Miguel Souto ı Disé Cabinet
This is a cabinet designed under the briefing of DiSÉ, an Italian company producing refined bespoke furniture and artworks. From the beginning I was interested in the concepts of textures and finishing treatments traditionally applied into wood in the most natural and sustainability possible way. Also I was curious about the idea of using colour for the final design of the door. In my path I found out the traditional japanese technique of Yakisugi o Shou-Sugi-Ban consisting of charred wood to provide a natural treatment of protection against the external atmospheric agents when using wood as external material in fa ades. Traditionally applied in Japan to cedar wood, nowadays it can be used in any kind of wood. My interest was to apply this technique trying to achieve a high quality burning finishing applied into a piece of furniture. Alongside this technique I wanted to introduce an element of contrast in terms of more refined material, colour and quality. I discovered in the antique technique of gold leaf the perfect finish for my door cabinet design. The cabinet is made in ash in all its panels with a joint of tenon and mortise for the top and side panels and a joinery of dovets for the bottom and side panels.
