Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children Hybrid Cath Lab
WILMINGTON, DE
Ranked among the nation’s best in pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery by U.S. News & World Report, families from across the country—and around the world—come to the Nemours Cardiac Center. To meet this demand, the hospital needed to expand its cardiac intensive care unit and wanted to build a new hybrid operating suite, but expansion space was extremely limited.
The new Catheterization Suite was designed as a hybrid Bi-Plane Catheterization Lab and Support Space. This shell space where the hybrid lab is located was planned for by Array when we designed the 21,000 NICU/CICU expansion. (which will serve as Prep/ Recovery space for cardiac patients). The shelled space allowed for the existing cath lab to continue service while the new hybrid lab was under construction and brought on line. The new suite is configured so that a second catheterization lab can be constructed with minimal operational impact during construction.

“Hybrid Cath Labs can serve patients in an innovative way. Offering the ability to diagnose cardiac conditions and quickly move patients to a recommended surgical procedure is a clear benefit of these facilities. Making sure that everyone on the clinical platform is in sync with the concept is an absolute necessity.”
