Leven in de oude stadswijk

Haderslev is a more than 700 year old market town. Today, the roads in Haderslev – from Ribe Landevej in the west across the Square to the harbour near Møllestrømmen – are the same as when the town was founded in the 12th Century. The town is very much characterised by its long history. The old town with the Cathedral and the Square in the centre is – in spite of enormous fires in 1627 and 1759 – well-preserved and blessed with houses that date back to the 16th Century.

You can experience all this on a guided historic walk in the old part of town – or join the Night Watchmen when they make their evening rounds in July and August.

Haderslev is een koopstad die meer dan 700 jaar oud is, en die vroeger een knooppunt was voor de handel tussen het westen en oosten van Denemarken. Goederen werden over land vervoerd vanuit Ribe in het westen en naar het oosten verscheept vanuit de haven van Haderslev. Het huidige wegennet in Haderslev – van Ribe Landevej in het westen, via Torvet naar de haven bij Møllestrømmen – is hetzelfde als toen de stad in de 12e eeuw ontstond. De stad Haderslev wordt duidelijk gekenmerkt door haar lange geschiedenis. De oude stadswijk met de domkerk en het plein in het centrum is, ondanks enorme branden in 1627 en 1759, goed bewaard en bezit huizen die uit de 16e eeuw stammen. U kunt meedoen aan historische wandelingen met gidsen door de oude stadswijk of met de nachtwachters meelopen als ze in juli en augustus hun avondronde door de stad doen.

The history comes to life on a guided walk through the old part of Haderslev. In July and August there are guided walks every Wednesday and Thursday departing from the Cathedral. Group tours can be booked at VisitHaderslev all year round. The watchmen´s round is the term used to describe the walk that the Watchmen used to walk through the streets at night. From around the year 1500 Haderslev and others had watchmen whose job it was to make sure that there was peace and quiet in the dark streets. In 1683 the watchman institution became compulsory in all market towns in Denmark.

Rondleiding en Nachtwachterronde De geschiedenis komt tot leven tijdens een rondleiding met gids door oud-Haderslev. The Watchmen’s Guild in Haderslev can be experienced on their walks from June 26th to August 31st every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9 PM from the Cathedral. Duration: approx. 1 ½ hours.

Alongside the pedestrian street you find Haderslev Cathedral, which is partially built in the 13th Century (the aisle) and partially in the 15th Century (the chancel). The cathedral is an exquisite building and a landmark for Haderslev. On most Fridays throughout the year Schleswig Music Corps parades through town from the barracks to the cathedral where they turn a page in the regiment’s memorial book. In the memorial book the names of all the fallen soldiers from the regiment are listed – from 1864 to those deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan today. During the summer there are concerts in the cathedral every Friday at 4.30 PM and in August the 3 Organ Festival takes place. Haderslev Cathedral is part of the Brich Gothic Route which stretches all the way from Poland through Mecklenburg Vorpommern to Haderslev.

By Møllestrømmen you will find an other of Haderslev’s old churches. The Duke Hans’ Church and Hospital was built by Duke Hans in the 16th Century after the Reformation. The Reformation came to Haderslev earlier than the rest of Scandinavia, 10 years in fact. In 1525 Duke Christian implemented the Reformation in Haderslev which became a significant mark for the town. Today, Haderslev is known as Scandinavia’s Wittenberg.

Aan de loopstraat ligt de domkerk van Haderslev, die deels in de 13e eeuw (het schip) en deels in de 15e eeuw (het koor) is gebouwd, en die een voornaam bouwwerk en herkenningspunt van de stad is. Elke vrijdag houdt het Sleeswijks Muziekcorps een wachtparade van de kazerne door Haderslev naar de domkerk, waar ze in de herdenkingskapel een bladzijde omslaan in het herdenkingsboek van het regiment. Bij Møllestrømmen, waar Haderslev Dam in Haderslev Fjord uitmondt, ligt één van de andere oude kerken van Haderslev. De Hertog Hans kerk en hospitaal werden in de 16e eeuw net na de Reformatie door Hertog Hans gebouwd.

