traditions of Boruca masks began over 500 years ago, during the Spanish Conquest. ‘Diablito’ or little devil masks were created and worn with the intent to scare the unwelcome invaders back to Spain. The pride of their artwork comes alive through brightly coloured masks during the festival of Dance of the Devils or Game of the Little Devils hosted by the Boruca people. Although this representation and festival are that of elaborate costumes, folklore, and ritual dances it tells a tale of their past and struggle. It is also a celebration of their resistance to capture and attempted removal of their identity and tradition. The Boruca’s believe that the spirit animals of the jungle help them resist the conquistadors, so their elaborate masks are designed to represent those fierce animals and also local flora and fauna of their country. Boruca demonstrates that a tribe cannot be defeated if its culture is alive today. Boruca is very much alive and fighting to preserve it’s identity.

were always being painted over or removed by different artists. In June 2015 the work I produced was exhibited at Het Kunstenaarsbal (Amsterdam Cultural Festival) presented by the Peter Klashorst Gallery located in the Spuistraat where a substantial body of my work was influenced by. In 2015 the NUArt street art festival came to my home town of Aberdeen for the first time where I worked as a volunteer. This gave me the opportunity to see first hand the work put in my the wonderful array of street artists that came to my city and met with other local like minded people. This is when I joined the ThrowUp Gallery, a collective of like minded street artist and began spraypainting for the first time. We have worked on a number of street art projects and hosted workshops. This changed my artwork dramatically. Moving from painting large scale street art inspired canvases to walls Angela’s Tribe All artwork began as an idea for a workshop painting on old spray cans which would have otherwise been thrown away. Therefore my love of Amsterdam and my experience with NUArt has been my biggest source of inspiration. ANGELA THOULESS

Graduating in 1999 from Gray’s School Of Art with a BA (Hons) in Painting, going on to receive her Postgraduate Diploma/ Masters in Art & Design in 2000. Angela Thouless has exhibited her artwork across the UK and further afield - Milan, Crete, Venice and Singapore. During my first trip in 2012 to Amsterdam I fell in love with the street art there and that’s when my passion for urban art began. I started making it a point to photograph it whenever I saw a

piece that interested me. In 2013 I came across the Spuistraat area in Amsterdam which following a decade of non-usage of the buildings there became squatted, attracting many creative and free spirits, like artists, musicians and actors etc. It became a creative centre and tourist attraction for almost three decades. I began photographing, documenting and obsessing over the buildings and street art here. Each trip back to this area for me was always different since the walls

TRIBE ALL SPRAY CANS

Influenced by tribes, tribal gods and ritual masks. There nonnaturalistic yet highly stylised forms, I felt, really embodied powerful and highly expressive imagery. The work on canvas developed from the first piece I produced which was a mural to raise money for an orphanage in a Kenyan. I began delving into African tribes which then got me drawing inspiration from all corners of the world, my Tribe All spraycan paintings show a mixing of styles and artistic currents that refer to distant and different cultures, fusing these together on the canvas. Celebrating and promoting all the wonderful diversity there is in this world. The faces are painted on spray cans referencing my own background and fusing my signature style with the cultural inspiration. Tribe All represents a sense of togetherness. Tribe All – together we are one! My Tribe All spray can artwork began life as an idea for a workshop painting tribal-like faces on old spray cans I had used which would have otherwise been thrown away. From there I delved deeper into tribes and tribal gods. I came across ritual masks.

In 2019 these paintings developed into her unisex urban t-shirt brand Tribe All. Both the artwork and the t-shirts celebrate and promoting the diverse cultures of the world motivated by my love of street art and culture. My artwork has been featured in Elle Decoration, 3 editions of House & Garden and Red magazine. GQ, Wired, London Life, Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire, Elle, Cosmopolitan and Vogue have all run editorial on Tribe All. The brand has also been promoted at the Urban Music Awards in 2020. Future ventures include being promoted again at the 2022 Urban Music Awards and Event Savo’ which will be opening Milan Fashion Week in September 2022 where Tribe All will be paraded as ‘New Talent’. EXPLORING THE JOY OF CONSCIENCE, DIGITAL PAINTING, 80CM X 60CM

Masters Award (ATIM) 2022, New York, referred to as “The Oscars for the Visual Arts”. Can you tell the audience about yourself and how did you start your journey as an Artist?

