HILE traditions, styles and vows may change, one thing that remains the same is the excitement and specialness that is your wedding day. Here is a chance to stand with the one you love before your family and friends and make a commitment to them, to celebrate what makes you special as a couple and to welcome in your new life as a married couple. Whether you are having a small gathering with those closest to you or a huge celebration with hundreds of guests, there are many things to be considered in

organising your special day. Dresses, suits, hair, jewellery, flowers, make-up, photography, food, entertainment, vows and of course a honeymoon, these are things that need to be organised well in advance to ensure that your individual tastes are catered for. HAT distinctive look on your special day will always come down to a bride’s individual tastes (a maybe a few suggestions from her mother) but ultimately it never hurts to know what the trends are for the year. While there are always the classic looks when it comes to so many aspects of weddings including dresses, flowers and decorations, 2018 is seeing brides open to trying something fabulous but still functional. Blush Bridal Boutique’s Linda de Gunst said the fitted A lines and other classics would always be loved but brides were focused more on rustic, boho-type designs incorporating chiffon and lace. “The soft lace is not only stunning but it provides a lighter feel to the dress and hangs very nicely on many brides,” she said. “Chiffon and lace add that extra special appeal to a dress as well and while ivory dresses again continue to be popular, brides are really making the lace pop with a touch of colour underneath it in almond or coffee colours. “Given the quite hot weather we have been having, we find that more brides are being drawn to autumn, spring or winter weddings in an effort to be more comfortable and because of this we will be getting some of the three-quarter sleeve dresses in that were proving popular at a recent bridal show in Sydney.” Add to this some of the stunning dusty pinks or burgundies in bridesmaid dresses that are also proving popular, with bridesmaids not having to all wear the same colour but darker or lighter examples of it. As the dresses stray away from the classic, it is not the case when it comes to flowers, with Flower Fusion Bundaberg’s Melissa Partridge highlighting that the traditional, elegant and rounded posy-style bouquets were very much in style. “There is still some call for the beautiful textures and colours of the natives, but the rest of the year is heading towards deep reds as well as good use of blues and whites,” she said. “We are lucky in that we have a wealth of seasonal flowers that are available to us locally that are also fashionable including roses and gerberas too, but if brides need anything from further afield they can be shipped to us easily.” When it comes to trends in party favours or dessert displays, Cha Cha Chocolate’s Melanice Jacobsen said people remember three things: the food, the entertainment and the experience. “If you add something special to your wedding day you will be remembered for it,” she said. “I personally encourage couples to incorporate something unique to their wedding when it comes to favours, whether it’s a certain thing they love or something they have shared while being together. “Candy buffets are so under rated; if you have been to a wedding with a huge table of amazing desserts, confectionery and other treats, this event is now an experience.” 4

Mor ga n and Ky le G a le a Elegant with an essence of country and a stunning array of floral decorations that would leave you speechless, Morgan and Kyle’s wedding was a joining of two souls who clearly share the same views in life.

I

t seems marriage was almost written in the stars for Morgan and Kyle given that Morgan had known Kyle’s mother Chris for years, before the couple finally met and were, as Morgan describes, a perfect match. The couple had dated for four years and been engaged for the past two. Kyle popped the question while the couple were getting photographs. The Riverside Retreat was filled with love, laughter and life as lovebirds Morgan and Kyle tied the knot, with the couple especially in wonder at the spectacular fireworks show that was a part of their special day. 8

There were subtle hints of colour through the various floral arrangements and it was clear that the couple enjoyed adding their own special and unique touches to their day. Morgan said she was in awe of the whole day and couldn’t wait to spend the rest of her life with Kyle. “It was absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We were so similar and I couldn’t imagine life without him.” The Bundy couple thanked everyone who came and celebrated their special day with them. “We couldn’t thank you enough, it was absolutely perfect,” Morgan said.