De Reformatie kwam overigens vroeg naar Haderslev. 10 jaar vóór de rest van Scandinavië voerde Hertog Christian in 1525 de Reformatie in Haderslev in. Dit heeft grote invloed op de stad gehad, en daarom wordt Haderslev tegenwoordig het “Wittenberg van Scandinavië” genoemd.

Vojens

Vojens is mainly known for its speedway and for its ice hockey team that has won the national championship several times – and sports take up a lot of time and space in the town. Vojens is home to one of Denmark’s best speedway tracks, go-cart racing, a skating rink, a sports hall and an indoor swimming pool – as well as a new ice stadium from 2011.

Vojens staat vooral bekend om speedway en het ijshockeyteam dat meerdere jaren goud heeft gewonnen tijdens de Deense kampioenschappen. In de stad is sport iets dat op de voorgrond treedt. Hier liggen één van de beste Deense speedwaybanen, een gocartbaan, schaatshal, sporthal en zwemhal, en dit jaar is een geheel nieuw ijsstadion geopend.

In de zwemhal, die het hele jaar is geopend, kan het gezin met volle teugen genieten van het 25 meter bassin, waterglijbanen, warmwaterbassin, spa, dampbad en sauna. En in het winterhalfjaar kan men aan de andere kant van de parkeerplaats naar de schaatshal lopen en op het ijs schaatsen als men na een bezoek aan de zwemhal wat af wil koelen.

In the swimming pool, which is open all year round, the entire family can have a good time. There is a 25 metres pool, water slides, a warm water pool, spa, steam bath and sauna. During the winter you can walk across the parking lot to the skating rink and enjoy some time on the ice if you need to cool down after swimming.

Vojens is een redelijk jonge stad die ontstond rond de spoorweg die in de jaren 1860 werd aangelegd. Maar in feite woonden er in de bronstijd al mensen in het gebied van Vojens. Goed bewaarde grafheuvels, langgraven, de vondst van een huis uit de bronstijd, maar met name de vondst van de jonge Skrydstrup-vrouw, tonen aan dat het gebied lang voor onze tijdrekening werd bewoond.

Vojens is a young town that was established around the railroad in the 1860’s. However, people have lived in the area all the way back to the Bronze Ages. Well-preserved burial mounds, passage graves, the discovery of an old Bronze Age house not to mention the Skrydstrup Woman prove that Vojens has been inhabited long before our time.

Gram

Gram is one of the oldest towns in southern Jutland and was established around the same time as Haderslev. Gram Castle is located here and can be dated back to the 13th Century and has been a power house in the area throughout history.

Since the 17th Century Gram Castle has belonged to the Schack family, but in 2007 the Castle changed owners and since then it has gone through a drastic restoration. Today, the castle is open to the public. The castle park was farmed in the 18th Century and is open to the public all year round from sunrise to sunset.

Gram is ĂŠĂŠn van de oudste plaatsen in Zuid-Jutland, en ontstond ongeveer in dezelfde periode als Haderslev. Hier ligt het kasteel Gram Slot, dat kan worden teruggevoerd naar de 13e eeuw en dat door de tijden heen altijd een machtsfactor is geweest. Gram Slot is sinds de 17e eeuw in handen van het geslacht Schack geweest, maar in 2007 heeft het kasteel een nieuwe eigenaar gekregen en werd het grondig gerestaureerd. Tegenwoordig is het kasteel voor publiek geopend. U kunt er overnachten in een uniek vakantieappartement in de oude woning van de rentmeester.

Gram Slotspark is in de 18e eeuw aangelegd en is het hele jaar van zonsop- tot zonsondergang voor het publiek geopend. Hier kunt u geocachen, oude geneeskundige kruiden vinden en een dennenbos uit 1750 meemaken.