Marcelle Mansour is a Sydneybased Australian multidisciplinary visual artist, bilingual writer, poet, journalist contributor, Peace Ambassador and thought leader in the art industry whose goal is to empower viewers and aspire for transformation, positive social change and just peace towards a better humanity. She earned two Masters, a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and a Master of Studio Arts (MSA) from the University of Sydney, and previously a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English Literature. Marcelle works within painting of traditional, light, and digital art, and has exhibited nationally and internationally in Sydney, New York, Paris (Louvre), Venice, London, Florence and Amsterdam. Marcelle is the author of Shifting Waves book that contains her paintings of prominent personalities, women’s multiple roles, landscapes and poetry. She was selected as a Cultural Role Model and received numerous art prizes including an Honorary Presidential Award in 2016, the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honors, and various Honorable Mention Awards of Artistic Excellence in 2021. She has participated in the 21st ‘Biennale of Sydney’ 2018, the ‘XIII Florence Biennale’ 2021, and is a participant in the ‘Modern Art Masters’ 2022, du Louvre Paris. I am a multidisciplinary visual artist, bilingual writer, poet, journalist contributor, and peace Ambassador. Born and raised in Gaza to Palestinian Christian parents from Jaffa who were displaced from their homeland in 1948. In my birthplace I experienced the disaster of wars in my childhood and youth before migrating to Australia. As a teenager, I embarked with my family on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, The Holy Land. At the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of holy icons, its colour, harmony and artistic revelations. The feeling at that moment of spiritual connection remains strong and resides within the core of my being. I started drawing from early childhood and I was constantly responsible for manually producing the school magazine. I received numerous top art prizes by the Department of Education and grew up with my art instilled in me from a very young age. I developed a passion for portraits and figurative art, and I painted people’s portraits from real life. In Australia, I started my journey as an artist and have professionally held numerous national and international solo and group art exhibitions with acclaimed artists in prestigious venues. Besides being a freelance and community visual artist, I worked as a TV foreign correspondent, community radio presenter, and bilingual writer/journalist contributor in the Australian Ethnic Media. I also worked as an administrator in Concord Repatriation General Hospital focusing on war veteran patients, who were affected by World War II, physically,

emotionally and mentally. Working in the Hospital has taught me empathy where I acquired more knowledge and wisdom about humanity, social justice, and calls for ending war and waging peace. My artistic voice is shaped by war crises impacting women and humanity in general. My art combines digital and traditional media, reflecting on the global challenges facing humanity. Through my life journey I gained a true human experience for the realities of human existence including the essence of human life. My impetus desire for creating art becomes compelling to reflect on significant subjects, to narrate stories, stimulate, and inspire viewers for positive change. How would you describe your work to someone seeing it for the first time, in particular your recent work exhibited in the ‘XIII Florence Biennale 2021’? In reference to my participation in the ‘XIII Florence Biennale’ 2021: My work is radiant and significant for it reflects on important humanistic topics and highlights the power of vivid colors that plays a powerful role in the viewers’ soul, memory, emotion and energy. Every single artwork is dramatic and rich with the possibility to evoke feelings of curiosity. The directed perception is human, sensuous, rational, spiritual and eternal. There is a symbolic and philosophical thread in my art that penetrates the human soul. This is where I want my viewers to contemplate the inward visual perceptual communication, to open a channel of conversation and to view the unseen. I reflect on human psychology and perception, conscience, consciousness, subconsciousness, and unconsciousness to see the inner significance of my art with a purpose to find hope towards the reconfiguration of humanity and the reshaping of reality.

