ABOUT ME I consider myself as a young persistent and self-motivated architect, born and grown up in Coimbra, since 1987. Since I was a child I was probably influenced by my father who has worked in the area of construction all his life, I have always had an increasing curiosity for materials and how they are used in our live. The architectural passion grew up while I was at high school, with lessons like art history and design study. In parallel to this I have always been a very active person, practicing sports have always been part of my life, but while I was practicing rugby I found my pasion. When it comes to work I take responsability very seriously but I also love the best things in life. Recently, I have finished my Master´s Degree in Architecture with a final project an theorical Thesis “C > Learning, da ruina ao conhecimento“ from E.U.A.C, Coimbra. In addicion to all of this, I have some experience in: 3D modeling, rendering, technical drawing, modeling, design process and thinking architecture plus some knowledge of materials and construction process. I have learned multidisciplinary team working influenced by my sport background. Motivated by the desire to understand others realities and live a new experience outside my confort zone, I entered the erasmus program in Milan, Italy, where I have learned to interact with others, this was an important step in my life to understand the way of living and their culture, the experence was very rewarding. In the future, I am looking foward to start a new learning process in a professional way and they way of living while working in architecture.

OBJECTIVE — To join a team of professionals — To have a opportunity to learn from professionals — To work on a diverge range of architectual projects — To have oportunite to use and reenforce a language

C> Learning Type Location Program Year

Thesis Coimbra Portugal Learning Center 2014 / 2015

The C > Learning building comes with the idea of resolving the problem of “where to study after classes?“ because the students of Coimbra University are spending a lot of hours studing when the campus is close, they do not have a place with all certain conditions to study open till late, otherwise they just have to choose between coffee shops or a friend´s house. With this ideia I will try to solve the problem with the learning center concept, a concept explorade by the Ango-Saxon countrys and more well-know by EPFL, by the hand of a outstanding architecture oficce (SANNA). This was thought as a concept to create an hybrid space of leisure, social, and learning, a multidisciplinary space without formalities dedicated to the academic community, especially to the students, where traditional boundaries between disciplines are exceeded, where spaces are authentic quality generators of life for the academic community and society in general.

The Site Once I have establish the programme, the first concern was to look for a place that is near to the campus and the city center. The place that fulfill all the requirements was Santissima Trinidade College. The building (Santissima Trinidade has a complex history and it is connect with the history of “Alta de Coimbra, this will be not be explain in the portfolio, but if you have some interese to see it, you can go to the link in page 6) is in a bad shape, because of all the transformations that have been made and the lack of maintenance that was never present. In resume is was forgotten in time.

Noticing the scale and the great magnificence of the factory the general idea for the place was trying to preserve the original facades and leave them as the time made them, in its adjacent land, buil up the new volumes with the concept and with the references of the industrial buildings of its surroundings, trying this way to adapt them.

Exterior Program

Project V Castelo Branco _ Portugal Hotel / Restaurant / Auditorium 2014 / 2015

The programme that was given to us was to build a new hotel in the city of Castelo Branco, Portugal. The location was given to develop the project that used to be a hotel from the old regime, with an imperial style that was common at the time. This building was destroyed by the people of the city when the regime fell as a way to manifest for all the years of fascism occurred in the country. Now the place where it used to be an hotel is fulfill with a parking area. An hotel is a very complex programme, besides that, it contains several spaces and multifunctional rooms (conference, congresses, exhibitions and concerts) and it is serve with temporary apartments or seniors residents, exploring several niches in the market.

The idea for the project was to divide the hotel programme and the function space, creating with this a conceptual idea of addition and subtraction, where addition will be the hotel respecting the height of his sorroundings and the subtraction wil be the function space, which it would be place bellow the level 0, creating at the top of this a square that will serve to lower the height of the hotel, for this not to take all the role of the historical building that is in the front and leaving him to be seen.

The approach of the lesson for this project was to understand the way of living, who to create a space for, who they will life the house, whether the house conects with the surrounding or not. Each student by luck had to choose an architect, so that we can project an house for him/her. We had to study the architect, his work, what does he thinks and where did he came from, at the end we had to do an essay about the way of living.

34

05 35

Concept The proposal for this project was to design a house for an architect, in this case I単aki Abalos. After doing a long research, I have concluded that he is a naturalist, an architect with environmental concerns and which acts with sense. The concept for the house it is based with a relation between exterior-interior, a house that will have all the experience around the patio, this patio will be the central elemente of the house.
