Coffee Bar. The Garner Arts Center is pleased to report that they have received multi-use zoning from the Village of West Haverstraw Board of Trustees. The Center has begun work on its new home in Building 35 located at The Gateway to the Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center Complex. The new Tappan Zee Bridge - what’s happening and how it will change your life Story/Photos: Janie Rosman Motorists crossing between Westchester and Rockland have a clear view of the New NY Bridge’s main span towers, now taller than the original Tappan Zee. In June project officials held their annual public meetings to update residents and answer questions about the $3.98 billion project. Rivertown Magazine viewed the progress at river level recently on the Historical Society of Rockland County’s tour, “The Tappan Zee Experience: Past, Present and Future.” So we wanted to know what’s happening now - and what’s happening in the near future at the bridge many of us still call the Tappan Zee. ***** Last September consortium Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) began building those 419-foot main span towers by utilizing self-climbing concrete blue jump forms. Crews assemble the rebar (steel reinforced) cages and pour concrete in segments starting from the bridge’s foundations until the towers reach their full height. The forms follow the slight outward angle of the towers that loomed above as our captain carefully steered through the main span channel. Traveling across the new bridge Both spans are being built simultaneously; however, two-way traffic will shift off the old bridge onto the new northbound span in early 2017. The crane will begin deconstructing the current bridge — and will finish in 2018 — as construction begins for the northbound span’s bicycle and walking path. Once the landings are removed the prebuilt southern span will be connected, traffic will be split between the two lanes, and the bridge and path will concurrently open in 2018. The new bridge will have eight general traffic lanes that meet the new federal highway standard of 12 feet wide (96 feet total width), four breakdown/emergency lanes, space for a dedicated bus lane, and a walking/bicycle path. high-strength concrete panels for the bridge’s approach spans last October, and that month the first of three girder assemblies was pushed over the Hudson Line train tracks in Tarrytown to the first set of piers. Earlier this year (February) TZC installed four hollow, concrete crossbeams — that will support the concrete panels and roadway — between the main span towers. Electronic tolls, no fare increase Now that the toll plaza in Tarrytown is gone, motorists have four unobstructed lanes, and two temporary electronic toll gantries were activated. They’ll be removed once the new bridge and permanent

toll facilities in Tarrytown open. The 2016-2017 state budget allocates $700 million allocated for the Thruway Authority to freeze tolls on the 570-miles stretch, including the Tappan Zee Bridge, until at least 2020. This is in addition to $1.285 billion in bank settlement funds, Cuomo said during his State of the State 2015 address. Walking/bicycle path landings A new visitor center and greeting area and a 26,000-squarefoot maintenance facility are being built on the north side of the Thruway in Tarrytown. New York State Police Troop T will be relocated to a new building on the south side of Thruway. South Nyack is re-emerging as Rockland County’s gateway as it works diligently with the NYS Thruway Authority and the state to preserve residents’ quality of life. Last year the state agreed to relocate the Rockland terminus (landing point) away from residential village streets to Thruway property near Exit 10 with adjacent parking. “We went back to the drawing board to ensure that all parking, restrooms, lighting, etc. needed for the shared use (walking/bicycle) path would be located within Interchange 10 and not on village property,” Mayor Bonnie Christian said. Mid-June Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that the village’s preferred option, “Alternative F” at $16 million, was chosen after a thorough review of its impacts and benefits to the local communities. New beginning for South Nyack “It’s very exciting news,” Design Compliance Engineer David Capobianco said. “It’s a good example of how government can work collaboratively with communities for a solution that meets everyone’s needs.” “This is fantastic news,” Christian said. “The village, the residents, the board and the task force were working together, and we’re pleased our efforts have been heard. I want to thank Governor Cuomo and the Thruway team for listening to—and acting on—our concerns.” South Nyack received a $250,000 grant through the bridge project’s Community Benefits Program to study the feasibility of redesigning and redeveloping that land. Results from

that study, available sometime in the fall, will provide information about how the village can use Interchange 10 property. Christian hopes to develop the land commercially and help defray tax burdens South Nyack residents carried since the early 1950s, when the current bridge took more than 100 homes and its business district. Rotary Club of Nyack installs new officers The Rotary Club of Nyack conducted its Installation Dinner for officers and directors at the home of Howard and Fran Hellman. President John O’Brien said that he enjoyed serving together with the Nyack Rotarians on so many special projects. Quick and delicious summer recipes Summer food should be quick, easy, nutritious and delicious. The following recipes fit the bill, you’ll be eating them all summer I promise! The chilled soup will happily sit in your fridge for up to 4 days allowing the flavors to meld and become more heavenly with each passing day. Plus it’s full of goodness, it’s like a helping of “health” in a soup bowl that tastes wonderful. The fish is an all around easy dish. It takes about five minutes to prepare but looks and tastes like you’ve spent years in culinary school. It’s perfect for busy weeknights or a posh dinner party. So many people are afraid of cooking fish, please don’t be - fish is your friend! I’m warning you ahead of time that the frozen cookies are addictively finger licking good. Once your family and friends have tasted them they’ll be asking you to bring them to every summer event. You can make them super duper healthy and gluten free or if you prefer with regular flour, sugar and eggs - your choice. I’ve included ingredients for both, and both are fantastic so why not choose the healthy option! Gazpacho This may seems like a lot of chopping and peeling but believe me it’s worth it! Good quality fresh organic ingredients REALLY worth using here. It will taste so much better and the quality of the nutrients will be far superior to a soup made with aged conventional vegetables. 6 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped (yielding about 6 cups) 1 red onion, finely chopped (about 1 cups) 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, chopped (about 1 cup) 1 sweet red bell pepper seeded and chopped (about 1 cup)

