A1: Creative Software Task 4: Making your on banner for your ePortfolio

The banner (above) was created using a mixture of traditional (Drawing/ Painting) and 'Digital Art' methods. • For this task you need to create your own banner which will be featured on your own ePortfolio. • Begin this task by drawing and colouring (paint/ coloured pencils/ pastels etc) your own design that includes the title: DIGITAL ARTS • When you have completed your 'traditional' banner, you then need to 'digitise' it by using one of the following methods: • SCAN - If you have access to a scanner, scan your work and save it to your computer. NOTE: You could/ can use the photocopier' as a scanner and email your scanned work to your school email! • PHOTOGRAPH - If you have a camera and/or camera phone simply take a picture of your work and then transfer the image from the camera device to your computer. • However you choose to 'digitise' your work, you must ensure that the image file created is a .jpeg type of file and saved to your network area/ folder. You can access your network folder/ area via the VLE/ Frog (if working outside of school). • With your work 'digitised' you next need to edit it further by using an image editor such as:

• • • • • •

Adobe PhotoShop Adobe FireWorks MS PhotoDraw MS Paint Paint.net PaintshopPro

• or a free online editor such as:

• • • • • •

Picnik Photoshop Express SplashUp LunarPic FlauntR PixLr • All of the above online editors (and many more can be accessed via the LINKS section of the eLearning page HERE.

• With your work loaded in one of the editors, consider how you might manipulate your work further. This could be by applying/ using filters and/or adjusting the colour and contrast.

• IMPORTANT: You may/ will need to remove any background from your original work. To do this most image editors have a 'Selection Tool' find it and use this to remove the background from your work so that your new graphics can be seen. CLICK HERE for help.

• Add additional graphics such as shapes, lines etc

• Layer graphics on top and behind your original work to see what layout works best.

• When you have finished editting your work, you then need to save/ export your work from the image editor to your PC.

• For best results ensure that you save your work as a .jpeg file type. • Check the dimensions (size) of your work. A good size to use for your ePortfolio would be between 900px (pixels) and 1500px.

• If you are working outside of the academy ensure that you upload your work into your network/ folder via the VLE/frog.

• You will need access to your banner for your next assignment - A2: ePortfolio.
