“Der Steinmetz”

Josef Weidner, based in Germany, is renowned for his bold brushstrokes, textures, and dynamic compositions that create a sense of motion and depth in his works. His art is a testament to the power of the subconscious, drawing inspiration from poetry, nature, and his surroundings. Each piece invites the viewer on an imaginary journey, exploring the mysterious and unfathomable landscapes and figures that spring from his mind.

Weidner's work is imbued with a sense of ethereal beauty, depicting scenes that seem to come alive with every glance. His use of various techniques, including intricate brushstrokes and textured layers, adds a structural element that intensifies the visual appeal of his paintings. This combination of movement and texture breathes life into his works, captivating viewers and evoking deep emotional responses.

A significant aspect of Weidner's art is his ability to confront stark global realities with haunting beauty. His series on "The Boat People" poignantly captures the plight of refugees, highlighting the struggles and the lack of compassion from powerful nations. Through his canvases, Weidner creates arenas where the fight for democracy and human rights unfolds, inviting viewers to engage with these pressing issues on a personal level.

In his vibrant and complex pieces, each brushstroke tells a story of resilience amidst socio-political turmoil. Weidner's approach to art is not just about the creative process but also about sparking conversations with his audience. He dares to reflect society's stark truths, making his art a bridge between the observer and the observed, the global and the personal, the aesthetic and the humanitarian.

Josef Weidner's journey as an artist is deeply rooted in his life experiences and the profound emotional connections he forms with his subjects. His works are an ode to those navigating the treacherous waters of change, seeking shores of hope. Through his art, Weidner becomes a compassionate witness to history, chronicling the human condition one canvas at a time.

Weidner’s artistic philosophy is beautifully encapsulated in his favorite quote by Wilhelm Heinse: "Wo große Kräfte reifen und in ihrer höchsten Gewalt sich äußern, da sind die Zeiten der Kunst." This translates to "Where great forces mature and express themselves in their highest power, there are the times of art." This quote resonates deeply with Weidner, embodying his inner artistic drive, the

investment of effort, and the creative energy unleashed in the process.

Josef Weidner’s art is a symphony of movement and emotion, a reflection of his profound connection to the world around him and the subconscious realms within. His paintings are not mere visuals; they are dynamic, living entities that engage and resonate with the viewer on multiple levels. Through his skillful use of brushstrokes, textures, and colors, Weidner creates a visual language that transcends the ordinary, inviting us into a world where movement and stillness coexist in perfect harmony.

His works are a celebration of the human spirit, capturing moments of beauty and struggle, hope and despair. In the series “The Boat People,” Weidner’s art becomes a powerful commentary on the plight of refugees, unwelcomed by nations that wield power yet fail to extend compassion. These paintings are not just depictions but poignant narratives that confront us with the harsh realities of our time, urging us to reflect and empathize.

Weidner’s approach to art is deeply rooted in his life experiences and the emotional connections he forms with his subjects. His creative process is intuitive, allowing the artwork to evolve naturally from his interactions with the canvas. This method results in pieces that are rich in texture and depth, each one telling a unique story that invites the viewer to explore and interpret.

Based in Germany, Weidner draws inspiration from various sources, including poetry, nature, and his surroundings.

In his vibrant and texturally complex pieces, every brushstroke narrates a story of resilience against the backdrop of socio-political turmoil. Weidner’s art is as much about the conversation it sparks with the audience as it is about the creative process. He dares to reflect society’s stark truths, making his art a bridge between the observer and the observed, the global and the personal, the aesthetic and the humanitarian.

Weidner’s works are an ode to those who navigate the treacherous waters of change, seeking shores of hope. His art becomes a compassionate witness to history, chronicling the human condition one canvas at a time. This profound connection is where Weidner’s art truly becomes a bridge between the aesthetic and the humanitarian, resonating deeply with all who encounter it.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK FOR US?

My inspiration develops from my imagination, the perceived world of poetry, nature, or simply my surroundings. My works are predominantly abstract and surreal, depicting visionary worlds, bizarre or unfathomable figures, and landscapes that emerge from the subconscious, allowing for various interpretations. Sometimes, they also feature geometric or organic shapes, lines, and colors. Over time, I have developed a very personal style. My abstract works are partially painted in oil or acrylic. The motifs are primarily impressions from the environment and nature, which later intuitively transform into fantasy creations.

WHO ARE YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

The exhibited artworks are stimulating, painterly impressions with a particular dynamic and an open development process inherent to them. For me, artistic inspiration, expression, and free creation are essential. Often, multiple materials flow into a total work of art. The overall composition is paramount. They invite the viewer on a journey through their imagination, offering entirely new interpretive possibilities for the images.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?

My abstract works are partially painted in oil or acrylic. The motifs are mostly impressions from the environment and nature, which later intuitively transform into fantasy creations. The artwork itself develops from a painting process. First, the mental framework and construction, the division of the canvas, are roughly established. During the intimate painting process, the total work of art emerges and is gradually refined.