Find a whale in the clay pit map 52/C2

Gram is actually located on an old seabed. In Gram Clay Pit they have discovered lots of fossils – and the skeleton remains of several whales – that bear witness to the fact that the sea stretched far into the land 6 – 10 million years ago. Next to Gram Clay Pit you find the Museum for Geology and Natural History in Southern Jutland – here you can see bones and skeletons from the many sea animals that have been found in the clay pit. In the clay pit you can hunt for fossils yourself – just bring a shovel and screw driver which is the best tool for digging in the hard clay.

Gram ligt eigenlijk op de oude zeebodem. In de kleigroeve Gram Lergrav heeft men vele fossielen gevonden, en skeletten van meerdere walvissen die ervan getuigen dat de zee rond 6-10 mln. jaar geleden ver landinwaarts lag. Bij Gram Lergrav ligt ook het Natuurhistorisch en Paleontologisch Museum van ZuidJutland – hier kunt u de botten en skeletten van de zeedieren bekijken die men in de kleigroeve heeft gevonden. U kunt ook zelf met een emmer en schop op fossielenjacht.

In everyday life, noise has become a keyword and the bells will gradually be banned as instruments for traffic signalling.

Near Hoptrup you find Slivsø which is southern Jutland’s third largest lake. There is a lovely hiking trail around the lake which is home to around 180 different bird species, among them kingfisher and eagle.

Hiking Trails & Nature Spending time in nature is inspirational, calming and beneficial for both body and soul. Haderslev Municipality can offer a wide selection of paths that are accessible to everybody – cyclists, hikers, riders, children, elderly and disabled. There are also areas with shelters, houses for eating your packed lunch, and plenty of benches. The area also hosts various primitive camp sites and accommodation possibilities.

You can also walk along a beautiful path around Vedsted Lake. At the swimming area there are access roads for the disabled, lifts and toilets and changing rooms for the disabled. In the western part of the municipality you find Stensbæk Plantation. Here, you can go for a walk in the area and experience a rich and varied animal life. You can also experience an exciting phenomenon in this area, namely inland dunes. Provisional examinations show that these dunes were formed from around 10.000 – 400 years ago. An inland dune is a bowl shaped hill with sand deposits on the top and sides.

From Haderslev to Vojens you will find the sub glacial stream trench area. This area has various paths that are between 4.5 and 12 kilometres long. In the area you can also visit Haderslev Deer Park where you can see both fallow- and red deer. If you are lucky, you might also see the kingfisher. In Haderslev East and West forests there are several hiking and running paths.

Het is ook mogelijk om bij Hoptrup een wandeling rond het meer Slivsø, het op twee na grootste meer van Zuid-Jutland, te maken. Het meer vormt het leefgebied van ongeveer 180 vogelsoorten, waaronder de ijsvogel en de zeearend.

Wandelroutes en natuur Een verblijf in de natuur is inspirerend, rustgevend en goed voor lichaam en geest.

Ook kunt u een leuke ronde maken rond het meer Vedsted Sø. Bij het strandbad zijn toegangspaden aangelegd voor gehandicapten alsook een handicaplift, een handicaptoilet en omkleedruimtes.

De gemeente Haderslev beschikt over een groot aantal vrij toegankelijke paden voor fietsers, wandelaars, ruiters, kinderen, ouderen en gehandicapten. Ook zijn er plekken om te schuilen, te eten of uit te rusten. In het gebied bevinden zich ook plekken om een tent op te zetten en overnachtingsgelegenheden.

In het westen van de gemeente bevindt zich Stensbæk Plantage. Dit gebied kunt u te voet verkennen om te genieten van de rijke fauna. Hier vindt u ook het bijzonder natuurfenomeen ‘klimper’. Uit voorlopig onderzoek blijkt dat deze tussen ong. 10.000 jaar en 400 jaar geleden zijn ontstaan.

Tussen Haderslev en Vojens loopt het Tunneldal. Hier vindt u verschillende routes variërend van 4,5 tot 12 km. In het Tunneldal ligt ook het hertenpark van Haderslev, waar u damherten en fraaie edelherten kunt zien. Als u geluk hebt, kunt u ook ijsvogels tegenkomen. In de bossen Haderslev Øster- en Vesterskov bevinden zich meerdere wandelen hardlooproutes.

