DIAMOND BENEFAC TOR

Making our community a better place Artists and performers can spark our imaginations and help us see the world in a different way. FROM THE CEO Connecting people to the arts is what ArtsWestchester does. We do this for kids, teens, seniors, residents and visitors. We do this in schools, housing projects, downtowns, festivals, senior centers and mental health facilities. Sometimes we connect through an artist residency; sometimes it’s through a grant we’ve awarded to an arts group or an artist; sometimes it’s an ArtsMobile visit or a public art project. We believe art is a great way to tap into the vibrancy and soul of a neighborhood. It’s a way to imagine the world in new ways.

Janet T. Langsam (photo credit: Leslye Smith)

Tonight’s gala celebrates an individual who believes as we do that art creates extraordinary spaces. Developer/Architect/Entrepreneur Martin Ginsburg has spent his professional career creating unique properties with artful spaces. We share his belief that public art makes public spaces more endearing and engaging. Many of you here tonight have experienced it. You can be walking along, thinking, or maybe not. Suddenly, unexpectedly, a work of art appears before you. You are open to it. It has no pretentions. It is not precious. It’s just there for you to appreciate, or ponder, or not. It’s democratic. It’s available. No admission charge required. You have a choice. See it. Embrace it. Or, walk on by. Chances are that whatever you do, you will remember it. Public art challenges us. It turns a chance encounter into an experience. It creates a sense of place. Above all, it is memorable.

I thank you for supporting the vital role the arts play in Westchester’s communities. And, I thank you for joining me to honor Martin Ginsburg, a man who lives and breathes to create special living places infused with art.

– Janet T. Langsam

CEO, ArtsWestchester

FROM THE PRESIDENT There are so many reasons to love the arts. The arts inspire creative thinking, connect people and ideas, stimulate conversation, boost the economy and raise the quality of life, and bring families together through innovative programs and vibrant, meaningful exhibits. Over the past year, ArtsWestchester has hit the road with its new ArtsMobile, bringing hands-on, free art activities into neighborhoods, housing projects, city festivals, senior centers and more. People of all ages have enjoyed creative projects by our ArtsMobile artists at a diverse calendar of community events throughout Westchester, which was all made possible with support from White Plains Hospital and Con Edison.

Michael Minihan (photo credit: Leslye Smith)

Looking to the year ahead, we’re involved in more conversations about public art than ever before and we look forward to being a partner in projects that bring public art to more of our community in streetscapes, downtowns and signature locations.

Please join me in saluting Martin Ginsburg for his vision and commitment to public art. His contributions to the Westchester arts (and to ArtsWestchester) truly set an example for us as to what it means to be a leader and patron in the ever-growing arts epicenter that is Westchester County. Following his lead, through our support of ArtsWestchester, we can make Westchester an even more vibrant place to live and work!

Celebrating innovation A WORD FROM OUR 2019 GALA CHAIR Louis P. Gallo, Gala Chair

Senior Vice President of Wells Fargo “I am honored to serve as this year’s Gala Dinner Chair. As a Westchester resident, I have always admired the way ArtsWestchester unites people around a common passion and respect for art, music and culture. ArtsWestchester has an impressive national reputation for supporting innovative cultural programs and providing vital arts programming to Westchester residents.

Wells Fargo is proud to support ArtsWestchester in its mission to make the arts accessible to people of all ages, inspiring creativity and meaningful conversation. We understand that the arts are essential in educating the creative thinkers of tomorrow.

Louis P. Gallo, Gala Chair

Senior Vice President of Wells Fargo

Thank you for joining me tonight to recognize real estate developer and architect Martin Ginsburg, who is well-known for incorporating the arts into all the unique environments he creates. A true innovator, Martin plans his projects to include monumental sculpture, sculpture trails and artwork within his buildings’ common areas, integrating the arts into the built environment.”

ARTSWESTCHESTER SALUTES

Martin Ginsburg Founder & Principal, Ginsburg Development Companies, LLC

In n ovator Award ArtsWestchester’s Innovator Award recognizes a visionary leader who seizes the power of an idea to make the world a better place. Real estate developer and architect, Ginsburg is a true visionary who believes in the power of art to enhance living spaces. He has a passion for incorporating the arts into all of his Ginsburg Development Company’s projects, so much so that most recently, he has enticed a group of 36 artists to put forth innovative proposals for a sculpture commission for his City Square Development in White Plains. You’ll find him often, pencil in hand, sketching the perfect angle for a sculpture for here or there. He has always believed artwork should be part of the built environment and for that we applaud him.

I look to create a truly special place at every building and community that GDC develops. That means attention to detail in architecture, creating beautiful landscaping and installing signature public artworks that greatly enhance the sense of place.

ARTSWESTCHESTER:

Who We Are ArtsWestchester is your connection to the arts Through the years, ArtsWestchester has become one of the most important funders in Westchester County for cultural institutions, as well as for emerging arts organizations, community-based arts groups and artists. It is the County’s designated agency, responsible for the distribution of funds that are allocated for the arts. ArtsWestchester’s mission is to provide leadership, vision and support in order to ensure the availability, accessibility and diversity of the arts. ArtsWestchester provides programs and services that enrich the lives of everyone in Westchester County. ArtsWestchester helps fund concerts, exhibitions and plays through grants; brings artists into schools and community centers; advocates PAGE 10

for the arts; and builds audiences through diverse marketing initiatives. In 1998, ArtsWestchester acquired and renovated a nine-story neoclassical bank building at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, NY. The historic building in the heart of the downtown not only serves as ArtsWestchester’s headquarters, but also as a cultural resource for artists, cultural organizations and the entire Westchester community. Today, the arts are thriving in Westchester largely because ArtsWestchester, in partnership with Westchester County Government, has put the arts on the public agenda, investing more than $40 million over the years in arts and culture in the county.

Our vision is for a Westchester in which every man, woman and child can explore his or her creative impulses; where the arts are accessible to every sector of society and are an educational priority in our schools; where opportunities for artists are plentiful; where public art is fundamental to the landscape and cityscape; and where a new generation can use the arts as a window to the world.

PAGE 11

Our Programs Chances are, if you or your children have gone to a local exhibition or performance, or have participated in an arts class or workshop in Westchester, your lives have been touched by ArtsWestchester’s programs and services. “Lunar New Year Festival” performance in ArtsWestchester’s gallery (photo credit: Margaret Fox)
