EMC news - Members of the 2012 World Broomball Championship organizing committee were at Parliament Hill on Wednesday to officially accept $50,000 in funding from MPs Scott Reid and Cheryl Gallant. The funding was provided in advance as the championship is just around the corner with an Oct. 29 kick-off. Committee members Paul Watters, Ruth Brown, George Brown, Allan Reid and Glenn Arthur were able to officially thank the MPs and present them with their own broomball sticks while at the hill. The funding came from the Eastern Ontario Development Program. Because the event is being held in Beckwith, Carleton Place, Mississippi Mills and Arnprior, it falls into both Gallant and Reid’s ridings. Gallant represents Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke and Reid Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington. Because of the cross-over, both MPs were able to apply for $25,000 in funding, with a total of $50,000 being given. Arthur said that the funds were earmarked for advertising, officiating and facility costs for the tournament. Gallant said even though the funding has already been given, both herself and Reid wanted to officially celebrate the funding with the committee. “It’s finally coming to fruition,” Ar-
thur said. “Four communities coming together. And not only the organizing committee, but minor sports groups in each town.” Minor sports groups have given up regular ice time in order to give facilities in each of the four communities up for the tournament. He said it has
taken a lot of cooperation to pull the tournament and facilities together. “It’s been a job and a half,” Arthur said. Reid said it was beneficial that the tournament was spread over two ridings, as far as the funding was concerned.
“This is a good example of something where you have communities that cross over the jurisdictional boundaries,” he said. The World Broomball Championships run Oct. 29 to Nov. 3 in the Ottawa Valley. All final games will be held on Nov. 3 in Arnprior.

the committee where the Nick Smith Centre is concerned. It would be more of an information sharing where discussions take place and Glen Arthur takes recommendations to council for support,” CAO Noreen Mellema informed council at the Oct. 16 regular meeting. “Some McNab recreation committee members are interested in sitting on the committee,” she added. EMC events - This Saturday’s Unity Run in support of Community Living Renfrew County South is still looking for runners, walkers and volunteers. Runners and walkers wanting to participate can show up in person at the Nick Smith Centre to register either Friday, Oct. 26 from 6-9 p.m. or Saturday, Oct. 27 from 7:15-8 a.m. The entry fee is $35 per participant and includes the Limited Edition 2012 Unity Run t-shirt and a $20 tax receipt . Walk-in registrants must either bring cash, cheque, or money order. Contact Jane Dowd at 613-623-9963. There is also a need for spectators. Come out on Saturday morning and cheer on the walkers, runners and volunteers.

EMC news - McNab-Braeside council wants more information before deciding to accept an invitation extended by the Town of Arnprior to join the recreation committee. This comes months after township council declined an invitation to form a joint recreation committee with Arnprior. “They just want to know if council would like to sit on
by Arnprior Counc. Mark Willmer is made of up of volunteers and meets once a month. “Is there a suggestion as to how many members?” Mayor Mary Campbell asked. “Originally Mayor Reid suggested equal representation when you were negotiating your recreation agreement. That would be 10 members, a large committee,” CAO Noreen Mellema stated. See MORE INFO Page 10