With an intuitive, multidisciplinary approach to art, my work is based on an exploratory discovery process, as I choose whether it is traditional or digital, or to combine both. I explore my creativity as an artist vis-à-vis traditional and new media art, discovering quality in using new technologies within contemporary culture. My art is a mirror reflecting my soul and everything related to myself, my thoughts, passions, feelings, identity and values. It depicts my experiences, memories, and connection to the world as a Universal Western-Eastern woman whose goal is to empower and aspire for transformation and positive social change.

EXPLORING THE WORLD OF OPTIMISM, DIGITAL PAINTING, 50CM X 70CM

My paintings conjure realistic topics, and expressive portraits. In Exploring the Joy of Conscience, inspired by the power of having clear human conscience, selfconsciousness and philosophy as a means for knowledge of ourselves, I reflect on the universal issues facing our globe that require distal thinking to review human conscience towards humanity. Like Lotus and Bamboo Resilient Lucid Dreamer highlights the theme of resilience based on the concept of lucid dreaming and human consciousness. In my life journey when I experience swirling in the sphere of infinity, struggling with challenges that send me down an anxious spiral, I become lucid swirling around the globe in an infinite world where I capture life in action and motion. The feeling of patience, self-control and wisdom boost my resilience despite challenges.

In my polyptych of Brilliant Women Faces, I incorporated traditional and digital mediums at once. I combined the images of the portraits of the unsung women that I traditionally hand painted from real life, with the purple poppy landscape of digital media that I created.

BRILLIANT WOMEN FACES, DIGITAL PAINTING, 50CM X 70CM

My painting of Hope for Peace expresses human emotions of longing for peace as an essential part of humanity. It raises my voice to communicate with the world to be heard and better understood. It represents the story of a Palestinian woman who has been experiencing prolonged war with no peace. My work reflects on reconfiguration of experiences and memories rooted in human personal culture and identity. I textualised the image with symbols and digits related to the subject to evoke a new perception. Bridging realism, symbolism and expressionism, I focus on the woman’s facial expression that emphasises the virtuous feelings of profound humility, and spirituality. The unique embroidered crossstitch is a symbol of her cultural heritage and identity. She has the gift of heroic patience that cultivates hope for peace in the hearts of viewers, hoping to end war and to transfer humanity into a better world.

Through my art, I explore the world of knowledge, wisdom and optimism, its beautiful creation, portrayal, and depiction. To me, that is the role of art at this strange time, to make us think and hope, to feel and wonder, to smile with no fear, to imagine and dream, to endure and heal, to reveal the truth, and to explore the invisible. What and which artists have influenced your work? I am influenced by the spiritual transformation in art within socio-political spheres through contemporary artists such as Joseph Beuys, James Turrell, Ai Weiwei, and Vassily Kandinsky. I am also influenced by the thoughts of contemporary philosophers and theorists, such as Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Murray Edelman. If you could collaborate with any artist past or present, who would you select and why?

I would select Joseph Beuys for his artistic influence in reshaping society, and Craig Wylie for his intellectuality and hyperreal portraiture. What can we expect to see from you in the future? I am participating in the VAA Professional Artist Award 2022, London, in Art Eindhoven 2022, Amsterdam, and in the exhibition of ‘Modern Art Masters’ 2022, du Louvre Paris. Beata - a professional musician, pianist and soprano with great passion and love for abstract painting. How would you describe your work being seen for the first time? Each painting is my piece of music, which I compose using a color palette/markers/sprays. What materials do you use to create your art? Acrylic paints, markers, sprays. What is the process of creating your art? The entire composition is first created in my head along with the palette of colors and materials that will be used. Sometimes it takes 1 day and sometimes several months. Very often, creating one painting in my head - suddenly, being e.g. under the influence of nature, a second or third automatically arises ... Which artists have influenced your work? Just like my brother, I am not looking for inspiration in other artists - I want my paintings to be unique both in terms of style and composition. What do you use for inspiration to create your art? Music, emotions of my heart, life experiences and nature.

