A Passion for Art Creates Opportunity Returning for its seventh year, the Asheville Art in the Park art market has become more than just a place to buy exceptional art. It has become an opportunity for local and regional artists to earn an income and create lasting connections with collectors. This year artists vending at the market will pass the landmark of $1 million in total sales since the show’s conception in 2009. The outdoor show returns to Pack Square this June 13th, 20th, and 27th for the first of three Saturdays in its six Saturday annual event. The additional three Saturdays are held during leaf season on October 3rd, 10th, and 17th at the same location in the heart of downtown Asheville. Under the direction of local ceramic artist Andrew Montrie, the market has grown in financial return for artists but not in size. With about 60 art vendors at the show, each of the artistic media categories you would expect to find at a handmade art show are well represented. Pottery, Jewelry, Glass, Woodturning, Paintings, Fiber Arts and many more styles are on display for sale by the artists themselves.
By making a purchase at the market you will also participate in a cycle of giving that benefits local artists. After each show, artists donate 10% of market profits to a grant created by the Asheville Area Arts Council. After soliciting additional matching funds from the North Carolina State Arts Council and other local sources, the Asheville Area Arts Council distributes the money to local arts businesses that apply for the grant. Each year the Arts Council gives out more than $10,000 via the Asheville Art in the Park Grant.
Asheville Art in the Park is held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Since 1974, Picture House Gallery has been Charlotte’s premier resource for the discriminating art collector, providing the most comprehensive ranges of art services in the country.
Whatever your taste, décor, or budget, you are likely to find a piece here that looks as if it were created for you. At Picture House Gallery, the eclectic collection includes contemporary and traditional oil paintings, from small sizes to massive, oversized pieces. It also features watercolors, pastels, indoor and outdoor sculptures of wood and marble, art glass, and ceramics, along with lithographs, serigraphs, etchings, and posters. Many of their artists are nationally and internationally renowned artists collected by institutions across the United States. Picture House Gallery’s staff is glad to make an appraisal or answer any questions about any artist whose work a private collector may be interested in obtaining. Selling art, however, is only a part of the foundation on which Picture House Gallery has built its well-earned reputation. Fine art deserves the utmost in care, handling, and expertise, and this gallery has maintained the highest standards for more than 37 years.
11 It provides one of the most comprehensive ranges of art services in the nation. Owner Bob Griffin and his staff have extensive experience acquiring and installing pieces for some of Charlotte’s finest corporations, and health care and financial institutions, some of which has encompassed the use of scaffolding and cranes. “It’s important that our clients talk to us about their needs so we can accomplish what they want to achieve,” Bob says. “We have a loyal clientele who keeps coming back because of our service-oriented philosophy”. In addition to fine art sales and consultation services Picture House Gallery offers a full-service custom framing shop with over 2,600 mouldings, and such special touches as French matting, period framing, hand-gilded and hand-carved frames, 14-karat white gold or 23-karat gold frames. Skilled technicians can also restore oil paintings, antique frames, old documents, and refurbish silk fabrics. This distinctive gallery offers an all encompassing range of art forms. If you have any questions about any of the gallery’s services, come by and talk to the experienced staff. For more information about the gallery’s services feel free to visit their website or call them. Amber Lane, 36” x 12”

artGuide promoting the visual arts “We at the 311 Gallery in Raleigh have had significant increases in traffic and sales due to our advertising and articles in the Art Guide. In addition to increasing our local traffic, we are now having customers from Charlotte, Charleston, and other areas come into the gallery directly as a result of seeing our ads and articles in the Art Guide. We have been quite pleased by the sales generated by the extra traffic from other areas from art lovers who seek us out when they come to Raleigh for meetings, vacations, or visiting friends. It is a win-win to be in a Guide with wide circulation—we get extra traffic and we get to see what other galleries are doing. Going to the larger ad and full page article this year has paid off for us with increased traffic.” Allen L. Clapp, Owner, 311 Gallery Raleigh, NC Advertiser since June 2012