Lakes, ponds, streams, a fiord and the entire coast along the Little Belt. The Haderslev area is rich in water and very popular among anglers from Denmark and abroad.

Meren, plassen, riviertjes, beken, fjord en heel de kust langs de Kleine Belt. De regio Haderslev is echt rijk aan water – en bijzonder geliefd bij sportvissers uit binnen- en buitenland.

The coast offers all-round fishing. You can catch sea trout all year round and during the summer you can catch plenty of garfish – especially at Råde Hoved, Aarøsund and Hejsager Beach. Take the dinghy out on a summer night and head for the deep waters at Aarøsund if you want to catch flatfish.

De kust biedt veelzijdige vismogelijkheden. Hier kunt u het hele jaar zeeforel vangen en ‘s zomers volop geep – met name bij Råde Hoved, Aarøsund en Hejsager Strand. Vaar een zomeravond met een bootje bij Aarøsund het diepe water op als u platvis wilt vangen.

Sea trout, brown trout, graylink, pike, salmon and perch are in their element in the streams around Haderslev. Gram Stream, Gels Stream and Tørning Stream offer angling along a 50 kilometre stretch in incredibly beautiful surroundings.

Zeeforel, beekforel, vlagzalm, snoek, zalm en baars zwemmen lustig in de riviertjes rond Haderslev. Gram Å, Gels Å en Tørring Å bieden op een lengte van 50 kilometer goede vismogelijkheden in een ongelooflijk mooie omgeving.

Aside from the many streams and lakes in the area, you can also find a number of private put and take lakes. Among them is Dyrringkær which is located on the outskirts of Haderslev town, Anholm in the village Fole and Bevtoft Angling Lake in Bevtoft. Here you can catch both rainbow trout and golden trout. You pay by the hour and buying a license at the lake is very easy.

Naast de vele meren, riviertjes en beken vindt u ook een groot aantal particuliere put and take-plassen. Onder andere Dyrringkær aan de rand van de stad Haderslev, Anholm in het dorp Fole en Bevtoft Lystfiskersø in Bevtoft. Hier kunt u regenboog- en goudforel vangen. Naturally, you need a fishing license in order to fish from the shore and in order to fish in lakes, streams and ponds you need an additional fishing card. VisitHaderslev sells the national fishing licenses for the shore and can help you find out where to buy additional fishing cards.

Maritime life Haderslev has three marianas. During the summer loads of sailors visit Aarø, Aarøsund and Haderslev Marina. Haderslev is situated at the end of Haderslev Fjord – right in the centre of Haderslev. Here you can go directly from the quay to the teeming life of the town. The old town lies less than 500 metres from the harbour, and grocery shops are two minutes away. In Aarøsund you can eat at the grill by the harbour, at Aarøsund Seaside Hotel or the restaurant Fiskehuset located by the yacht harbour. On the island Aarø there is a grill by the harbour and if you take a short walk to the town you can find Brummers Café.

Zeilen Haderslev heeft niet minder dan drie jachthavens. Elke zomer bezoeken vele zeilers de jachthavens van Aarø, Aarøsund en Haderslev. De haven van Haderslev ligt aan het einde van Haderslev Fjord – in het centrum van Haderslev. Vanaf de kade betreedt u meteen in het pulserende leven van de stad. De oude stadswijk ligt minder dan 500 meter van de haven, en voor uw dagelijkse levensmiddelen hoeft u maar 2 minuten te lopen. In Aarøsund is het ‘s zomers mogelijk om boodschappen te doen, en u kunt eten in de grillbar aan de haven, in Aarøsund Badehotel of in Fiskerhuset bij de jachthaven. Plenty of water and friendly beaches White beaches stretch along the whole coast towards Little Belt with plenty of opportunities for both bathing and fishing, diving and surfing. Little Belt is part of Denmark’s inner waters so waves are usually not very high and beaches are easy to survey. And there is not a long way from the sand dunes to the water’s edge, so even though you need to be vigilant all the time when you are on a beach, the beaches at Little Belt are some of Denmark’s most safe and child-friendly ones. If you like hunting for fossils, you can go to Flovt and Råde Beach. Here you will find lots of opportunities for coming across fossilised sea urchins, belemnites and other exciting fossils.

