A1: SPOD OVERVIEW: AIMS: ● The aim of the assignment is to let your imagination run wild and invent a useful small gadget. Anything goes, you are only limited by your imagination. Your work could be based on an improvement of an object/gadget that already exists, or it could be something completely new and original. Inventing an idea is fun, and designing new inventions can be very rewarding. DEVELOPMENT: ● This is the first of two assignments that comprise the ‘Design’ project. Before you take on the challenge of a large scale design sheet, this assignment will give improve your confidence and provide you with the required skills to design successfully. ● Learning, understanding and practicing ‘elevational’ drawing techniques will help you illustrate your designs using a range of different viewpoints. This skill is essential for sharing, discussing and presenting your ideas/designs. OUTCOME: ● The main/ final outcome (A1: SPOD) should be a large (A3 Paper) design sheet that clearly illustrates your chosen SPOD, using full colour effectively and annotated with labels and explanations of how, what, why, who, where, when etc.

Guidance:

★ During this assignment, you should begin by completing a series of development

tasks inside your sketchbook. ○ Title Page: ‘Design’ This is likely to be set as a homework task by your teacher.
