• Ask questions. Artists and Gallery owners love to talk about their art. • Cultivate relationships with people in the art world. • Good art falls into a wide range of prices. • Emerging artists are a good source of affordable art. • You will never get tired of owning a piece that touches you, that evokes emotion. Local thrift stores have benefited from my having purchased art, not because I loved it, but because I thought it was a good investment. Personal style and preference matters the most. If you are drawn to a piece of art, if it is inspiring, if it evokes passion, listen to that inner voice and enjoy your new art.

Life is short, take the plunge!
Tips for Collecting Art
At 311 Gallery this month, our artists are sharing their favorite pieces with you in an exhibit called “Small Works”. The artists will be available to answer your questions and talk about their work with you. Come out and enjoy the gallery circuit during the First Friday Art Walk. You just might find something that you love!
311 Gallery Collecting art can seem intimidating until you look at it as a personal journey. Your goal is to find pieces that resonate with you and reflect who you are. Collecting art is not a competition nor should art be an object of speculation; your collection is about you and your experiences, nobody else’s. Experts offer a variety of tips to help you get started; these tips show up on all the lists. • Get educated, figure out what you like by visiting galleries and museums often; they are the best place to learn about different periods and styles. • When something catches your eye, take the time to see what the painting is about.