De Kleine Belt maakt deel uit van het binnenwater van Denemarken, dus de golven zijn meestal niet zo hoog en de stranden te overzien. De afstand tussen de duinen en het water is niet groot. En ook al moet je altijd opletten als je aan zee bent, de stranden langs de Kleine Belt behoren tot de veiligste en kindvriendelijkste van Denemarken. The Military Road – Hærvejen In the Middle Ages Hærvejen (the military road) was a pilgrimage route leading towards Santiago de Compostela, Trondheim and Rome, but the Reformation marked the end of pilgrimages in Northern Europe. However, today pilgrimages have made a comeback. Hærvejen passes through 26 parishes from Viborg to the German border near Padborg. In 2010 Hærvejen has been named a European Cultural Road by the European Council. From Vejen Municipality the hiking route enters Haderslev Municipality through Stursbøl Plantation. Just south of the plantation you walk past the old Military Road Inn in Stursbøl which is named Café Ellegård today. Here, you will also find one of the three Military road shelters. The hiking route continues further south through the plantation Oksenvad Heath. Here, the hiking route passes Jegerup on the eastside before it enters Vojens. From Vojens the hiking route heads south east towards Tørning Mill. Not far from the mill at Tørning Farm you will find the second of the military road shelters in Haderslev municipality. After Tørning Mill the hiking route heads south towards Vedsted. From Ll. Vedbølvej a small path takes you to Porthøj. Then the route continues along Abkær Bog and Stengel Bog. The route continues to Immervad Stream where travellers since 1776 have been able to pass the stream at Immervad bridge – a bridge that was built using split granite boulders. At the farm Immervad Old Inn you find the third shelter. Just before you reach Hovslund Stationsby you pass by a remarkable rune stone. The inscription is not long – just the name „Hærulf“ - or „Hairulfr“ which has been cut into the stone sometime in the 10th Century. De Heerweg, Hærvejen De Heerweg, Hærvejen, was in de Middeleeuwen een pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de Compostela, Trondheim en Rome. Met de Reformatie in de 16e eeuw hielden de pelgrimstochten in het Noordelijke Europa op. Maar tegenwoordig beleeft de pelgrimstocht een renaissance. De Heerweg passeert ca. 26 parochies, van Viborg naar de Duitse grens bij Padborg. In 2010 is de Heerweg door de Raad van Europa uitgeroepen als Europese cultuurweg. Vanuit de gemeente Vejen loopt de wandelroute naar de gemeente Haderslev via een klein pad door Stursbøl Plantage. Ten zuiden van de plantage passeert u de oude herberg (Hærvejskro) in Stursbøl, die tegenwoordig Café Ellegård wordt genoemd. Hier vindt u ook één van de drie Heerwegherbergen van de gemeente. De wandeltocht loopt in zuidelijke richting langs Prinsens Høj door de plantage Oksenvad Hede, die langs het riviertje Nørre Å loopt. Van daaruit loopt de route langs de oostkant van Jegerup voordat hij in Vojens komt. Vanuit Vojens gaat de route in zuidoostelijke richting naar de molen Tørning Mølle. Niet ver van de molen, bij Tørning Gård, ligt de tweede Heerwegherberg van de gemeente Haderslev. Na Tørning Mølle loopt de route in zuidelijke richting naar Vedsted. De wandelroute passeert meerdere grafheuvels uit de bronstijd en loopt via Vedsted Præstevej naar het meer Vedsted Sø. Van Ll. Vedbølvej loopt een pad naar Pothøj aan de westzijde, waar een goed bewaarde, hoog liggende observatiebunker uit de oorlog ligt. Hierna loopt de route langs de rand van het veengebied Abkær Mose en Stengelmose. De route loopt verder naar Immervad Å, waar de reizigers sinds 1776 het riviertje hebben kunnen oversteken over de brug Immervad bro, een stenen brug die gebouwd is van uitgehakte graniet, „Skovby-stenen“. Bij de boerderij Immervad Gl. Kro ligt de derde Heerwegherberg. Net voordat u de dorp Hovslund Stationsby bereikt, ligt er een opvallende runensteen langs de weg. De inscriptie is kort: alleen de naam „Hærulf“ of „Hairulfr“, dat de runenkerver in de 10e eeuw heeft gekerfd. Bij Visithaderslev kunt u boeken over de Heerweg en de Pelgrimsroute kopen. You can experience the beautiful, 12 kilometres long Haderslev Fiord by boarding the lovely Helene throughout the summer. At noon Helene departs from Haderslev and sails towards Aarø and Aarøsund before returning to Haderslev again. You can stay on the ship throughout the trip or you can disembark on Aarø or in Aarøsund and take the bus back to Haderslev – or how about bringing your bikes on Helene and ride them on the return trip. Pirate trip kort 55/K4

