WELCOME TO
THE FISHER THEATRE Welcome to the Fisher Theatre Summer programme. I’m writing this while the snow sits on the ground from the wintry Siberian and Arctic blast. A huge shock to us all, and it resulted in the theatre not receiving any visitors for 3 days! In compensation, we are mentioned in a recent survey of best places to live in the UK under Bungay’s entry, for supplying…’the artsy social scene..’which‘…revolves round the Fisher Theatre.’ Sunday Times, 18th March. I’m pleased to say that the Exhibition on Screen series has been popular and there are four more films in this programme that I hope you will enjoy, all summery and joyful apart from the Bosch! The Sounds of Simon are a must, to bring on a dreamy mood and remember the 60’s era that started with Woodstock. I’ve had so many adults request Paddington 2 so it’s in and it better be as good as the last one! For the first time we have a Circus Cabaret, and must thank the architect for installing so many RSJs, making this possible, very exciting. Cinema+Create shift outdoors for two sessions of junk modelling, while the big bands come out in force from Jonathan Wyatt to the Super Swing Band. At the end of August, when numbers in the theatre can dwindle as you’re all making the most of being outside, I’ve put in two essential sing-alongs, Mamma Mia and Grease. Please come dressed up as your favourite character and forget all your cares. The first of the Fisher Theatre Artistic Patrons has agreed to come on board, the wonderful and inspiring Luke Wright, who I want to thank immensely. I’m now on the search for Music & Drama Patrons. If you haven’t already signed up for our Friends of the Fisher Theatre membership, please be aware that you get a 10% discount off all shows apart from streams and films, and 10% off all food and drink. The season will be great fun with so much more in the programme than I’ve mentioned, so join us and celebrate some sunshine.

ABOUT US The Fisher Theatre, in Broad Street, Bungay, is one of the oldest provincial theatres in the UK. It is more than just a theatre, it has spaces available to hire for stage shows, events, meetings, conferences, art exhibitions and parties. There are also three separate areas licensed for Weddings and Civil Ceremonies.
F– THEATRE I S H E R–
The Fisher Theatre is a registered not-for-profit charity and receives no on-going revenue funding. The running costs of the building, productions, staffing and maintenance are met solely from income.

Supporting the Fisher Theatre: There are many ways you can support the Fisher Theatre, a not-for-profit Arts Charity. We are always looking for help and support, as we receive no revenue funding, and are only sometimes considered for capital funding for repairs and improvements.
VOLUNTEERING:
Volunteers are active in helping in the following areas of ushering, box office, cafe/bar work,
prepping, cooking, serving, setting-up events, clearing-up after events, hanging exhibitions, publicity, delivering programmes, putting up posters, helping with mail-outs, technical, administration, book-keeping, running promotional stalls, fundraising, building upkeep and improvements. If you are interested, please email: info@fishertheatre.org. As a volunteer at the Fisher Theatre you receive 10% off the cafe/bar, are invited to regular gatherings and free entrance to FT films when not fully booked.
FISHER THEATRE LOTTERY: When you join, you pay £2 a month, which is set up by standing order. Each month two numbers are drawn, each wins £100.
FISHER STARS: This scheme raises funds for the upkeep, repair and maintenance of the furnishings of the building. You can choose to make a £5/£10/£20 donation a month.
MEMBERSHIP: If you support and give time or money to this arts charity, you may want to play a part in the structure that chooses the Trustees that govern the charity. You can become a member, which then gives you information on the health and prospects of the charity at its yearly AGM, and an opportunity to put yourself forward to be voted in as a Trustee, if you have particular skills and experience that the charity is seeking, or to vote for others who stand as Trustees. In this way you become a part of what steers the Fisher Theatre into the future alongside the support that you give the charity as a volunteer, fundraiser or initiative leader.
LEAVING YOUR MARK: To commemorate fond memories, events, people or a personal connection to the Fisher Theatre, Bronze plaques are available which can be purchased and engraved with your chosen words, and placed on the picture rail in the auditorium for posterity.
PATRON SPONSOR: We would like to give our thanks and a warm welcome to Musker McIntyre for being our first Corporate Sponsor, and hope that we have a great year working with and entertaining them at our lovely theatre. Without sponsors like this we would not be able to take our theatre onwards, on its ever-changing journey to providing quality arts for its community.

