I guess we never know the experiences that will shape our lives when they’re happening to us. For Jimmy Kelley, a hip disorder in his teen years certainly didn’t feel like an “opportunity”. But after two years in a wheelchair and a hip replacement at the age of 21, he says he was able to know firsthand what it feels like to be a patient and the difference a compassionate and caring doctor can make. He carries that knowledge with him into his medical practice, every day. “I genuinely enjoy getting to know and care for my patients,” he said. “I'm always excited when someone considers me to be ‘their doctor.’ My goal is to provide my patients with a well-rounded and patient-centered approach to their urologic care, treating them as a whole person rather than just a disorder, diagnosis, or problem. Patients often mention I’m easy to talk to, and they feel things were explained well and discussed in ways that were easy to understand. I feel like that all began with me being a patient first and a doctor second.” Dr. Kelley places an emphasis on serving as his patients’ advocate and taking the time to help guide them toward the best options for their treatment. “No two patients are exactly the same,” he said. “I like to spend as much time as it takes with each patient so they can feel comfortable with treatment plans going forward, and always want them to feel like they have a voice in making decisions about their care.” For him, urology has been the perfect specialty. “It gives me a chance to be in a cutting-edge field where I get to follow my patients for years,” he said. “And I have the opportunity to treat problems that can greatly improve my patients' quality of life. I try to treat every individual who comes to see me like they’re a member of my family. They can rest assured any treatment options

In his free time, he’s a member of the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce where he participates in patient education events to help spread awareness regarding men's health issues. There’s no doubt where his inspiration comes from though. “I’m most passionate about my family,” he said. “My beautiful wife, two daughters, and family are the most important things in the world to me. They’re the reason for everything I do.”