How do you take and learn from criticism of your work? Each criticism is important, but only if it is substantive. Has social media affected the way you see your work? Social Media is an important tool that helps, but you need to be able to keep the balance between the real and virtual world. Which piece was your favourite to make and why? “Harmony” because what I am looking for in life is harmony. That everything works and harmonizes with each other, just like in a musical piece and in this painting (both in terms of color and composition) - and on the other hand, it is the fact that everyone has a freedom to sees someone else in this portrait. Some see Ludwig van Beethoven, others Elton John, others John Lennon, and still others Elvis Presley. And who has been painted by me, I leave a choice depending on the artistic sensitivity of each person.

What has been your biggest success to date? My greatest

If you could have a conversation with any artist, who would you choose? Due to my connection with the music sector from childhood - it would certainly be J.S.Bach, Fryderyk Chopin and Niccolò Paganini, while from the painting art sector - it would definitely be Gustav Klimt and Vincent van Gogh. How has being a professional pianist inspired and helped your work - This helps because each painting is my certain piece of music that I am presenting. It has its own composition, the melody of brush movement, colors, rhythm and dynamics. Tell us more about BeDe Art Studio – Bede Art Studio is a place where music and art create unity, and the positive emotions conveyed through paintings are to make everyone happy who love any kind of art. Does your work have hidden messages that the viewer may not be aware about – definitely yes, but honestly admit that only individual people in the world have read the message of my paintings correctly. What’s the future for your art? The future is an art that should always connect, not divide - so as I always did, do, I will always try to do my best to make it connect and bring joy.

Do you learn anything once you have completed a piece? Each time I learn something new, not only in terms of painting, but also myself and my interior - breaking my own boundaries. What colours do you like to use? Depending on what I feel in my heart. But if I had to choose, it would definitely be shades of white - purity and simplicity, but also elegance combined with delicacy. However, from the dark ones - it is definitely black due to its sublime simplicity and power.

Hanne Margaretha Biedilæ is a Norwegian visual artist based in Fredrikstad, Norway. Educated in Denmark and Norway. Her works has a wide range and includes ceramic sculptures, installations, paintings on canvas or paper and works on large canvas in mixed media technique. She uses social contexts as inspiration for her works of art and the expression can be both figurative and abstract. Hanne have worked in her own workshop/studio and run different galleries alone and in multiple art collectives since 2006. In my work I interrogates the ways in which we relate to ourselves, to each other, and to nature. My paintings is richly colored, tactile, sensuous with expressive or powerful brushstrokes and I alternate between an abstract and figurative expression, alone or in combination with each other. My ceramics work are often without glaze, minimalistic glazed or with acrylic painting, stains or organic medium. I use different clay and burning temperature in my ceramic works and often coarse cotton canvas or linen canvas when I paint.

I am fascinated by emotions and use my inner voice to uphold a social and universal consciousness. A main concept that I approach in my artworks is the feminine universe. I explore the definition of femininity and the relationship between men and women in society to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. I became acquainted with Edward Munch in primary school and made the draft for a large mural that was painted directly on the wall in one of the school’s corridors. His way of using the colors and brushstrokes has been a great inspiration. Egon Schiele’s work has inspired me to find my own figurative expression and break with classical figurative perception. The first time I was introduced to Marlene Dumas works, I was completely fascinated by her work and her presence in the process. It has inspired me to realise and believe that my own presence and closeness in what I create is more important than others’ perception of what I create. For a decade I worked at an arts and crafts centre and felt more and more the urge to break out. I loved being there, but I wanted to go in a different direction and at the same time get more calm and concentration in my working process. Even though the book is quite old, the Norwegian professor Arne Åsa’s book, Ceramics Method and

Technique helped me to take the step away from the traditional ceramic expression and trust that I could express myself freely and use clay as a material in my artistic expression. I was at an exhibition at the Munch Museum here in Norway with fellow students and saw Marlene Duma’s paintings in real life for the first time, and they touched me in a way I have never felt before in a meeting with a work of art. She is the most significant artist in my own development as an artist. If it had been possible to meet her, talk to her and above all work with her, it would have been the best thing in my artistic journey.

SATISFACTION

My artworks are influenced by the complex relationship between humans and the surrounding world.

