Mount Sinai Health System Klingenstein Clinical Center Cardiovascular Intensive Care Units & COE Administrative Floors

NEW YORK, NY

Array and Mount Sinai Health System have collaborated on several projects within the adjacent Klingenstein and Guggenheim buildings over the last several years. This endeavor, a full gut renovation of the Guggenheim Pavilion’s fifth floor central unit, provides an updated coronary care unit (CCU) with 12 private rooms, including two isolation rooms.

The full gut renovation on the sixth floor of Mount Sinai’s Klingenstein Clinical Center serves patients with a variety of complex cardiac needs. The renovation of this floor included a ten-bed cardiac critical care unit and an adjacent ten-bed step-down unit. Exterior windows were replaced

New interior fit-out construction included all interior partitions, smoke separations, doors, ceilings and finishes.

The 5th floor at Guggeinheim is equipped with full view sliding and breakaway doors to allow ease of clinical access as well as direct patient observation from outside the room. While the Unit’s configuration didn’t easily allow for recessed touchdown stations between rooms, the team elongated the team center to provide seated observation spaces for clinicians to chart and maintain visual contact while allowing as much patient and visitor privacy as possible.

The 7th Floor Clinical Cardiology Department provides office and support space for attending physicians, interns, fellows, administrators and nurse practitioners. Executive offices for department heads anchor one corner, and shared spaces for researchers, fellows and interns line the perimeter window walls, while support functions occupy the central core. Demountable partitions with translucent glass panels are used in key locations to ensure natural daylight filters into interior spaces, and to maintain an open feel - fostering collaboration and teamwork.