One of the decks on the fiord boat Helene will be turned into a pirate’s paradise. The captain has been replaced by Captain Hook and in order for the children to participate in the treasure hunt on Aarø they have to be approved as pirates. Therefore, the beginning of the trip is spent making hats, eye patches and colouring faces. Additionally, the children will be served pirate sausages just after departure. When the head-pirate has approved the new pirates, they are ready to receive their treasure maps. This is when it gets exciting! Can the children find the treasure on Aarø before Helene returns to Aarøsund and Haderslev? On the return trip the children can enjoy the contents of the treasure chest (if they have found it that is!), and towards the end of the trip all participating children will receive a certificate stating that they are now ”Pirates of Helene”.

Het ene dek van de Helene wordt omgetoverd tot een schitterend piratendek. Kapitein Haak staat aan het roer, en voordat de kinderen op schattenjacht mogen gaan, moeten ze eerst worden goedgekeurd als piraten. Daarom worden tijdens het eerste deel van de tocht hoeden en ooglapjes gemaakt en worden de kinderen geschminkt. Bovendien krijgen de kinderen kort na vertrek worstjes geserveerd. Als de kinderen door de hoofdpiraat zijn goedgekeurd, krijgen ze een schatkaart uitgedeeld. En dan wordt het spannend! Lukt het de kinderen om de schat te vinden op Årø voordat de Helene terugvaart naar Haderslev? Tijdens de terugreis naar Haderslev mogen de kinderen de inhoud van de schatkist verorberen (als ze hem gevonden hebben, tenminste!), en na afloop krijgen alle deelnemende kinderen een diploma uitgereikt.

During the summer of 2013 you can ride the vintage train between Haderslev and Vojens on several occasions.

The vintage train looks like a typical branch line train from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. The carriages are wooden and have open platforms at both ends. They were built in the beginning of the last century. The carriages are pulled by the once very modern diesel locomotives or by one of the small steam locomotives.

In de zomer 2013 in juli en augustus een tocht kunt maken met de historische trein over het spoorwegtraject tussen Vojens en Haderslev De historische trein is een typische boemeltrein uit de jaren 30, 40 of 50. De wagons zijn van hout met open achterbalkons, en ze stammen uit het begin van de vorige eeuw. Ze worden getrokken door de toentertijd moderne diesellocomotieven of een van de kleine stroomlocomotieven.

In old crates you can experience the town’s crafts and trade and the second floor you can study the town’s exceptional architecture history. On the main floor you visit the inhabitants of the house and you can see rare murals from approx. 1680.

The Ehlers Collection of Pottery

Renaissance house from 1577. In Louis Ehlers’ collection of pottery – the largest in northern Europe – you can find an impressive selection of pottery from the years 1400 – 1950, art pottery including works by Bindesbøll and Kähler as well as a large collection of pushpins. The Schleswig Collection of Carts

In the old textile factory you can find Denmark’s largest collection of horse-drawn carriages and a wide selection of vehicles from the 19th Century. On Wednesdays the workshop is staffed and work is done on restorations and reconstructions.