Mor ga n and Ky l e G a l ea The Details Date: September 9, 2017 Photographer: Gina Bryer Photographer Invites: B Inked Dress: Blush Bridal Boutique – my Stella York dress was a beautiful ivory over a champagne coloured dress with a beaded bodice that scattered down the train with a soft tulle bottom. Makeup and Hair Design: The House of Marah – Morgan’s make-up was striking but subtle with a gorgeous updo filled at the back with a stunning flower arrangement. Jewellery/Rings: Michael Hill Jeweller Groom’s Suit:.While the groom and his boys went to Connor for the top half of their suits, they added their own special touch of country with Wrangler jeans and Akubra hats. Bridesmaid Dresses: Bexley House – striking navy floor length dresses without sleeve and with a striking lace overlay. Centrepieces: Designed by Picture Perfect Decorators, who Morgan is extremely lucky to have as her mother-in-law. Chris went above and beyond to cater for Morgan’s love of flowers and created the most

beautiful large floral spheres that sat on each table and had touches of gold and lace. I was going for a slight country feel but still very elegant and Chris provided that with Bundaberg Roses and the help of Fiona from Your Local Greenery Farm. Flowers: Morgan’s flowers were nothing short of amazing with beautiful white and antique coloured roses with the centre two big King Proteas. The bridesmaids had a beautiful mixture of soft colours to complement Morgan’s bouquet and the colours used in the reception. Ceremony: Riverside Retreat – by the river to add a touch of nature and beauty and a striking outlook. Celebrant: Vikki Knight Reception: The Barn at Riverside Retreat Cake: Tea with Marees designed a single tier cakes complete with cupcakes Videographer: My Film Entertainment: Halo Production and a magical fireworks display from Light ’Em Up Fireworks. Guests: 70 of our closest friends and family Honeymoon: Cruise to Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia. 9

Rel a x at Ri v ersi d e Re treat Former school camp on Burnett River offers peace and beauty

OCAL couple Mark and Michelle Mullins continue to show that anything is possible if you are passionate about what you do. Started over 40 years ago, Riverside Retreat started as Country Matters, a school camp grounds on the Burnett River. Michelle said many Bundaberg residents would fondly remember happy days at school camp there. “The large log style country barn which is the centrepiece of our wedding venue and the many buildings that surround would well fit into a time long gone by where life was simpler and not as fast paced,” she said.

“As soon as you arrive and walk amongst the towering gums and flowering gardens you begin to relax and see the many ways you can plan a unique wedding.” The beauty of the location and the different options available means that Riverside Retreat covers all kinds of weddings. Mark and Michelle offer great-value packages which can include camp-style accommodation for up to 60 people. “As a small family business we take great delight in working with your chosen decorator, caterer and other industry specialists to deliver your perfect day.”

S ha ke i t up The first dance shouldn’t be dreaded

T

HE FIRST dance. For many of us modern couples who don’t often take a spin around the dance floor together in a snappy waltz or snazzy samba, this moment can often be quite nerve-racking. You still quietly count ‘one, two’ in your head and worry about stepping on each other’s toes and falling over. Thankfully with the tuition of local dance professionals, this doesn’t have to be a reality. Australian champion dancer and teacher Gary Oaten said learning to dance as a couple ready for your first dance was about working together and enjoying getting close to your partner. “With some time and commitment you can enjoy having a really good time and not even have to come to classes with any experience.” You can choose a fast or slow song, include your whole wedding party and even get Mum and Dad to shake their booty on the dance floor to one of your favourite tunes. “We are finding that couples are embracing the fun and pizazz of the swing, rock n’ roll dancing and the rockabilly and it suits a wide variety of age groups.” RJ’s Rock n Roll Diner owner Robert Newitt welcomes helping couples choose a tune that would be sure to have even Elvis himself tapping his blue suede shoes.

FTER a hugely successful event last year, organisers are taking bookings for this year’s Bundaberg Wedding and Formal Expo. Bundaberg PCYC’s Tracy Dobson said more than 600 people passed through the doors last year, making it one of the biggest events to date. “In 2018 we want every wedding industry business to be part of the biggest bridal event in the region,” she said. “We understand that time is valuable for all businesses, and the Bundaberg Wedding and Formal Expo gives business owners the opportunity to meet and speak with people who genuinely need their

products and services. It also provides them with opportunities to network with other businesses and discuss the latest trends and developments within the industry.” The expo will be held on June 17 from 9am to 2pm at the PCYC Bundaberg Multiplex. Admission is $4 (free for children under 12 years). Tracy said a range of businesses had registered, from skin and beauty to Jamberry, Kingfisher Bay Resort and wedding celebrants. “We are taking registrations now and our early bird special ends on May 11,’’ she said.