In the future I hope to develop further, gain recognition for the work I do. I will be represented at the Luxembourg Art Fair this year, and I hope that my works will continue to be seen in the international art world. I will also be featured in two art books that will be released in Europe this year. As well as participation in international online exhibitions. I hope we have seen the end of the pandemic now and that it will be possible to physically participate in international exhibitions around the world. I use titles in my works that can give the viewer a clue to which thoughts or experience I want to convey.

DUDES WHO DESERVE A GOLDEN BARBIE

1. Dudes who deserve a golden Barbie, 2021. Acrylic and mixed media on canvas 215 x 260 cm Young girls are influenced by the society around them and in today’s society, influencers often help to shape their identity, both positively and negatively. When a Norwegian influencer received the award for being the most conceivable influencer over young girls, we should ask what about all the dudes who continue to look at young girls and women as an object. Older men who click like on young girls bikini pictures on Instagram, at the age of their daughters. The corona pandemic has negatively affected the work on gender equality. Girls and women are more vulnerable to child marriage and violence as a result of the pandemic. One

in three women in the world has been exposed to physical or sexual violence at least once after the age of fifteen. Women’s empowerment is a critical aspect of achieving gender equality. It includes increasing a woman’s sense of selfworth, her decision-making power, her access to opportunities and resources, her power and control over her own life inside and outside the home, and her ability to effect change. My encouragement is that everyone starts in their own home and takes responsibility for how young girls from an early age look at themselves. 2. Don’t let anyone be the judge of your dreams, 2021. Acrylic and fabric on canvas 200x160 cm The work is the representation

of a female subject who at the first glance seems extremely self-confident, the sinuous, soft lines, the proud, confident gaze, certain of its worth. But if you look in the background you will find various figures such as « the bastard on your back», those who point at you and talk behind your back. My intention is to bring the viewer into an atmosphere of contradictions and emotions. I also use different elements like flowers, newspaper clippings in fabric and floating, feathery women who «whispers» reinforcing and uplifting words to give the female subject strength. Encourage others not judging others by their appearance, manners, or dreams they may have in life.

3. Why seek the unattainableJUST BE YOU», 2021. Acrylic and fabric on canvas 90 x 90 cm With this work my intension is to inspire females of all ages and shapes to be satisfied with themselves. By using newspaper clippings in fabric of beautiful models I invite the viewers in to the atmosphere and explain that everyone can feel that they want to be someone else, but why should they. The female character express longings to look as beautiful as the models. Why seek the unattainable when the most important thing is to love your self and be kind to others instead of using time comparing to others.

PLACE OF YOUR DREAMS

take with us. It is not the journey itself that is most important, but how we develop along the way. The large amount of yellow on the left side of the work indicate an arrival point, the destination of the journey that the woman is starting. My intention is to inspire especially young girls and women to dare to dream big, set goals and follow their dreams, by perceive a sense of freedom and independence in the painting.

With the invention of writing, civilizations were able to immortalize their existence, and survive the relentless progression of time, and this makes writing the very essence of human history. Over the ages, writing took on very different graphic forms, and therefore the separation between the visual appearance and the meaning of texts is unconceivable, just as the separation of the body from its soul. The Kufi script is an impeccable instance of the above… It is the oldest calligraphy type of the Arabic script that is a consequent from an old, modified Nabatean

script. The Kufic script was developed around the seventh century CE, where it was exclusively used to copy Al Qur’an Al Kareem by the orders of the Rashidien Caliph, Uthman bin Affan. Square Kufi or the Murabba’ Kufi is a very simplified rectangular style of Kufic, extensively used for tiling. It is very popular these days because its simple lines are very fitting in modern designs and decorations. The Kufi Murabba’ is absolutely straight with no decorative accents or curves. Due to this absolute rigidity, this type of script can be created using square tiles or bricks.

