Dan Nelson Paints the Town July 3-31, 2015
Reception: July 3, 6-9pm
After Dan Nelson paints your town, you’ll never see it the same way again. His hundreds of cityscapes make it clear that he has a special way of capturing the beautiful hamlets and cities of North America. Dan typically spends a week in town - producing oil and acrylic paintings, watercolor sketches, and a video montage. He loves chatting with onlookers, residents, tourists, and fellow artists while he works. “I do my best painting when I am mildly distracted,” Dan quips, “ and I love watching people’s faces light up when they see - sometimes for the first time - how beautiful their hometown is. So look for a big umbrella, a big easel, some sweet jazz tunes, and a bunch of smiling faces. Dan Nelson is painting your town. You’ll never see it the same way again. Studio Resident Artists

Conversations with Artists: with Susan K Jones Where do I get ideas and inspiration? I collect them! I’m a photographer so it is natural to always have a camera with me. When I don’t carry my big camera, I have my iPhone. I photograph everything that catches my eye. Then I use Adobe Lightroom to manage my growing collection of images. I can then scan my collections to get images or spark ideas. There are other times when the inspiration is simply serendipitous. Looking through images from a hot air balloon festival, it hit me that the balloons would be great subject matter for our current show, Adrift. I needed images of them drifting though and I hadn’t seen that yet. I am not a morning person, but I got up at 4:30 am to drive 45 minutes to be at the field at sunrise. I got there before the balloonists and enjoyed a lovely sunrise. There weren’t many spectators; there was plenty of space to photograph all the bright colors and activity. One by one, the balloons gently lifted from the ground and floated east toward the sunrise. In less than 30 minutes, the field was empty and quiet. Was it worth the effort? You bet! I was home by 8:00 am with over 200 new images, ready for a few more hours of sleep. Every month, Tipping Paint Artists share their thoughts and inspirations so that you can get to know us. We hope you enjoy these articles. Stop in and see us, we would love to meet you too! Where: Tipping Paint Gallery 311 W. H
i y’all to the many travelers visiting our historic City of Charleston. We at the Charleston Artist Guild, Charleston’s Hometown Guild, hope you will take a few minutes to visit us at our fine art Gallery in the historic French Quarter. We are surrounded by great places to eat, cobble stone streets, and bathed in the charm of the Historic Old City.
The Guild is traveling to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens for their annual History Fair, on Saturday July 4th. The History Fair is a gathering of the very oldest businesses in the Charleston area, with all of us showing and telling what we have accomplished over the last several hundreds of years. We are honored to join them. Please join us to watch Debbie Daniels, Native several of our artists who will be there painting on the grounds, and visit our tent to learn the history of the Charleston Artist Guild. The historic Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a “must see” when in the Charleston area, and with the bonus of all the historic businesses present, it should make your visit a joyful event!

Ben’s work is meant to capture your eye, lead it to see color and light in ways that are unfamiliar. These works are bold gestures of life, they tend to explode off the canvas more as a 3 dimensional sculpture than traditional paintings.
