Diana Coidan, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America discovered pastels Diana Coidan, Pelican Patience, pastel, 34” x 25” years ago finding the medium to be expressive, offering rich color, variety, and immediacy to paint her award-winning pastels. he Charleston Artist Guild members are a diverse group of artists and art lovers. Some of us turn to art to reflect or escape the stresses of the demanding world around us. For others, our personal dreams thrive with public recognition. Whatever your dream, the Charleston Artist Guild is here to help. For those who aspire to a career in art, the Guild has proven the way. Many of our former dreamers are now professional artists and gallery owners. You can participate in as many or as few of the Guild offerings, as you choose. There are classes, workshops, exhibits, and shows for all talent levels. The special beauty of the Guild is that we do not forget the dreams of those less fortunate. Our outreach programs help the young, the old, and the infirm to achieve their dreams too. Please visit our website for more information on the Charleston Artist Guild, or our gallery at 160 E. Bay Street to see what local artists have been up to!

Eggistentialism.2.0 April 30-May, 2015, Reception: May 1, 6-9pm Eggistentialism.2.0 will kick off the 11th annual Tour d’Coop. The Tour is an entertaining way to educate the public about raising chickens and urban farming while raising non-perishable food and money for Urban Ministries.
Jill Hunt, The Hen and the Golden Straw
Started in 2005 as a way for a few neighbors to show off their hens and coops, the Henside the Beltline Tour d’Coop has grown to a one-day garden tour that encompasses 20 coops and thousands of visitors. Coop owners and the tour organizers volunteer their time to promote back yard poultry and urban farming. This year’s Tour will be Saturday, May 16. To learn more, visit tourdcoop. com.
This unique Parade of Combs benefits Urban Ministries of Wake County, which touches the lives of more than 23,000 diverse clients every year. 311 Gallery is excited to host the second annual Eggistentialism show. Conversations with Artists: with
Vicki Rees
How do you choose an original piece of art? Whether you are looking at a painting, photograph, or a piece of sculpture, try these tips.
Wrightsville Morning
Style is a matter of your personal taste. Are you a meat and potatoes person, or a world cuisine connoisseur? There are many styles to choose from, including realism, abstract, modern, surrealism, and contemporary. Don’t limit yourself: a piece of pop art can fit in to a split-level just as well as it does in a downtown condo.
Your preferred Subject might be determined by where you are placing the art. A landscape in the living room may be perfect while a peaceful still life feels right in your bedroom. Finally, Palette is the color scheme of the piece. Does it please you or do you simply hate the color yellow and would never consider a photograph of daffodils? A popular saying is that good art does not match your sofa. However, art that is right for you should make you happy every time you see it in your home. Don’t buy art because you want it to appreciate in value. Buy it because you value your appreciation of the artwork. Every month, Tipping Paint Artists share their thoughts and inspirations so that you can get to know us. We hope you enjoy these articles. Stop in and see us, we would love to meet you too!
