Coyote and the King

A Masquerade Story

Once upon a time

there was an African village

With a fine chief called Msumbe

He called for music from the musicians

They began to play

Suddenly a terrible noise was heard

from outside the court

The chief chose Chlady to go to find the trouble

Chlady found a Coyote. She asked, ‘Why are you making all that noise?’

Coyote said, ‘I’m hungry and I want something to eat!’

Chlady brought Coyote to the King. Coyote asked him:

‘Please can I join the feast?’

Kind King Msumbe agreed

There was a big celebration with music and dancing.

They all lived happily ever after

SEVEN NIGHTS AT THE CIRCUS

SEVEN MASQUERADE CHARACTERS

The Ringmaster The Ringmaster went for a walk, but he hadn’t decided where he was going.

He was thinking a bit, and he went up ‌..

The Snake Charmer The Snake Charmer had the snake round her neck.

She danced to music and waved the fan. The snake liked it.

The Animal Trainer The Animal Trainer saw the elephant fall on the floor, and then the leopard did. She didn’t know why they fell. She helped them. She picked them up. They didn’t need any medical attention: she gave them a little shake and they were OK.

The Dancer The Dancer was stunning and delicate and decadent. She moved gracefully and enchanted the audience.

She danced dances from all around the world: places she had traveled to, places she had seen.

The Clown The Clown was melancholy. He was leaping, he did his act with juggling. His act was received really well, but inside he was terrified by the gaze of the audience. He ran away to sea and lived happily ever after.

The Magician

The Magician planned his magic tricks: the hidden bird, the ‘nothing up his sleeve’ ….

Yes, he did have something up his sleeve!

The Fortune Teller

The Fortune Teller will read your palm and tell you your fortune,

whether love, pity or belief.

The Magician & The Fortune Teller The Magician met the Fortune Teller. She told his fortune; she moved her hands. She spoke one word: ‘Magic!’ He thanked her and left.