2 stalks celery, chopped (about 1 cup) 1-2 Tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or basil or cilantro of a combination of all three. 1 clove garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon) 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 1/4 cup olive oil 1 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste 6 or more drops of Tabasco sauce to taste

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 2 cups tomato juice Place all ingredients in a large bowl. Use an immersion blender or blend in batches, to desired smoothness. Some like it chunky and some like it smooth - it’s up to you. Adjust seasonings (salt and pepper) to taste. Place in a non-reactive container (tomatoes are acidic) to store. Chill several

hours or overnight to allow the flavors to blend. That’s it! So easy, so delicious and so healthy. Baked Fish in Parchment Parcels Quick, easy and delicious - this will become you’re go to fish dish. I know it’s mine! 4 fillets of firm fish (cod, Chilean Sea Bass, salmon halibut and swordfish are all good options) 1 teaspoon soy sauce 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil 1 teaspoon maple syrup Your favorite greens: bok choy, spinach etc A thumb sized piece of ginger 1 clove garlic, peeled 1 happy gulp of white wine per package Wash the greens and place them on a large square of parchment paper. Pour over the wine. Grate the ginger and the garlic and sprinkle over the greens. Place the fish on top of the ginger, garlic and greens. Pour 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame oil, 1 teaspoon maple syrup and 1 teaspoon of soy sauce over the fish. Close up the parchment paper around the fish (it won’t fully close up don’t worry!) Place the fish parcels on a baking tray

and put into the oven to bake for approximately 10-15 minutes depending on the size and thickness of the fish. It’s cooked when it flakes easily with a fork - that’s how you test to see if fish is cooked. If it flakes it’s cooked, it it’s rubbery and dense it isn’t easy!! Remove from the oven, allow to sit for a few minutes then serve. Frozen Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cookies Finger Licking Good! Try not to eat all the batter before it gets into the oven. These cookies are that good - cooked, frozen or raw! (if you would prefer these cookies to be vegan, use a flaxseed egg - 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds with 2.5 tablespoons water, stir together, allow to sit for 5 minutes, then use as you would a regular egg). 3/4 cup rolled oats (gluten free) 1 cup gluten free (coconut flour would be fine) or all purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup butter, softened (or Earth’s Balance vegan butter) 2/3 cup coconut sugar or regular white sugar

1 large egg (or flaxseed egg - see above) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup dark chocolate chips For the filling: Dairy free or your favorite ice cream Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Place the oats in a medium bowl and stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Beat butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add sugar, egg (or flaxseed egg) and vanilla; beat until smooth and creamy. With the mixer running, add the dry ingredients, beating on low speed until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop the dough by heaping teaspoonfuls, at least 1 inch apart, onto the prepared baking sheets. Bake cookies 1 sheet at a time, until firm around the edges and golden on top, about 15 minutes. Cool the cookies for 2 minutes on the baking sheets, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. When the cookies are cool, sandwich them together with the ice cream. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in the freezer until nicely frozen. To serve, simply remove from the freezer and enjoy.

Understanding your financial position

Do you feel confused about your monthly investment statements? Do you understand the words that come out of your advisors mouth? Are you worried about if you’ll have enough to retire? Does this sound like a Pepto-Bismol commercial? Confusion. I find that as I meet with people week after week, the main theme is confusion. I thought this month, let’s take a look at this complexity filled issue and break it down to try to make it easier for you to deal with your finances while dealing with the stresses and roadblocks of everyday life. Whew…just writing it makes me confused! The first place to start, before all the paper and mail and conversations with your advisor (you DO have an advisor, don’t you?) is to look at your goals and objectives as to why you are saving. Not unlike setting out on a road trip, you have to first determine where you are going before your set out. Clearly if you don’t, you will never get there, because you don’t know where you are going. If driving around aimlessly until you run out of gas is your thing, have at it. The end result as we all know, is exactly that- you’ll run out of gas eventually and not get anywhere.

