The Best Artists & Makers celebrating the season

Spring 2023 has felt like an eternity to emerge with even some snow in March! But alas it’s finally here and we’re so glad as it’s one of our favourite times of year, lifting our spirits once again. The season when everything seems to come back to life, buds and blossoms on the trees, pops of colour sprouting up and of course it’s light for that little bit longer which makes all the difference to our days.

This inspirational time is often captured

through all kinds of wonderful art, but we wanted to feature the very best and most unique. From recycled art to textiles, linocut to paintings and sculpture, there’s even an art retreat to enjoy!

These incredible artists and makers’ work is so inspiring and perfect way to add a seasonal touch to any interior. Shop direct and don’t forget to follow their social media page for regular news and updates.

Susan Mulcock 1

Susan is a textile artist working in the medium of handmade felt. She uses her own hand-dyed and spun yarns, wools and silk to lay down fine layers of fibres like pastel brushstrokes to create, when felted, rich blends of colours and textures, further developed and detailed with hand and machine embroidery.

Susan’s most recent work celebrates the arrival of spring with all its life, light and colour into our reawakening woodlands.

Email: susanmjenkins@hotmail.co.uk

Susan Stevens-Jenkins is an artist printmaker who takes inspiration from her surroundings in rural Herefordshire. Her tiny garden studio is where she produces her prints by hand in small, limited editions.

Current work uses collagraph printmaking to document the gradual awakening of the garden after the muted tones of winter. A single bloom may be selected and displayed on the kitchen table in a cherished pot: the curve of a petal, arch of a stem or curl of a leaf echoing the line of a treasured jug or makeshift vase. And the resident robin sings his heart out while defending his territory atop the hedge where the primroses are waiting to appear.

Sylvie Millen

Sylvie Millen is a self-taught mixed media textile artist, drawing upon a range of materials that fit within many themes. Working intuitively with an experimental approach, allowing the properties of the fabric and fibres to resonate with her emotions, Sylvie produces ethereal organic stitched fibre sculptures.

Living in a small hamlet situated in North Worcestershire, surrounded by beautiful historic countryside, Sylvie loves to walk and explore, taking time to observe close up, nature’s intricate patterns, forms and colours.

“I’m passionate about pushing traditional machine stitching to a different level, taking a no rules approach to emulating nature, working with any material that “speaks to me,” both natural plant fibres, dried seed heads and recycled fibres.”

Sylvie has exhibited her stitched art in Rome and London and is currently working on a group exhibition for a National Trust property. She will also be taking part in the Worcestershire open studios in the summer, based in her garden studio. Get in touch to discuss booking any talks or workshops.

“The Day We Went To…”

Solo exhibition by

5th May to 17th June

Jill Jones, a talented contemporary artist, is bringing a new solo exhibition to Caernarfon inspired by the joyous memories of summer holidays.

The exhibition, “The Day We Went To…” features vibrant paintings that capture the essence of summer. It celebrates everything Jill loves - coastal living, the sea, the thrill of going to the beach, salty smells in the air and an endless supply of sky!

Jill’s paintings reflect happy summer day trips and the magical times we’ve all had making memories on a special day out, that unplanned excursion or a long-awaited trip. Whether it's catching sight of a dolphin, spotting a fishing boat tucked away in the shade of a boatshed, or the simple joys of an ice cream on the beach, each piece invites viewers to relive their own joyful experiences.

Jill says, “The Day We Went To...” exemplifies all our happy joys in the simplest of things, even in the rain. I’ve used wonderfully warm and fuzzy memories as my inspiration; a cycle or car ride through flower-laden, insect-buzzed, countryside hedgerows or remembering the booming swell of the restless ocean!"

Overall, Jill’s exhibition is a delightful celebration of the joys of summertime. Through her art, she transports viewers to a place of warmth and happiness, where memories of sun-kissed skin, salty sea air, and carefree days reign supreme.

“The Day We Went To...”by Jill Jones will be at Life: Full Colour from 5th May to 17th June. The gallery is located at 23-25 Hole in the Wall Street, Caernarfon, and it is open every Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm.

The exhibition features 30 paintings mostly in acrylics, with just one or two in oils. It ranges from small paintings you can enjoy either singularly or as a collection to large statement pieces that will bring you in.

If you have any questions or would like to reserve a painting, call the gallery on 01286 678 211 or email hello@lifefullcolour.com. All work is available for sale and can be purchased using CollectorPlan’s 0% finance.

Time and Tide by Jane Paice

SOLO EXHIBITION

“In the pale reflections, just out of reach, I feel your soul.”

“Time and Tide” is a collection of work by Jane Paice inspired by the magnificence of the sea surrounding the Isle of Anglesey. In this collection, Jane explores the relentless energy and dynamic nature of the sea juxtaposed with the fleeting passage of our time on earth and the echoes and footprints we leave behind.
