Master Artist Chikara Komura “Crape Myrtle in the Sea” 2022, Photography, 234” x 175”CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?
“My artistic style combines floristry and marine fantasy. I capture the essence of flowers and immerse them in an imaginative underwater world, reflecting the resilience of oceanic flora. This fusion evokes the ancient origins of marine life and the nurturing sea of the womb. The resulting imagery portrays flowers thriving in a dreamlike underwater world, showcasing nature’s enduring beauty.”
WHAT IS YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
“I begin by scouting and photographing flowers during the day to assess their potential. As night falls, I transform these daytime captures into a visual narrative in an imaginary underwater realm. I take multiple shots to perfect the illusion of blooms thriving underwater, bringing my aquatic garden to life.”
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOU WANTED TO BE AN ARTIST?
“ I discovered my artistic calling during college, sparked by a personal experience. A forbidden romance inspired me to capture emotions and stories through art. This desire to encapsulate feelings in art has been my guiding force ever since.”
WHAT MESSAGE DOES YOUR WORK TRANSMIT TO YOUR AUDIENCE?
“Through my work, I aim to capture the beauty of flowers submerged in an imaginary sea, evoking a sense of fantasy and nostalgia. This artistic metaphor reflects our collective memory of an ancient aquatic origin and celebrates life’s cyclical nature and surreal beauty.”
HAS ANY PART OF YOUR STORY INFLUENCED WHAT YOU DO NOW?
“Absolutely. The thematic elements