Is your road trip similar to your financial plan? Anything in life that you ascribe to achieving would usually be the result of a carefully crafted plan to completion. Financial planning is not much different than building a house for example: first comes the blueprints, materials list, finding the right contractors and people who are experienced in the field of expertise you need, etc. Well, in financial planning the same is true. A financial roadmap needs to be drawn to ascertain your goals, and how to achieve them. Not unlike a road trip where detours are sometimes necessary, so are the changes in life- you have to go with the flow and adjust when necessary. Find an advisor. You’ve heard me advocate seeking out a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) for as many years as you’ve been reading my ramblings. A CFP® is trained to deal with the complex-

ities of the financial world, and completes 30 hours of continuing education every two years- or they lose their certification. Anyone can call themselves a financial planner, investment advisor, consultant or wizard… it’s the certification and continuing education that counts- to show that they have studied their craft and achieved certification of the expertise you so dearly need to help guide you. To be sure, you need to be personally comfortable with your planner, but at least you’ll know they have the educational background you need to help you through. Don’t let your ego get in the way- you don’t fill your own cavities…you go to the dentist. You don’t (or shouldn’t) do your own taxesyou go to your accountant. So what makes you qualified to manage your own money? Open your statements. They’re not sent to you to accumulate to start the fireplace or make sure the shredder is working. They are an informant of your financial position and it is crucial that you both read and understand them. If you are confused…ask for help. This is your money, your future- if you don’t pay attention to your financial standing, don’t blame anyone but yourself if you don’t achieve your goals. Economics are an ever-changing entity, and sometimes you have to adjust for them. Ask questions, and schedule reviews with your advisor. No questions are silly or stupid…only neglecting to ask them is. So, set your goals, get into a regular savings plan, find the right advisor to walk along with you on your journey, keep up on what’s happening, and go for it! The wonderful, (w) refreshing world of white wine! How’s that for alliteration? How about Verdicchio, Vermentino, Verdelho, Verdejo, Verduzzo, Vernaccia, Viognier and our very own Vidal Blanc?? Why, it’s enough to make your head spin before you’ve even taken the tiniest sip! Now that we are finally in the midst of hot, summer days you need to find the right white to quench your wine thirst. Thankfully, there are many options available. Summer is the perfect time to grab a bottle of white, chill it down, and find some friends and a nice comfy spot to enjoy it all. Begin your search in the V section of your local wine store – just kidding. There are many white wines that don’t begin with the letter V. You know, all the usual suspects like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Grigio to name a few. But this summer do yourself a favor and try something out of your comfort zone. Here’s a little info on a few of these wines. Let’s start with Verdicchio. Verdicchio is most often found in the Marches region of Central Italy. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio de Matelica are both DOC’s. They are crisp, fresh and fruity and the quality has vastly improved over the past few years as modern wine making techniques are employed. Temperature controlled stainless-steel fermentation improves the liveliness and acidity in the wine. Though most are meant to be drunk young there are some even capable of aging. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea means there is always lots of fresh seafood ready to accompany this wine, the perfect match. Vermentino is associated mainly with the island of Sardegna but it is widely cultivated on the northwest coast of Italy in Liguria. Light and crisp a perfect match for the fish caught in the Ligurian Sea. Vernaccia is familiar to anyone who has traveled to that famous Tuscan hillside town San Gimignano, or San Jimmy for those unwilling to try the Italian pronunciation. Tourists seem to have unquenchable thirst for Vernaccia di San Gimmy, it’s a wonder there is any left for export!! It has been produced since the 13th century so clearly they have had many centuries to fine tune the product! In 1966 when Italy began their wine classification system, Vernaccia was the first to be awarded DOC status and in 1993 it was upgraded to DOCG. Switching countries, we now move to Spain, northwest of Madrid, where the Rueda wine region lies. This is Verdejo country. It is almost exclusively a white wine region where Verdejo has been grown for centuries. Verdejo is a late bloomer and also late to ripen. Rueda has a continental climate meaning very cold winters and very hot summers with everything in between including hailstorms and late frosts. These vines struggle to survive but the resulting wine is often outstanding. You can expect a dry, light to medium-bodied wine with refreshing acidity. Flavors of stone fruits such as peaches and apricots predominate. Verdejo is a white wine with a finish that lingers. Enjoy the search for your new summer white! For the birds, life goes on

