welcome On the Air

A guide to Park Radio….your local radio station Welcome to the second edition of “On the Air” as we look back at our accomplishments since our launch in late 2017 and look ahead to another year! “On the Air” is your invaluable guide to your local radio station for Diss, Eye and Harleston and the surrounding area in South Norfolk and Mid Suffolk. We have witnessed many Park Radio initiatives and events ranging from becoming the official Diss Railway station adopter, running our very own Coffee Morning in aid of Pancreatic Cancer and trying to help the Diss Children’s Centre to stay open! We launched our “Be Seen, Be Safe” campaign working alongside the South Norfolk Help Hub and the Rotary Club of Diss and District – with over 700 local pupils receiving luminous armbands promoting child safety to and from school. Because of our popularity we have applied to Ofcom to extend our coverage area to many more parts of rural South Norfolk and Mid Suffolk! Another significant milestone has been to devote some broadcasting time to the Year 10 students who attend Archbishop Sancroft High School in Harleston – the 13 week on-air project runs each Saturday from 5-7pm until June and will help to support their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Park Radio has also launched its Listeners Panel which will meet regularly to gain feedback and help shape the sound of our station. We hope you enjoy this edition of “On the Air” and that you will enter our competition to win a meal for two at Momiji Japanese restaurant in Harleston. If you have any comments about our service please feel free to either email me chris@parkradio.co.uk or just pop in! Happy listening!

abou About Us

TRULY LOCAL RADIO Park Radio is your local radio station for Diss, Harleston, Eye and surrounding villages in the Waveney Valley. Park Radio’s aim is to provide an all-day local service every day for the area it covers on the Norfolk and Suffolk border. We are filling a local radio void, with stations in the regional centres of Norwich and Ipswich offering little or no coverage and involvement in our local needs. Park Radio offers a new voice allowing local people to contact, inform and involve the community. It is owned and run by local people on a not-forprofit basis and is operated by volunteers from the coverage area. It is supported by advertising, grants and fundraising. ON AIR 24 HOURS A DAY Park Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day from its specially-built 4

studios at the Diss Youth & Community Centre, in Shelfanger Road, with transmitters at Diss and Harleston. You can hear us on 107.6 FM in the Diss and Eye areas and on 105.2 FM around Harleston. You can also listen to the station on our website, via the “Listen Now” icon in the top right (on desktop) or if you’re listening on your smart phone click the double box icon at the bottom, or by using the Tune-In app. LOCAL NEWS AND INFORMATION – AND GOOD MUSIC Park Radio’s focus is being local, with news, information, features, interviews and discussions about people, issues and events around our area. We offer a free service to any event that raises awareness and fund raising for a charity. The station also features a

ut us sustaining service of great goodlistening, popular music from the last 40 years and more. You can hear a wide range of favourite hits from the 1960s right up to the present day; some that you just won’t hear anywhere else these days! And there’s a variety of specialist music shows in the evenings and at weekends. GET INVOLVED WITH PARK RADIO Part of our remit as a community radio station is to offer training for our volunteer broadcast and support team, so we are always looking for dedicated local people to help us in a number of areas. These include administration and community engagement, as well as programme production, presenting and support.

Customer Testimonials "As a local business we are proud to be associated with Park Radio, its advertising platform has been great for us, I'm also a big fan of Parky Bear!" – Carl Waterfield A. Waterfield and Sons ‘We have been very happy to support a true local advertising medium, with direct access to the local community and will continue to do so do so for many years to come I’m sure.” – John Doe and Sons “Park Radio is on in our business and the go-to station for a great music mix. Due to this, it was easy to decide to advertise with them to expand our customer base in and around Diss”. - Owen Atkinson Ridgeons “Park Radio have been a pleasure to work with. They are efficient, accommodating and are lovely people to deal with”. Rebecca Neale - John Grose “Fredricks Fine Foods commissioned a radio advertisement to be played on Park Radio from November 2017. We can honestly say that we have had many customers coming into the shop saying that they have heard the advert and we definitely feel that it has had a positive effect on our customer base and also on people’s awareness of what we do. Being a small delicatessen situated in the Heritage Triangle in Diss with only a small budget to spend, we have been pleased at how many new customers have come to

find us from the surrounding areas. We would happily recommend using radio advertising to anyone who is considering where they should spend their marketing budgets.” - John Atkinson – Fredricks Fine Foods “Park Radio seems to attract both young and old which, in today’s media world, is a rarity. In an age where communities have to work really hard to express their identity and foster ‘localism’ Park Radio is a much welcomed form of communication. I really hope they will be given a new licence to continue the very good service they have already provided.” - Canon Tony Billett. - Rector of Diss “At The White Hart we feel we have grown up with Chris and the team at Park Radio! The early test broadcasts coincided with our taking over and relaunching of our pub and restaurant. From the start, our objective was local and community marketing, and Park Radio show sponsorship over our first Christmas was a big part of that. 12 months on, the roadshow as part of our Christmas Eve fun day for kids was superb, and across the other month tests we know from our customers how much the station is enjoyed by the local population, who are, of course, our customers. Congratulations to all who got a cracking local radio station off the ground from scratch in our little town.” - White Hart – Roydon