“Moua’ayada Collection by Rita” started as a set of 10 plates with 10 distinctive, yet very similar designs. Each adorn a different welcoming statement used by Arabs on daily basis and on special occasions. Those statement are designed in Square Kufi Style that fills the outer edge of each plate, and printed using luxurious Gold, Rose Gold and Silver ink, on off-white high-quality porcelain, a combination which makes those plates complete, timeless, and elegant. Only 50 pieces of each limited-edition design were ever created. The design process of the plates required an ingenious and innovative technique through which the designer took the

rigidity and straightness of the Square Kufi and reproduced it in a harmoniously balanced poetic composition and a perfectly proportionate rounded look to fit on the circular shape of the plates. A technique that is very time consuming and requires a lot of patience and intricate calculations to get precise dimensions and proportions for the right design. As a Lebanese designer who was raised and lived most of her life in the Gulf, Rita was looking for an identity that is well rooted in the Arab culture, while embracing the contemporary art movements around the world. Rita is a Graphic Design professor at the American University of Kuwait since 2009. Before she came to Kuwait, she was teaching Graphic Design in various universities in Lebanon. She holds an MFA in Graphic Design, and an MA in “Multimedia for Education.” She also worked in the field of Graphic Design in both Lebanon and Saudi Arabia before she started her teaching career. After the huge success of the ceramic plates, Rita started investigating with other media such as wood, clay, cement, plastic, stainless steel, and fabric, using the same concept of the Square Kufi style messages, to create vases, wall clocks, and other product designs. I began art two years ago at the age of 66, some would say I was a late bloomer. I use many alternate styles of art and different mediums, which range from traditional abstract street art along with digital art. I was a freelance photographer for many years. I love to experiment with many styles. My art mixes a certain feeling of fantasy and surrealism, alongside having a certain force to it with strong colour and bold strokes. I began in the most traditional sense using water colour, acrylics and pastels. As I began art, my sense of freedom from the everyday mundane began to emerge. At first I played with colour strokes, the playful aspects of art. Many of my earlier works are symbols of what I love : flowers, sailboats, oceans. As time went on I played harder with colour, the abstract. A friend suggested I experiment with digital art which I did and this proved to me that I love the nuance of digital art. Many of my works are portraiture, figurative and some character with exaggerated expression. I believe my art goes beyond the everyday mundanes, bringing a sense of joy, colour and freedom of movement to the observer. My work has a certain edge to it, perhaps from a life replete with loss and certain tragedy. The feeling of freedom I discovered along the way, in the process of my art from LIFES certain hardships. I believe my art affords the viewer one special moment and transcends the every day ordinary moments. January 2021 I opened my Instagram account and I’ve been getting a lot of recognition with many followers, galleries, book and magazine features, which has been wonderful as a confidence builder. The raven brings upon the feeling of color light flight freedom from the covid world, they go well together. Steve Jensen - My parents are from Norway. My father was a fisherman. My grandfather was a fisherman. Upon the death of both of my parents, I made a boat for their ashes and buried them at sea like a contemporary Viking funeral. I also made a boat for my best friend and my former partner. These deaths were extremely tragic. What I am attempting to do is to take something personally painful and turn it into something beautiful. The ice is melting, our ship is sinking is a metaphor. We, as humans, have abused our environment. If I had inherited my father or grandfathers fishing boat, it would have been easier to make a living as an artist rather than a fisherman, a sad reflection on our marine environment. Journey Through ... (Top Image) - This piece was done while I was facing the beginning stages of the pandemic. The pressures from work, expectations from my parents, and inter-conflicts within myself in achieving my hopes and dreams all add up to this mental exhaustion. The name "Journey Through..." is a symbolic representation of an exploration of who I am and how I can navigate through my circumstances. The frequency emitted by this dragon is circular and visualizes how the Earth is organized. Visualization of chemical reactions, the process of light becoming nutrition, the process of nutrition becoming color, Dragons don’t really exist, but they convey them. Looking at the Earth from the inside, it teaches that nutrients made of light retain the shape of the Earth’s external structure. Tracey Elliott, Opening the windows to our past - I was asked if I’d paint something on a wall in our village club as

