by Christina Mitterhuber
Introduction Christina Mitterhuber was born on 29. December 1975 in Wels, Austria. She lives and works as a painter mainly in 1180 Vienna Pötzleinsdorf, Austria. Where she has her roof terrace studio with a beautiful view overlooking the city of Vienna! www.christinamitterhuber.at Since her early childhood - Christina has painted her first oil painting at the age of twelve years - Mitterhuber has painted over 1000 oil paintings and mixed media on canvas in various sizes, before she held her first exhibition in Vienna in 2018. Mitterhuber is a self taught painter and has studied, worked and lived not just in Europe but also in North America and Australia for some years. She has studied during countless museum and gallery visits around the world. Her favourite painters are the old masters like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffael, Picasso or Monet among others. Some of her favorite museums are "The Met - The Metropolitan Museum of Art" in New York City and "Musée d'Orsay" in Paris. Christina did not show her paintings to the public until 2018. She held her first exhibition in one of the best galleries in Vienna and since then she has participated at more than 50 exhibitions and International Art Fairs in Austria, Italy, Germany and Spain. Looking back, she feels happy about her decision to wait until she felt ready to show her work to the public. Mitterhuber also likes to paint serieses like "WE in red", which consists of 65 paintings so far and was inspired by one of Frederic Chopin's Nocturnes. Other serieses of hers are "Shades of red", "Violett", "Views", "Eisrosen" or "Aqua touch". Christina Mitterhuber has already been selected to the Biennale of Rome 2020, at the International Art Fair in Messina 2019. She will continue to exhibit her paintings in 2020/ 21 by participating at International Art Fairs in Venice, Luxembourg, Cannes, Miami, Innsbruck and NYC...

Which contemporary trends in the art scene are you following and who are your biggest influences?
I really do not follow any art trends. I´m influenced every day by something different, I would not give anything the credit being that important. For me it´s more about the "BIG PICTURE".
What is your favourite art movement up to the 20th Century and how has it affected your work? My favorite art movement up to the 20th Century was the Impressionism. One of my favorite painters is Monet. I love how he used the light. I can´t really say how it has affected my work. I just know it has.
Where do you reside and how would you describe the art scene in your country? I live mostly in Vienna, Austria. There are many different galleries and museums, which is great!
How does your work comment on current social issues? (political, social, health issues etc) It actually does not really. I´m more a free spirit!
Is there any advice you would give to your younger self? Yes, but I would not make it public ;)
What is your favorite part of this job? To paint. Just like that.
How do you choose your themes? Is there a theme you return to regularly? My series "WE in RED" was inspired by a nocturne of Frederic Chopin. I have been painting on my series "WE in RED" since 2018. It consists of 65 paintings so far. Two of my paintings "WE in RED" are now shown at the AD ART SHOW 2021!
How do you define success in an artist’s career? If what you work on makes you happy and not just you but also someone else. If that is the case, I think you are pretty lucky already.
How do you deal with the art scene during/after the Coronavirus pandemic? I work really hard. There has not much else to do during the pandemic anyway.

What are the next steps in your career? This month of May 2021 I have been selected into the AD ART SHOW at the "Oculus" in the Westfield World Trade Center in New York City. This is the most special month for me in my lifetime! In June I am going to participate physically with my series "Violet" at Barcelona Contemporary in the Valid World Hall in Spain and at the Brick Lane Gallery in London. In July I am going to participate physically at Art Innsbruck International Art Fair in Austria. Also physically at a summer exhibition in Innsbruck Austria. I am going to participate physically with 8 of my "WE in RED" paintings in the 1st district in Vienna at a group exhibition for 3 weeks in July and August then. In August I am going to participate in digital form at the Swiss Art Expo in Zurich with Artbox Gallery. In September and October I will be participating physically in Basel and Berlin. I am going to participate physically at the Art Expo New York in November 2021. And at Red Dot Miami Art Fair in 2021.
When people view your artwork what do you want them to experience? I just hope it makes them feel maybe a little happier, if there is anything I wish. It´s just that.
How do you deal with social media? How has social media affected promoting your art? I have started with Virtual and online exhibitions, I would not have known much about that, if I did not have an Instagram account. THANK YOU!