This June, FRANK presents two exciting exhibitions, People and Places, and Overtures 2015: An Invitational. Combined, these shows feature ten artists who represent the diversity of disciplines, skills, and talents embodied by the artists of FRANK Gallery. Local oil painters Julia Harmon and Carroll Lassiter team up for People and Places, a show about memory. Using vintage amateur photography, Julia explores the emotional content carried in the image and how it ties to memory. Carroll finds memories rooted in the landscape of North Carolina, the fields, skies, and roads traveled between Orange County and Edenton. This exhibition also includes, wood-turned pieces by Frank Penta. Overtures is an invitation to the public to view the work of seven extraordinary artists. The variety of materials and vision promises to be an experience you won’t want to miss. Abstract painters Anne Gregory, Paul Hrusovsky, and Catherine Gregory are inspired by everything from global issues to the wonder of a childhood garden. Warren Hicks’ photographs capture graphic black and white abstractions formed by shadows. Wood turner Ann Matrone releases stunning organic shapes from fallen trees. Sculptor Bill Moore’s creations depict elements ranging from the sublime to the hilarious with exemplary skill and accomplished craft. Felt artist Sharron Parker uses dyed, unspun silk and wool to create abstractions using brilliant colors and textures. Warren Hicks, Straight Up

311 Gallery is honored to host Joseph DiGiulio, a renowned abstract painter for the month of June. He has had a broad career in the creative industry, working in the textile industry for many years, teaching, and is now the Executive Artist at Jerry’s Artarama.
Joseph’s latest pieces are large-scale abstract acrylic paintings that reflect his use of color, line, shape, and texture. His art takes on the expression of color and dynamics that capture the success of his cancer recovery and the essence of his travels. Joining DiGuilio, are Jacob Joubert and Anthony Casaletto of Killshotstudios. In 2013, artists Jacob Joubert and Anthony Casaletto joined created forces, forming Killshot Studios, to collaborate on their shared anti-elitist vision for art. Adopting the slogan “SYSTEM without the E”, they aim to make iconographic work that creates a personal connection—a shared experience—between the artist and the observer. Coming in July, Dan Nelson Paints the Town. Dan is a Live Event Painter. His work is wonderful and diverse. He paints nearly all of them in front of an audience; with two hands! Once he paints your town, you’ll never see it the same way again. Studio Resident Artists

Conversations with Artists: with
Amy Beshgetoorian
I am always painting, even when I’m not. Nearly every waking (sometimes dreaming) moment that I am not putting actual brush to paper, I am still painting in my head. Driving in the car, I am noting the wide array of shadow colors. Washing the dishes, I am imagining new color combinations to try. Walking the dog, I am calculating which brush technique might work best to paint what I see. I keep a notepad by my bed because right before falling asleep is when the best ideas usually come to me. Some obsessions are a curse; mine is a blessing. I am so grateful to have the ability to see beauty in almost anything. As long as there are interesting shapes and shadows, inspiration can be found anywhere from random clutter on the table to a face that does not fit our culture’s definition of beauty.
Turquoise Stripes
Although carefully planned, my paintings are executed very quickly, usually in one sitting. I allow the pigments to mix on the paper rather than palette, yielding effects that only water and gravity can. Inspired by Chinese watercolor, I paint boldly and deliberately. Energy is evident in the brush strokes recorded on the paper. Painting with speed allows paint from different areas to run together before drying. The viewer can feel uplifted by the energy as well as relaxed by the loose blends and bleeds of color.

CONJURED GHOSTS A solo exhibition of new oil paintings by Julyan Davis Exhibition dates: April 24 through June 21, 2015 We invite you an invitation only reception and talk by the artist, Thursday June 4 at 6:00 pm. To request an invitation please visit the Eno Gallery website. Julyan Davis is a British-born artist who has painted the South for 26 years. This exhibition brings together new landscapes of North Carolina and figurative studies from his acclaimed traveling Museum exhibit of Murder Ballad Paintings. You can read more about Julyan Davis’s enigmatic work along with reviews and articles at the Eno Gallery website: http://enogallery.net This is an extraordinary collection of new work that we are honored to bring to Eno Gallery. The exhibition gives a nod to those other ghosts - - the painters who have influenced Julyan Davis’ work - the symbolists, Caspar David Friedrich, Edward Hopper, and the Ashcan school. In addition one can see the influence of Giorgio de Chirico in Davis’s urban landcsapes... “To become truly immortal, a work of art must escape all human limits: logic and common sense will only interfere. But once these barriers are broken, it will enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams.” Giorgio de Chirico