Natural history and palaeontology

Denmark’s largest animal fossils – a collection of fossil whale skeletons that were found in the grey and black clay that dates back 10 millions years in Gram Clay Pit. The museum offers the most unique family activity throughout south Jutland – fossil hunting in the 10 million-year-old sea bed. Explore our history with your children. Become a fossil hunter and take part in the museum’s continuing search of new sea animals from a bygone time. Throughout the year you can participate in trips in the nature or join your children in the winter or autumn activities. Renaissancehuis uit 1580 met drie verdiepingen. In de kelder kunt u de geschiedenis van de stad leren kennen. In oude kisten ziet u nijverheidsproducten en informatie over de handel. Op zolder kunt u de architectuurgeschiedenis van de stad bestuderen. Op de begane grond bent u op bezoek bij de bewoners, en u treft er ook een zeldzaam kalkschilderij uit ong. 1680 aan.

Bezoek het oudste graf van Denemarken, en bekijk van dichtbij skeletten, wapens, goud en zilver, die zijn geofferd aan de goden. Probeer zelf het graf van de vrouw van Skrydstrup op te graven. Ervaar de sfeer in werkplaatsen en vertrekken uit betovergrootmoeders tijd. Tussen het groen vindt u vakwerkhuizen, een molen, een smederij en restanten uit de oudheid. Door het jaar heen is er van alles te beleven voor groot en klein. O.a. cultuurtochten met de archeologen van het museum, lezingen over archeologie, winter- en herfstactiviteiten voor kinderen en iedere woensdagavond in juli amusement, muziek en dans.

Ehlers Lertøjssamling [aardewerkcollectie]

Renaissancehuis uit 1577. De verzameling aardewerk van Louis Ehlers, de grootste van Noord-Europa, bestaat uit een imposante verzameling keramiek uit de periode 1400-1950 en werk van keramische kunstenaars als Bindesbøll en Kähler, alsook een enorme verzameling kopspelden. ’s Zomers worden komedies van Holberg gespeeld op de fraaie binnenplaats.

Natuurhistorie en paleontologie

De grootste dierlijke fossielen van Denemarken, een collectie fossiele walvisskeletten, afkomstig uit de 10 miljoen jaar oude blauwe zeeklei van Gram Lergrav. Het museum biedt de meest bijzondere activiteit voor het hele gezin: fossielenjacht in de 10 miljoen jaar oude zeebodem. Ervaar de geschiedenis van nabij samen met je kinderen. Ga op fossielenjacht en help het museum bij de zoektocht naar nieuwe zeedieren uit een ver verleden. Gedurende het jaar kun je deelnemen aan tochten door de natuur, of samen met je kinderen deelnemen aan winter- en herfstactiviteiten. De groene zone rond het museum en de kleiafzetting vormt een goede plek voor een picknick.

Across from Tørning Mill you can see ruins that are evidence that a large Middle Age castle was located here in the 13th Century – Tørning Castle, which used to be the largest castle in Southern Jutland. Near the ruins there is a beautiful park with many rare trees.

Boven Tørning Mølle ligt een vestingwal die ervan getuigt dat hier in de 13e eeuw een middeleeuwse burcht (Tørning Borg) lag. Dit was ooit de grootste burcht van Zuid-Jutland. Bij de resten van de vestingwal ligt een mooi park met vele oude, zeldzame bomen.

The enormous amounts of water near Tørning Mill could be utilised here. In the 1920’s the mill was the most modern industrial mill in Europe and operated by just a few workers. The mill was operational until 1975 as a grain and flour mill. Today, Tørning Mill produces electricity that is used by the municipality.

Hier kon men de enorme watermassa’s bij Tørning Mølle benutten. De molen was in de jaren 1920 Europa’s modernste industriemolen, die door weinig mensen werd bediend en tot 1975 als koren- en meelmolen werd gebruikt. Tegenwoordig produceert Tørning Mølle elektriciteit die aan het gemeentenet wordt geleverd.

