The Middlesex Street Estate is located on Middlesex Street, in the borough of City of London directly on the border of the borough Tower Hamlets and was built from 1965-1975 by the Corporation of London Architect’s Department. The building consists of a twenty-three-storey tower, the Petticoat Tower, and four six-storey buildings for retail, family apartments and bedsitters, arranged around a landscaped podium. talist style, which is why the concrete and brickwork materials, as well as the sharp edges and projections of the balconies occur as design features. The area around Middlesex Street is famous for its markets. The Middlesex Street Market, formerly known as the Petticoat Lane Market, is one of the oldest and most successful markets for fashionable clothing. It is located on Middlesex Street and Wentworth Street and is open every Sunday. The weekly Food
Market is located on Goulston Street and offers a variety of culinary specialties. Unfortunately, today’s Middlesex Street Market is hardly reminiscent of the hustle and bustle of the past. The oversupply of goods in the online shopping has harmed the market and the area and therefore its popularity has suffered.

Five areas are considered in the project: Shop/ market stall: Furnishing and design of one of the retail stores along Middlesex Street and design of an associated market stall to develop a relationship with the store.
Undercroft: The architecture of the brutalist building offers the opportunity to create an atmospheric location at the Undercroft through interesting illumination.
Flat: Redesigning a flat to meet the needs of a modern family or individual for the future. Podium: Redesign of the podium, the inner-city community area to foster the gathering of all peoplefrom the estate.

MIDDLESEX STREET ESTATE MARKET STALL
Light awakens moods, emotions, joy, has an influence on physical and mental well-being and controls the human circadian rhythm. The market stall was designed as a light sculpture, in which light is given a different meaning, is made accessible and perceptible to people.
The health of people is the focus of attention and how intelligent lighting design can improve not only their wellbeing but also the quality of life itself.

MIDDLESEX STREET ESTATE LIGHT RETAIL Especially in the hectic rush of the city most of the people spend a lot of their time indoors. Their apartments are usually kept small, offer little natural light and are often uncomfortable. Therefore, optimal interior lighting is particularly important to create a comfortable atmosphere for the individual - at any time
of the day or year, within their own four walls. The lighting business specialises in the needs of the individual, offering smart solutions for both the home and the office to create optimal lighting - while focusing on the human being

Beyond the circle
The new regulations of a carbon-free city require innovative thinking from lighting designers. The Whole-life-Circle should be taken into account when planning lighting solutions. This also applies to: modular fittings, replacement of only faulty parts, reuse fittings and components, allow recycling, provide offset carbon savings, lighting control, and reduce ligthing for energy saving.

New room comfort through smart room technology combines comfort, security and energy saving. The apartment on the sixth floor is designed for a student. The entire room design is kept open, with a flowing transition from living room to bedroom and kitchen. The flexible and open space offers various options for rearrange-
ment for example to do exercises, invite friends but also to work in the home office . The built-in wardrobe made of recycled wood with integrated light panels offers plenty of space for storage. The light intensity of the panels is automatically adjusted according to the time of day.