The largest room within the Theatre offers a maximum seating capacity of 160 and an impressive 240 when all guests/delegates are standing with minimal seating on offer. Unusual for an auditorium are the windows in the roof that flood the space with natural light. These can be blacked out if not required. Added to which are theatre lights that can create added atmosphere to enhance any event from the formality of a conference to an evening party. The floor consists of 60 individual floor panels that can be raised or lowered, to six different heights, allowing you to choose the size of the main stage, seated area, centre stage or even a catwalk. The technical side of the auditorium is controlled from a box above the auditorium at the back, accessed via the gallery. FYTG juniors present this beautiful adaptation of the 1939 film. Cinema+Create present The Jungle Book Sunday 3rd June, 10.30am • £5 The Jungle Book (1967 version) was the 19th Walt Disney film made and the final film produced under the supervision of Walt Disney. It's a lively neo-swing musical, loosely based upon the tales of Rudyard Kipling, and its popularity went unmatched amongst the Disney productions until 1989 when the Little Mermaid was released. Bagheera the Panther finds a baby in the wreck of a boat, deep in the jungle, and takes him to be raised with the wolves. Ten years later, the child has grown into Mowgli. Mowgli, with Bagheera, and later Baloo the bear, by his side has to avoid being found by Shere Khan the tiger, and has to escape all kinds of other colourful characters on his way back to the man village. It's certainly a golden oldie, but the songs themselves could absolutely never get old! Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman. Runtime 76mins - no intervals but audience seated in ambient light with the freedom to move around into the cafe/toilet. Event FX has generously sponsored this screening licence. Cinema+Create at The Fisher Theatre happens one Sunday morning a month from 10.30am. Cinema in the auditorium (film lengths vary) followed by an hour of prepared parent/carer and child craft time. This is a session for around 3-9 year olds, an opportunity for young audiences to get used to being at the cinema. Each film is sponsored by a local business.
Fisher Theatre Cinema presents Paddington 2 Monday 4th June, 7.30pm • £5/£3 Settled in with the Brown family, Paddington the bear is a popular member of the community who spreads joy and marmalade wherever he goes. One fine day, he spots a pop-up book in an antique shop -- the perfect present for his beloved aunt's 100th birthday. EyesWrite presents 4 short plays Thursday 7th June, 7.30pm • £8/£6 EyesWrite is proud to present four new one-act plays by local writers. Two of the plays, “Black Pearl” and “Child Star”, both vastly different in content and style, have been written by Roger Curtis, a longstanding member of The Theatre Royal Writers in Bury St Edmunds. One is a gothic tale while the other deals with the more serious subject of violence and children. “Carnivores”, a gruesome tale, has been written by an up-and-coming writer, David Howgego, and tells us of what happens when a family of chefs sit down to eat. “Still me”, a poignant play that deals with the problems of dementia and is set in a home for the elderly, has been written by local writer Josie Fuller.

Most would consider themselves to be portraitists, landscape and still life painters – and will have rarely exhibited their life studies in public. However, the uniting feature is a desire to accurately observe and render complex forms under light.

July: Bungay Festival Exhibition - The Great Fire of Bungay Private View: Saturday 1st July, 4-6pm Runs until: Thursday 19th July Occurring 330 years ago, the Great Fire was the worst disaster in Bungay's history. Commencing in the Market Place, March winds fanned the flames, causing congested timber and thatched buildings to quickly ignite, destroying most of the town. The exhibition explores what was lost and how the town was handsomely revived.

Stuff of Dreams presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at Bungay Castle
Stuff of Dreams presents its own unique version of William Shakespeare’s beloved romantic comedy. A talented cast of eight will tell the story of the extraordinary events that take place in the city of Athens and the enchanted wood just outside its walls on midsummer night. Witness the feud between Oberon: King of the Fairies and his Queen the stunning Titania. Watch Theseus woo the unforgiving Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. Laugh as Bottom and his friends rehearse their play ‘ready for Great Theseus nuptial day’ and become the victims of Puck’s mischievous pranks. Finally watch the lovers Lysander and Hermia, Helena and Demetrius as their relationships break down, friendships shatter and dreams are broken. Will love conquer all? The only thing that is certain is that ‘…the course of true love never did run smooth.’ Touring to five stunning venues this production promises to delight and enchant you.
FYTG seniors presents The Sneeze and other stories by Anton Chekov Thursday 5th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th July, 7.30pm daily with a matinee at 2pm on Saturday • £8/£5 (U18) Comprising four one-act comic vaudevilles and four short stories adapted for the stage by Michael Frayn, The Sneeze introduces readers to a less familiar selection of work by one of the greatest precursors of modern drama. In these early Chekhov stories, the master genuinely has little on his mind but tickling our funny bones while commenting lightly on the moneyed class versus the servant class, man versus woman, and the comforts and tribulations of theatre-going.
Fisher Theatre Cinema presents Journeys End 12A Monday 9th July, 7.30pm • £5/£3 Powered by memorable performances and Dibb's sobering deconstruction of the individuals who fought for their country, this engrossing film is a hard-nosed, hardhitting centennial tribute to Britain's heroes. Set in a dugout in Aisne in 1918, it is the story of a group of British officers, led by the mentally disintegrating young officer Stanhope, as they await their fate. Directed by Saul Dibb. Runtime: 1h 47 mins
Exhibition on Screen presents Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse Wednesday 11th July, 7.30pm • £13 Claude Monet was an avid horticulturist and arguably the most important painter of gardens in the history of art, but he was not alone. Great artists like Van Gogh, Bonnard, Sorolla, Sargent, Pissarro and Matisse all saw the garden as a powerful subject for their art. These great artists, along with many other famous names, featured in an innovative and extensive exhibition from the Royal Academy of Art, London. From the exhibition walls to the wonder and beauty of artists’ gardens like Giverny and Seebüll, the film takes a magical and widely travelled journey to discover how different contemporaries of Monet built and cultivated modern gardens to explore expressive motifs, abstract colour, decorative design and utopian ideas. Runtime: 1hr 33 mins

Beguiling and mercurial, Kirsty’s music is heavily anchored in the folk tradition with jazz and classical backwaters. But it has a much wider reach, with her influences ranging from Cara Dillon to Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush - emphatic piano-based songs with sharply observed lyrics, packaged with panache in elegant, beautifully balanced settings and delivered in crystal clear, assured vocals. Kirsty has been championed by Show of Hands’ frontman Steve Knightley and she went on to open for Show of Hands at their headline appearance at Sidmouth Folk Week in 2016.
