Main Street School of Music hosted The Show 2011 to showcase the talents of the school’s 15 students.
Road work on Van Dusen Drive and elsewhere in Arnprior dominated much of the discussion at the June 27 town council meeting. Councillors want to resurface Van Dusen Drive, which snakes behind the airport and was part of the 1988 annexation to Arnprior. The paving is being prompted by a group of the lengthy road’s homeowners, who recently filled council chambers demanding the work be done. “The road is in desperate need of paving and its condition is widely affecting the residents,” penned Robert Verch in a letter to council from Van Dusen residents. The anticipated 9 per cent hike to Arnprior water bills next year - thanks in part to the current freeze - will not go ahead as planned. At Monday’s meeting council heard an update from treasurer David Pollard on two water plant projects. He also revealed that interest rate charges to pay for the projects have fallen.

Robert Carr plants his torch after calling the McDonald clan Thursday evening at the Calling of the Clans/Ceilidh held at Waba Cottage Museum and Gardens to kick off the McNab Days festival. While there were some showers in the evening, the heavy rain held off until the tail end of the Thursday event. For more on McNab Days, see Pages 4, 5, 6 and 7. Photo by Sherry Haaima
McNab Days took a major step forward on the weekend, attracting hundreds of people to four major events. The most dramatic moment came Saturday when a flotilla of heritage craft, including the world’s last operating Alligator forestry boat, arrived at Red Pine Bay after crossing the Ottawa River from Bristol. About 400 people lined the beach to welcome the mariners and enjoy the Riverdriver Festival. Meanwhile, inland the Burnstown Women’s Institute packed the Burnstown United Church in a celebration of its 100th anniversary. The next day, a Scottish Festival, building on last Thursday’s Calling of the Clans Ceilidh, was held at the Waba Cottage Museum and Gardens. See ‘FOUR’ Page 4
