JAY POND, MD Whether he’s seeing patients at Arlington Orthopedic Associates or doing his part to help underserved populations in Guatemala or through Mission Arlington, Project Access, and Open Arms, General Orthopedic Surgeon Jay Pond is all about relationship. “It’s important to take the time to develop relationships with those I serve,” he said. “I want to educate them about their treatment options then include them, from start to finish, in making decisions about their own treatment.” As one of the original founding members of Arlington Orthopedic Associates, Dr. Jay Pond has been practicing general orthopedics for over 25 years with a special interest in adult reconstruction including minimally invasive robotic surgery, injuries and surgery of the shoulder, hand, and upper extremity, and arthroscopy, a procedure for diagnosing and treating joint problems. He takes seriously his pledge to, “First do no harm”.

Atkinson prefers his patients call him “Cam” not Dr. Atkinson. “I learned early that, given the opportunity, every patient will simply tell you what their problem is,” he said. “It’s my job to slow down and listen. I’m just a normal guy who does hand surgery for a living. Taking time to get to know each patient allows me to put together every piece their story including their symptoms, occupation, living situation, and favorite activities to tailor a treatment plan that’s perfect for them.” Dr. Atkinson is known for his attention to detail. “Whether it’s one problem in a visit or five, it takes time to put each patient’s story together with the examination and imaging, to formulate a plan and try to solve each issue,” he said. “My passion is making people better and I firmly believe excellence isn’t an act but a habit.” Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Atkinson’s time as s a running back for Princeton University led him to orthopedics at Vanderbilt. He was naturally drawn to

hand surgery given the breadth of the problems and depth of treatments. Dr. Atkinson’s days off are spent with his beautiful wife and four children. His love of sports transitions into a lifelong passion for strength and weight-training. One of the great blessings of his life was donating a kidney to his uncle in 2005.
