“Sophisticated Minimalism” Hanacha studio is an international womenswear lable headquartered in Korea. After graduating in London College of Fashion MA course with the title of “Collection of the year in 2012” at V&A museum, she started dedicating to fashion design which manifests the understanding of art reflecting her own respective on artistic language with odd combinations. Obsessed by the essentiality in a sculpt, a painting and a nature, the philosophy of Hanacha studio is developing and refining a design aesthetic that stands by combining contrasts from her research such as ‘simplicity’ and ‘complexity’. To be specific, the symbol of minimal silhouette and fabric manipulation of Hanacha studio represents simplicity and complexity respectively. Twisting both the malleable fabric manipulation with fringes and the rigid-minimal silhouette shows her identity in abstract and figurative forms. With high regards to a craftsmanship in a fabric manipulation, her collections exhibit a sculptural distinction, which can be shown in clearly flowing down dress with a straight line and it infiltrates into her art pieces. Accordingly, it has been become the signature of Hanacha studio and the new way to approach in fashion.

‘Mrs Bauhaus: From Object to Fashion’ EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Hanacha studio’s solo show ‘Mrs Bauhaus: From Object to Fashion’ manifests her own artistic language of fashion design in theoretical and academic ways dealing with relationships between the art and fashion design pieces. By infiltrating fashion to art, this concept enhances the different perspective in fashion design. To be specific, Hanacha studio extracted basic formal elements such as point, line, plane, texture and volume through ‘The process of simplification’ and expresses these elements into objects with some paintings and installations. This simplification process is originated from the Ph.D. dissertation of Hana, Cha which titled ‘Perceived Simplification Process of Bauhaus in Fashion Design’. Briefly explain, this process is the pedagogical way based on the preliminary course at Bauhaus and it is for seeing the theory of formation by simplifying (distilling) a pure form in fashion design. Through this process, the veiled basic figurative elements in each fashion design revealed ‘geometric prefiguration’ and it became ‘object’. Accordingly, this object in the lexical concept implicates the possibility to art. Consequently, Hanacha studio seeks to discern objects as the basic elements from fashion design and make these objects to be art. On top of this, this exploring of figuration through simplifying the form of fashion design can broaden the conception of making in a fresh way.
