Welcome to

Sackhouse THE

Our latest programme of events covers such a wide variety it's clear that, although the Maltings is out of action, we are still committed to offering the community some great opportunities and entertainment. The Maltings and Granary theatre closed its door at the end of last year and has since been completely stripped out and returned to its original state. Although our plans are to redevelop, we also want to seize the chance to showcase this beautiful building's heritage whilst we can, and there are events planned using this space - please take the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a look inside. The next step is the archaeological dig which will take place at the end of September, and then if all goes to plan Contractors will be on site from January 2017 for a year and in the spring of 2018 we will open the doors to the new Wells Maltings. All of this progress happens through so much time and commitment from our dedicated small staff team but also our band of invaluable volunteers. We are always looking for new volunteers to either join one of our working groups and have a say on the way the contents of the new building take shape, or to spend a couple of hours working in the Tourist Information Centre. The new building will offer exciting roles for volunteers with heritage tours and archive research. If you would like to get involved even for an hour a month we would love to hear from you, in return we can offer training and volunteer events.
