“My advice is to try to be self-aware. Do things to boost your self-esteem rather than allowing others to build you up or break you down. If you are passionate about what you do, it will show. Have fun, enjoy life, otherwise, what are you working for?” – Mandy Cotten, FNP-C

Even at a young age, Mandy Cotten knew she wanted to help people. “Growing up the daughter of a doctor and a pharmacist, I was always interested in medicine and helping people,” she said. “As a small child, I loved watching patients have their blood drawn in my dad’s office. (Of course, having my own drawn was a whole dif ferent stor y.) My dad is a pioneer in his field and has taught me to always continue learning new things daily. I learned the importance of work ethic at a young age from my stepdad. He told me, ‘Working builds character,” and gave me my first job at 15…I’ve been working ever since.” Mandy also grew up with a mom she says is “Superwoman in disguise”. Seeing the focus she placed on her family, Mandy knew she wanted to do the same. “She goes above and beyond for her family,” she said. “I hope I can be half the mother she’s been to me. I always knew I wanted a family but worried I wouldn’t have

time to be a mom, wife, and advance my education. Life has a funny way of coming together as I ended up simultaneously planning my wedding, picking out kid’s names, and completing my doctora l degree in Nursing.” Mandy decided she could live out her d re a m of helpi ng ot her s a s a nu r se practitioner. As she worked to make that dream come true, she also married the love of her life and had her first child. “Turns out, I had time to accomplish both my dreams, with the help of my family and my husband Casey,” she said. “I love being a nurse practitioner because there’s so much focus on patient education and involving the patient in their own plan of care. Sometimes medical care can be paternalistic, but I don’t think it has to be that way. Utilizing my knowledge and involving my patients in their own care helps me provide them with better support and allows me to guide them in their course to wellness. Optimal health

for me is very much a team effort, I can provide guidance and then the patient can take the reins and make their path.” Mandy specializes in hormone optimization and sexual wellness for men and women, thyroid management, IV nutrient therapy, and nutraceutical management, giving men and women their quality of life back through holistic health care while empower ing them to make sav v y wellness decisions for themselves and those they love. “I arrived to where I am in a roundabout way, but I wouldn’t change anything about it,” Mandy said. “My advice is to try to be self-aware. Do things to boost your self-esteem rather than allowing others to build you up or break you down. If you are passionate about what you do, it will show. Have fun, enjoy life, otherwise, what are you working for?” Mandy is proud to pay it for ward by providing treatment free of charge to a group of veterans struggling with PTSD.