-June as I write this, and Momma bird is feeding the brood constantly now; back and forth back and forth, all day long, babies carrying on the minute they see or hear her, and she has got to be thinking “what was I thinking?!!” With a loud call she scolds them to be quiet when she leaves, and one just can’t shut up. So cute I can’t stand it. Now my oxytocin is in full swing, a hormone we ladies make in response to cute little things, during labor and breast feeding, during orgasm, and chatting with the gals, as it promotes social relationships. (Some studies have found by the way, that it may be deficient in kids with Autism). Men make it during sexual activity, which is why, since it’s a feel-good hormone, men don’t sit around yakkin’ with women, like the gals do, they’d rather, uh, lay around with them. Back to the birds. The male wren does help around the house, taking out the garbage, keepin’ an eye on the kids; it’s wonderful to watch. “Both male and female help build nest, with male usually starting base (and female rearranging it)”. Sure, “you know, I like the look of that twig over there instead.” Momma bird wren cares for her young in one of the two bird houses we put out. We are entertained every morning, as we eat our oatmeal and little bowls of supplements, with all that activity. Neighbor Tim is entertained by me carrying on like big bird. Can’t imagine why… In spring everything on this planet becomes very busy making new. New nests, new plants for the house, making babies, banging, hammers and tools for instance, some of you got that, some didn’t, and we all flock to Home Depot like lemmings. Why? Because we are no different than the birds and bees, and other mammal animals. Driven by hormones, if we’re lucky enough to have proper amounts of such, life goes on. What hormones you ask? Progesterone, estrogen, prolactin, oxytocin, and even cortisol, believe it or not. Hormones that can keep mothers from throwing their own kids out of the nest. You can get away with murder when you’re cute. We know that mothers make hormones to nurture and protect their young, but what about Dads? Well, here is some interesting news, Nana. Two studies at Memorial University and Queens University in Canada show Dads undergo hormonal changes too. I happily quote, “ In the best fathers, it turns out, testosterone levels actually drop significantly after the birth of a child. If manhood includes fatherhood, which it does for a ma-

jority of men, then testosterone is hardly the ultimate measure of masculinity.” It goes on: “In fact, the second of the two studies, which was recently published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, suggests that fathers have higher levels of estrogen, the well-known female sex hormone - than other men!” Others had a rise in prolactin, a pro-lactation hormone. Some even have pregnancy symptoms, like morning sickness, weight gain, and a desire to wear the ribbon hat at their baby shower. Ok, not the shower thing, but here’s what they did. Blood was drawn from men before and after in an experiment where they listened to a baby crying and watched videos of a newborn struggling to breast feed. In another they held dolls wrapped in receiving blankets worn by infants 24 hours before.” I personally wish I could have been there for that just to hear the conversations between the men. “does he sleep all night?” “he has your eyes I think”… Ok, so they go on: “What they found is startling: Men who expressed the greatest desire to comfort the crying baby had the highest prolactin levels and the greatest reduction in testosterone. (Really?) And testosterone levels plummeted in those men who held the doll for the full halfhour.” Some went shopping for shoes after. Ok I made that up. (OMG I can’t stand it now.) In animal studies, compared to rat daddies, “In human fathers, prolactin levels rose by approximately 20 percent during the three weeks before their partners gave birth.” Ok, how did they get the rats to hold the dolls is what I want to know. ” The second hormone, cortisol, is well known as a stress hormone, but it is also a good indicator of a mother’s attachment to her baby.” This means that the stress hormone actually changes the way moms feel about their kids. Oh great. Don’t you dare relax Alice, or you’ll get nailed for neglecting your kid… Back to the info: Testosterone levels in

men are highest when working, watching sports, or having sex, which does come in handy for the sex, with or without him or her. What it does suggest, is that both men and women are hard wired to nurture as needed, and become aggressive as needed. The study suggests that men who need to be with their kids after divorcing their mothers really need to be with them, and nurture them, just as their mother does it would seem. So the take home is that we all, men and women, make all the hormones, and to keep it all going, they need to be at normal levels, or we won’t make nests and feed our young. Whether it’s testosterone, estrogen (and there are more than one), progesterone or cortisol, even melatonin, these levels can be checked with a simple salivary hormone test or a blood test, but the saliva test may be best for some. Why, (my favorite word) you ask? Some people may have an underlying hormone deficiency that may not show up in a blood test, which measures both the free and bound hormone. Patients can have low progesterone, the pro-gestation hormone, which can impact your ability to conceive, give them painful periods, Petunia, and make them cranky and depressed. Their libido may be on the floor, and not in a fun way, due to low testosterone or progesterone. There are natural products that can help. Some who self treat can run into trouble and may get scary, hairy results if not done right. Now fans and theatergoers can get their Barbra-fix when Penguin Rep Theatre presents Buyer & Cellar, Jonathan Tolin’s award-winning comedy in Stony Point starting July 1. A play about the price of fame, the cost of things and the oddest of odd jobs, Buyer & Cellar is the (fictional) story of Alex More, an unemployed actor, and what happens when he goes to work in a shopping mall built in Ms. Streisand’s basement where Babs is the only buyer! July Computer Classes for Seniors - Sign Up Now Available. Classes are 2 hours, once a week for 6 weeks at a cost of $60 for the course. More advanced classes are 4 weeks at a cost of $40.
