TourInfo which is the first and the only free Armenian tourism magazine now can proudly announce that has 10 years background: yes, today we celebrate our 10 years anniversary and sum up the work done during this long period.

GOLDEN APRICOT Yerevan 10th International Film Festival July 7-14, 2013

OLDEN APRICOT Yerevan 10th Jubilee International Film Festival will be held from 7 to 14 July at numerous cultural venues of the city and will traditionally feature best of the films and host the most distinguished cinematographers from around the world. The internationally rising interest around the festival brought more than 1200 film submissions from around the world out of which only around 200 were selected to be presented in the festival programmes.

The opening ceremony of the Festival will be celebrated by the opening of Charles Aznavour’s “Star” on the square named after him in front of Moscow Cinema. The event will be made especially significant by the presence of the legendary artist himself.

Internationally renowned film makers and critics are invited to be on the Boards of Jury. For instance, International Feature and Documentary competitions will be chaired by award winning world famous directors István Szabó and Sergey Loznitsa accordingly. Distinguished filmmakers Atom Egoyan, Krzysztof Zanussi, Jos Stelling and many others will honor the festival with their presence. Godfrey Reggio, the US leading filmmaker has agreed to give a Master Class while his stay in Yerevan.

The competition film programme will traditionally be held in the four main categories: International Feature, Documentary, Armenian Panorama and “Apricot Stone” (the short films) competitions. The out of competition programme

will present the Retrospectives of Charles Aznavour, Stephen Frears, István Szabó, Ulrich Seidl, Pietro Marcello, Rezo Chkheidze. Best of their films will be screened. The Tribute programme will celebrate the Anniversaries of Aram Khachaturian, Artavazd Peleshyan and Nerses Hovhannissian. It is also an honor to mention that GOLDEN APRICOT is officially announced as sister festival of BUSAN and ROTERDAM international festivals which will be marked by the screening of special film programmes from both festivals and the hosting of the festival representatives.

The two co-production forum markets- the Directors Across Borders and Armenia Turkey Cinema Platform will be held within the frames of the festival. For the second year already the Festival will also present the CIS films programmes supported by Intergovernmental Foundation for Education, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation.

Charles Aznavour, István Szabó, Jos Stelling and Margaret von Trotta will be awarded with Parajanov Thaler for Lifetime Achievement in the world cinema.

Kieran Cooke Visits Yerevan Already for the Third Time

TourInfo Meets with the Professional & Well-Known Journalist

K

ieran Cooke is a journalist specialized in the field of environment and climate changes.

He writes the weekly Green and Confused column for The Times and also contributes to Eureka, the monthly science magazine distributed by the paper. He is a frequent contributor to BBC radio, in particular to From Our Own Correspondent, one of the most widely listened to and respected of BBC programmes. He has also written for The Guardian.

In addition Kieran writes for The Irish Times and broadcasts for RTE, Irish radio.

Kieran has been a foreign correspondent for the Financial Times, the BBC and The Independent, based in Indonesia, Greece, Ireland and Malaysia, covering a wide variety of political, economic, business, social and environmental issues. In recent years he studied Environmental Conservation at Oxford. Kieran has lectured at Oxford and teaches environmental and business journalism, mainly in the developing world.

During the past two years he has carried out training and reporting assignments in Nigeria, Georgia, Albania, the United States and Armenia.

On June for some days he was in our country already for the third time running the lecture on the changes of climate in Caucasus for journalists representing Armenia, Georgia, Abkhazia, South Osia and Nagorno Karabakh.

We had a short but very meaty and interesting conversation with Mr. Cooke and discovered several things about tourism in Armenia. He mentioned that the city Yerevan, the face of the capital has changed a lot: there are new buildings everywhere.

During his visit Mr. Cooke managed to visit Matenadaran, some other cultural and entertainment centers. Especially the journalist was impressed by the very good jazz concerts in Yerevan. From the tourism services in Yerevan he was in general contented.

Mr. Cooke plans to again visit Yerevan in a year of time and again with lectures which in our opinion are too important and useful for the participating journalists.

We hope that our communication with such an experienced professional will last long and next time we will again meet and get fresh news.

ì»ñ³¹³ñÓ Ivan Mirzoyan’s life reminds of a fiction movie abundant with horror and fantasy elements.

Barely 16 years old Ivan without parents’ knowledge takes the soldiers recruiting car from the yard of the Opera House and leaves for war. Born in Nagorno-Karabakh Ivan is committed to a fight for his own land. In just two weeks during the skirmish he was injured and taken prisoner. Years of captivity were held in basements, deprived of light and being continually beaten. He was tortured in the most inhuman ways: oil injection into the body. For the guy sentenced to death uncle became a rescue in the true sense of the word. The latter paid 7 million rouble and saved him from being shot.

Horrible nights, dark dawns and endless tortures: Ivan paid a very high price for two years of captivity. He paid with his missed days, paid with his sound health and distorted life course.

Fortunately Ivan's heroic path, suffering and the torture he endured were no obstacle for him while making happy family and giving birth to healthy children.

Today for Ivan are prior his health problems and the improvement of living conditions.

Each of us seems to be under an obligation to somewhat relieve the heavy burden of a man who lived such a heavy life.