a favour. My village has an old pit, now the Lancashire Mining Museum and I thought this would be a topical and nostalgic thing to paint. I got permission to use a photo and decided the best way to show it would be through a window. The response to this painting was amazing and deeply moving for me because I didn’t realise how many people it would touch, or the memories it would evoke. Geraldine Leahy, Expired - My practice is concerned with coastal erosion, specifically with the objects that have

become embedded in the sand following severe weather and the shifting of the terrain. I use found materials from the beach, monoprinting them into the surface of the canvas, thus suggesting the way they are similarly embedded in the sand. Layers of acrylic and gouache are added and then partially washed away, referencing erosive activity. This working process often has incongruous results, with manmade materials adopting strangely organic characteristics. Expired began as a monoprint of found plastic strands which assumed the appearance of dead or dying fish, an ironic confirmation of the impact mankind has had on the coastline. Kris Bowmaster, Ecstacies of Commitment - This painting was created in the middle of the pandemic without any audience in mind, with supplies low, and my income halted. I brought out broken spray can bottles and used a nail to gush the lush colors onto the large canvas. From there I applied thick beautiful smears of pink with a pallet knife inherited from a loved one who recently passed. This initial approach was fast action painting. Gelvin, Origins - During this current climate of war, disease and anxiety about the future, I returned to

Yiju, Paar - Is a work made of gauze. Here gauze cloth soaked in iodine is standing on its own since it was

hardened with glass fiber. Iodine solution that is commonly used as a disinfectant, is a metaphor for blood. Gauze works as a substitute for the skin when covering the wounded skin. Our skin is fragile and constantly exposed to the outside world, wounded and recovers, and continues to be replaced by new cells. Here, the gauze becomes the skin and the wound itself by holding the iodine solution. The glass fiber is placed on gauze fabric and melted, making it harder and allowing it to stand on its own as if it had an exoskeleton. The wound becomes a skeleton, and the wound becomes a body. Anthony Ortiz, The Mark Collection 18 x 24 Canvas Sheet - This work is a story about dealing with struggles,

personal demons and death. It is a personal motif of my own battles and how I have been able to overcome them. The piece is charcoal and pencil markings that have been darkened with Medium Matte Gel over layers with Utrecht and Amsterdam blending earth tones. The technique I used was both brushed and finger. The blue blended terrestrial like balls represent the breaking and separating of my soul from the destruction and depression of my struggles with ADD, Dyslexia and childhood trauma then coming to the surface of my own. buzz of energy, at the end of your tether…hanging by a thread. Yellow and black reflect this: a warning sign, a confrontation. This limited edition linocut print was using two blocks - the yellow / white gradient background and black for the main image. For this layer I arranged Indian ink splashes into the form, then traced and transferred to the lino block for cutting. Each print is hand burnished, this adds to the unique texture in the final image. original oil on canvas. Although the title might seem obvious, it really wasn’t. This piece and I had a love hate relationship, as many conversations about how things would end. Eventually, I got mad at it and switched gears entirely and then finally we had a meeting of the minds. This happens from time to time with the process. Where you need to manifest the results you want and run with it even if it’s not what you had in mind. Damian Manning, Lituus Teardrop - I am new to art. I do not understand how to use an artist’s tools to say what I want to say so I made my own tools from mathematics and computer code. My program constructs abstract mathematical objects and then interprets them as images. A lituus spiral under circular inversion forms the basis for this piece. One end of the spiral disappears to infinity but, under inversion, this is pulled back to zero. The longer the program is run, the closer the curl on the teardrop will come to the zero at the centre of the picture, but it will never reach it. It cannot ever reach it. Jim Bertolacini, Eye of the Beholder - I paint abstracts almost exclusively because I love the feeling of

spontaneous creativity, where I can produce something interesting and imaginative in the moment. I just allow my mood and internal thoughts to develop the imagery as I go. I use abundant color, random brushstrokes, and quirky shapes in my artwork. I named this piece after I finished it since several of the shapes look like eyes and I found the double meaning of the title amusing for a piece of abstract art.
