The aim is to create opportunities, in order to encourage and support artists to exhibit and promote their work.

SOFIA ANTONIADOU @sofialak7

My name is Sofia Antoniadou. I am 26 years old and I am studying Fine Arts at HfBK Dresden, in the class of Interdisciplinary and Experimental Painting of Christian Sery. My main occupation is oil painting, although I am experimenting with other materials as well, such as concrete sculptures and contemporary embroidery. In my paintings I am working like a dancer, constantly moving all over the canvas, creating abstract shapes, non existing worlds, documenting my own artistic experience. Texture is also a very important characteristic of my paintings, as it reminds me of nature and how I see the world. I think art is the tool to make connections between people and through my artworks I want to evoke people’s feelings, to make and pass on an experience, to make art contagious.

DEEPTIKA BHAGAVATHI

In a universe described by existentialists as absurd, I as an artist intend to carry the quest for the self, sincerity and emotional authenticity into a world of uncertainty, placing great value on discovery, risk taking and adventure into the unknown. My work examines the relationship between essence and existence. It is a radical celebration of individualism. While watching Pierre Alechinsky’s film, Calligraphie Japonaise (1956) I was inspired to learn the ideologies of Bokujinkai, a group who revolutionised avant garde calligraphy in 50s Japan. The idea is that that calligraphy is an expressive art form, free from orthographical restrictions and representing the formless self as the calligrapher perceives it. As a result, I started studying characteristics of the line. My process involves formation of Kanji (Japanese character) with my feet which emancipates from its meaning and moves towards abstraction. I realised that the line or stroke expresses something that only exists in the human imagination and makes them a part of the material world.