The old barn at the mill has been beautifully restored and today, it is used for many cultural purposes.

At Tørning Mill you can see the machinery and surging water. The mill is open from May 1st to the first Sunday in September from 1 PM – 5 PM. With an appointment groups can visit the mill all year round.

In Tørning Mølle kunt u de mooie machinerie en het bruisende water van heel dichtbij bekijken. De molen is van 1 mei tot de eerste zondag in september van 13 tot 17 uur geopend. Groepen kunnen de molen volgens afspraak het hele jaar bezoeken.

The Christiansdal Hydroelectric Power Plant also produces electricity today and has done so since the beginning of the 20th Century. Before then - from the 18th Century and onwards – the water has been used for industrial purposes in the shape of a linen weaving mill, manufacturing paper and glass spinning works. Christiansdal Hydroelectric Power Plant can be visited all year round by making an appointment in advance.

Ook Christiansdal Waterkrachtcentrale produceert tegenwoordig elektriciteit – en heeft dit sinds het begin van de 20e eeuw gedaan. Voordien (vanaf 1700) heeft men het water gebruikt voor de industrie, bv. linnenweverij, papierfabricage en glasgieterij. Christiansdal Waterkrachtcentrale kan het hele jaar bezocht worden als er een rondeleiding met gids is besteld.

Once there were fifteen windmills in the area around Haderslev. Today, only Sillerup Mill is left – beautifully restored and with new wings. Sillerup Mill was built in 1859. The mill is fully operational – it can grind when the wind blows by using its wings and when there is no wind by using the old engine from 1914. Operation ended in 1983 and today the mill is owned by “The Private Institution Sillerup Mill”. The mill is open on weekends during the summer. On Tuesdays from the end of June to the end of August there are tours of the mill and the children can help bake bread in an old stone oven. www.sillerup-moelle.dk

Ooit stonden er vijftien molens in de omgeving van Haderslev. Nu rest alleen nog Sillerup Mølle – fraai gerestaureerd en met nieuw wieken. Sillerup Mølle dateert uit 1859. De molen is volledig functioneel en kan malen met behulp van de wind die de wieken ronddraait, of bij windstil weer met behulp van de oude motor uit 1914. De molen werd in 1983 uit bedrijf genomen en is tegenwoordig in handen van “De zelfstandige instelling Sillerup Mølle”. De molen is ‘s zomers in de weekenden geopend. With white sandy beaches stretching towards both the north and south the cosy old fishing village Aarøsund is located idyllically at the Little Belt. You can go for a walk at the yacht harbour, make a good deal when the fisher men moor – or enjoy the fresh catch at the restaurant Fiskehuset. You can also experience a true Seaside Hotel atmosphere from the 1930’s at Aarøsund Badehotel which is located with its porch facing the water. The hotel is one of the area’s most popular venues for weddings. In the southern part of Aarøsund you find Gammelbro Camping which is located right on the water – with plenty of opportunities for swimming, fishing, diving and surfing for the entire family.

Every hour the small ferry departs for the island Aarø which is located just a 10-minute trip away in the Litlle Belt. On the island you find Aarø Vinery that grows and produces Danish wine and where you can go for a walk among the vines and experience the taste of genuine Danish wine. Aarø has been inhabited since the Stone Age and the island is home to both long barrows and remnants of a circular Middle Age wall; you can also find many old houses in the town of Aarø. Among them Brummers Gaard which was built in 1866 and today it contains a museum with a unique stone collection with traces from life on the island in Ancient times. It also includes Café Brummer which offers many exciting island products and specialities from southern Jutland.

Aarø is sinds de steentijd bewoond geweest en het eiland bezit zowel langgraven als resten van een ringwal uit de middeleeuwen. Aarø bezit ook vele oude huizen. Onder andere Brummers Gaard, die in 1866 is gebouwd en tegenwoordig onderdak biedt aan Café Brummer, dat vele boeiende producten van het eiland en specialiteiten uit Zuid-Jutland serveert.
